Hello and welcome to the fifth iteration of the ZUPL! This thread is for the signups for those who wish to manage in the tour. This year we're looking at 8 teams, so 8 manager duos! Managers are expected to have past ZUPL experience, managed in a Smogon team tournament before, and/or be a major contributor to ZU. Additionally, keeping a team name from last year is highly encouraged, but not a requirement! To manage, please compile the following form:

When posting, please make it clear if you want to continue a existing team, make a new one, and what retention pool you want to inherit if you're making a new one (click here for the ZUPL IV spreadsheet, to see last year's teams and retain pools)

Managers can purchase themselves for the price of 12.5k + 1k for (positive) differential in ZUPL IV. Managers are also expected to be active in their teamchat and respond quickly with substitutes or lineups. Player retains will be the player's price last year + 3k (minimum 10k, + 3k markup for consecutive retains). Retains are limited to two per team.

Signups will close on Sunday, June 25th, with player signups going off shortly after with the chosen format and managers.

I decided to join my nemesis after a 0-8 last year...
afo is a super strong player (goat SM and ORAS) who is familiar with CG. He has participated in many previous ZUPLs even reaching finals as manager last year. In my case, I have participated in 3/4 ZUPLs winning as a player in 2021 and reaching poffs last year as a manager. I got experience in several gens (SS, SM, BW mainly) and as well as a manager (ZUPL, NFEPL, UMPL).

(Prior experience + any other additional details): I am undefeated in ORAS PU in PUPL (1-0 in 2016), I made finals of the DPP PU Cup, in 2021, I won the most recent SM PU Cup and I went 6-3 in SCL in SS PU, proving my competence across various generations of PU. Dave is one of the greatest managers in Smogon's history, accumulating six official team tournament trophies throughout his career. Why would you be a good manager? (Prior experience + any other additional details):
High level knowledge of the playerbase. I was TPPs main ZUPL Talk partner last year because I guess no one else cared about his success. I was able to engage with him at a high level.

Larry and I are currently managing 11 active teams. Of the 5 PLs we've managed since January that's ended, we made two finals and two semi finals. We are also currently in playoffs for two other active PLs that's on going. We take this very seriously and are excited to participate this year.

As an aside, I think all active hosts can vouch that we are very easy to get along with and abide by their rules and expectations in a timely manner.

I also endorse and acknowledge Tuthur and their desire to be like many of the franchises they manage. Hopefully that motivation they've gained from the Dave's allows them to achieve beyond an 8th place finish this year should they be selected.

Why would you be a good manager? I've managed a ton of tours over the past year, both on forums and over Discord. These include DPPPL, (finals both times trophy this year) ADVPL twice, (semis) RCOP twice, (finals last year) ROA Olympics (4th), PPL twice and BWPL. All of these tours have given me connections with a ton of players and a great knowledge of how to draft winning teams. Monai is a standout ZU community member who's on the BW council, won the most recent ZU Classic, played this tour very well last year, and has good SS ZU results on top of being an overall enthusiastic and great player in any tier. I think we bring a great balance of managing skill and prep throughout old gens and current gens. I know there's players with more ZU managing experience than us but with a new generation this seemed like a good time for us to branch out and have a fun tour.

You already know me. 2 time ZUPL champ, this will be my 5th time as a returning manager. There's nothing you don't already know there, but I want to talk about my assistant manager, BaitWiz. It's genuinely exciting to have the opportunity to work with BaitWIz this year. It's well documented that he's one of the primary reasons behind the Butterfree's successes, stepping up and helping across all fronts, especially in old gens where they were lacking active support, in what will be up there with Kay's ZUPL II performance as the two greatest carries in ZUPL history. His commitment, activity, passion, truthfulness, and most importantly loyalty, is something that every assistant manager should strive for, and something that I think is lacking throughout this community and many assistant managers, even if they have consecutive ZUPL victories. I'm really excited for a fun and focused season.

Prior Experience:

I managed in ZU Olympiad, where my scouting/teambuilding support across generations guided The Haze to the playoffs. I backed that up by placing 7th in total points for ZU Classic to qualify for playoffs. I’m a key member of DPP ZU Council, and I would've won ORAS Cup if I had signed up -- trust.

Sleid is a strong player/builder with an enthusiasm for SM/SS/SV and a good understanding of DPP/BW/ORAS from his supporting role(s) in Olympiad. He’s recently hosted ZU No Johns and ZU Open, which undoubtedly heightened his awareness of SV metagame trends and ZU player profiles. This is proven by his recent qualification for ZULT after sporting the strongest GXE in the cycle.

Sleid and I are both level-headed dedicated ZU staff members. While we may lack a history in ZUPL due to untimely join dates, we have both since ingrained ourselves into the community. I’ll also be designing our logo, so you know it’ll look sick.
