Wingull

QC Approved [2/2]
(Darkamber8828, Skynet)
GP Approved [2/2] (Natgeo, elDino)

[Overview]

Wingull has a rather unique typing in Water / Flying, which is shared by only a select few Pokemon. This gives Wingull a rather interesting pool of STAB moves to choose from, such as Scald and Hurricane, as well as a good defensive typing bar a glaring weakness to Electric-type attacks. With an acceptable Special Attack stat and a blazing 19 Speed stat, Wingull has sweeping capabilities that are often completely overlooked.

[SET]
name: Life Orb
move 1: Scald
move 2: Ice Beam / Hidden Power Grass
move 3: Rain Dance / U-turn
move 4: Hurricane / Air Slash
item: Life Orb
ability: Keen Eye
nature: Timid / Naive
evs: 36 HP / 236 SpA / 236 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set makes great use of Wingull's top notch Speed stat and good movepool. Scald is Wingull's primary STAB move;it has a respectable base power and may even leave the opponent's Pokemon with a burn! Ice Beam pairs excellently with Scald and the moves have good coverage together. Rain Dance is recommended, and it works especially well when paired with Hurricane and Scald. A Timid nature and the EV spread provided ensures Wingull is as fast and hard hitting as possible, while a Life Orb helps back up Wingull's average Special Attack stat.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Hidden Power Grass can help Wingull deal with bulky Water-type Pokemon easier. If you're not favoring giving up a turn for Rain Dance, then U-turn, along with a Naive nature over Timid, may be the better option for you, though it's not advised to use Hurricane without rain support. If you do choose to forgo Rain Dance, Air Slash is a more reliable alternative to Hurricane. An Eviolite can be used over a Life Orb to make Wingull a more durable sweeper, but the lack of power is evident. An Electric- or Grass-type Pokemon to soften up bulky Water-type Pokemon will ease Wingull's job of sweeping through the opponent's team. Elekid and Magnemite pair well with Wingull as they take the Electric-type attacks it dreads with ease, and can threaten the bulky Water-type Pokemon that may stop Wingull's sweep. A user of Rapid Spin will help Wingull stay healthy throughout the duration of the match.

[Other Options]

A Choice Specs set is certainly viable for our speedy little bird friend. Brine is an interesting option as it doubles in power if Wingull's foe is below half it's HP, though it's not as reliable as Scald. Hidden Power Fire can be used if Wingull isn't running the Rain Dance moveset, as it allows Wingull to pierce through weakened Ferroseed. Hidden Power Ground can help against Electric-type Pokemon. Wingull has a ton of support options including, but not limited to, Roost, Toxic, Pluck, Rest, Sleep Talk, and Substitute. Wingull also has a few offensive alternatives such as Icy Wind, Ominous Wind, and Blizzard. Quick Attack, though weak, does offer priority for Wingull. Agility finds little use as Wingull is already very fast, but it's there. Rain Dish is a great alternative ability for Wingull when Rain is up on the field.

[Checks and Counters]

Chinchou is really the best switch-in to Wingull, resisting both of its STABs and retaliating with a STAB Electric-move that will clip Wingull's wings instantly. Elekid does a good job as well, but won't be able to switch into Wingull reliably more than once or twice. Bulky Water-type Pokemon such as Slowpoke and Frillish can handle Wingull rather well. Munchlax can sponge Wingull's moves and heavily damage it with its attacks. Wingull is dreadfully weak to Stealth Rock, losing 25% of it's health every time it comes in so having that on the field helps. Priority moves such as Sucker Punch from Pawniard can quickly halt Wingull's sweeping attempts.

I personally would never set up Rain Dance with Wingull, it's just too frail. U-turn is also very good. Hidden Power could be used to kill Chinchou. Ground hits other Electric-types hard, while Grass hits Water-types, who are usually good switch-ins to Wingull. I'd actually put HP Grass slashed in with Ice Beam, as Flying beats Grass anyway.

Wingull gets Agility, if 19 isn't fast enough.

Quick Attack provides cool priority.

You should run Hasty/Naive if running U-turn.

Knock Off is cool.

Shock Wave kills Mantyke and little else.

Obligatory mention of Rapid Spin teammates.

Wingull is pretty priority weak, Croagunk, Pawniard, and Stunky can all Sucker Punch it down, but Croagunk hates Air Slash and the others dislike Scald.

Also, mention SR in Checks and Counters. Because it is SR weak.

Zeph, all good, but you need to work on your "Other Options" and "Checks and Counters" sections for future analyses, as it sounds like you just take the bullet point list from your skeleton and remove the bullet points. Perhaps you should link some of the sentences together, to make it sound less like a list, but otherwise, this was good.
Good job friend :D

Some spacing errors and you left in aprt of the GP check under OO. I also changed a comma to a semi colon in the same paragraph.

I bolded an incorrect sentence under 'Checks and Counters', you may want to reword that. Also saying something is dreadfully weak to Stealth Rock makes it sound like it is 4x weak to it, just weak would be better.
