You can use this: 36hp 236spa 236 speed or 240 spa 240 speed. None of these are wrong.
It deppends of you want max power or a little bulk.
What we're trying to say is that if you still want 19 Spe and 18 SpA stats on your Timid Misdreavus (which you almost always do) along WITH Hidden Power Fighting, you need to place an extra 4 EVs into SpA and Spe, ie 240 EVs instead of 236 EVs, order to get 19 Spe and 18 SpA. Otherwise, if you only place 236 EVs in SpA and Spe when you have Hidden Power Fighting, or any other Hidden Power that lowers your IVs in SpA or Spe from 31 to 30, you would end up with only 18 Spe and 17 SpA. So the spreads that I quoted from you can be wrong, depending if you are using Hidden Power Fighting (or a Hidden Power that lowers SpA or Spe) or if you are not. You can look at your stat changes when changing EVs and IVs on teambuilder in Pokemon Showdown, it is important to double check your stats to make sure you are using them efficiently.

Therefore, if you use 240 EVs in both SpA and Spe (if you have Hidden Power Fighting), then you would not have 36 EVs leftover that you could allocate into either HP (or Def) to raise it a stat point, but rather you would only have an unusable 28 EVs leftover that don't raise any stat points.

Also, mysterious Vincent, there's no need to be rude, just explain why you think they're wrong, etc.

Misdreavus would prefer to have those 36 evs in defense to raise it's physical bulk, so 36 Def / 236 SAtk / 236 Spe is fine if you don't run HP Fighting
Actually, from my experience and doing some mild damage calculations, I find that the 36 EVs are better utilized in HP. Often even if your main desire is to boost Misdreavus' "physical bulk" for Eviolite Misdreavus, at the very least. The jump from 12 Def to 13 Def, especially with Eviolite, tends to not improve Misdreavus' defensive survivability more so than 22 HP to 23 HP does. Here are some significant calculations to support Eviolite Misdreavus with 36 HP:

However, I will agree that on non-Eviolite Misdreavus it is a perfectly valid choice, especially Berry Juice Misdreavus, it's just arguably not the best one. For instance, with 36 EVs in Def on Berry Juice Misdreavus you go from this (no def EVs):

But, that isn't exactly the best example of the leftover EVs in Def being better than HP for non-Eviolite Misdreavus (priority attacks often hit for a damage point less, but you also have 1 less HP and you might not be getting hit by that many priority attacks, especially since you're immune to Fake Out). And there's also the thing where the HP point also helps you survive special attacks, as well physical attacks.

With that said, I'd say the leftover EVs being put in HP, assuming you don't have Hidden Power Fighting, is the best choice for virtually all sets that have those leftover EVs. But, I implore you to provide significant enough reasons, or damage calculations, as to why the main option for the extra 36 EVs should be put into Def, as opposed to HP.
