WarStory: I sacrificed half of my team just to struggle... O_O

OU WARSTORY

Okay, so I decided to make this a WarStory because, well... You'll find out later exactly what happened, but basically, I sacrificed my entire team at one point of the game... Without further adue, here's the log/explanation/team/etc. Enjoy reading!

Just letting you all know, .. is me, and StevenSkype is my opponent.

My Team:

It's somewhat of a standard team, besides I used 2 UU's, since all-OU is never really that exciting... Hitmontop is awesome for its ability to hit priorities. LO Technician Fake Out + STAB Technician Mach Punch really can kill sweepers before they can even touch me. Slowbro is the standard physical wall on this team, and you'll see its GLORY later :naughty:. Other than that, I use Lead Metagross, Light Screen defensive Roosting Zapdos, Sub-Recover Latias with 2 attacks and a standard MixApe. Not much else to say here, so let's begin the story.

StevenSnype's Team:
You'll see at the end, or scroll to the bottom of the warstory right now...

Commentaries will be in BOLD; scores will be in RED.

Rules: Evasion Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Sleep Clause, Soul Dew Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause, Timed Battle

Beginning: 6-6 Tie (obviously)
.. sent out Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross).
StevenSnype sent out Ambipom (lvl 100 Ambipom ♂).
Ambipom used Fake Out.
It's not very effective...
Metagross lost 9% of its health.
Metagross flinched!

Ambipom lead... There's only one typical kind. It's not hard to predict, but since I don't have any Ghosts on this team, and Metagross being the only Steel type, I had to keep it in.
---
StevenSnype: gl hf
StevenSnype: and wow i like the new shoddy
..: yeah
..: lol
Ambipom used Taunt.
Metagross fell for the taunt!
Metagross used Meteor Mash.
Ambipom lost 100% of its health.
StevenSnype's Ambipom fainted.

I predicted that Taunt coming, since most Metagross would get the Stealth Rocks down a.s.a.p., but I didn't go for it. I just Mashed that thing to death. The good news is that I'm up 1; the bad news is that I can't lay down Stealth Rock for awhile now...

6-5 Me (StevenSnype's Ambipom fainted)
---
StevenSnype switched in Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune).
Suicune is exerting its pressure!

He sends in Suicune, and there's nothing I can do to Metagross... Although it is a wonderful chance to set up some Rocks, but I'm Taunted so...
Switch time!

.. switched in Zapdos (lvl 100 Zapdos).
Zapdos is exerting its pressure!
StevenSnype switched in Gengar (lvl 100 Gengar ♂).
---
StevenSnype: i think they should have a chat for finding battles when the ladder's broken like tomorrow
Gengar used Thunderbolt.
Zapdos lost 31% of its health.
Gengar lost 10% of its health.
Zapdos used Light Screen.
A barrier was formed!
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.

I have no idea why he didn't use Shadow Ball instead of Thunderbolt, but nonetheless, it shouldn't make that much of a difference since I can survive both, set up Light Screen and Roost. This switch was perfect, since Zapdos is my primary Special Wall on this team.

Nonetheless, pretty nice switch there to Gengar from Suicune on the same turn I switched out my Zapdos.
---
StevenSnype switched in Snorlax (lvl 100 Snorlax ♀).
Zapdos used Discharge.
Snorlax lost 15% of its health.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.
Snorlax's leftovers restored its health a little!
Snorlax restored 6% of its health.

Snorlax is just annoying...... Of course it's a curselax, and I can't do shit to it with my Zapdos.
---
StevenSnype: major server lag on the weekends
.. switched in Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross).
Snorlax used Curse.
Snorlax's speed was lowered.
Snorlax's attack was raised.
Snorlax's defence was raised.
Snorlax's leftovers restored its health a little!
Snorlax restored 6% of its health.
---

Metagross used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around the foe's team!
Snorlax used Curse.
Snorlax's speed was lowered.
Snorlax's attack was raised.
Snorlax's defence was raised.
Snorlax's leftovers restored its health a little!
Snorlax restored 2% of its health.

I switched to Metagross and put down Rocks, during the time he got in 2 Curses. This isn't a good situation, and there's nothing on my team that can do anything to this Snorlax, so since I put down the Rocks already... (I had to because Stealth Rocks are so important; everyone knows it.)
---
Metagross used Explosion.
Snorlax lost 73% of its health.
..'s Metagross fainted.
Snorlax used Curse.
Snorlax's speed was lowered.
Snorlax's attack was raised.
Snorlax's defence was raised.
Metagross's light screen wore off!
Snorlax's leftovers restored its health a little!
Snorlax restored 6% of its health.

Boom goes tyras! Of course, with 2 Curses and such a huge pile of fat building up its HP (just like Blissey), even EXPLOSION from METAGROSS didn't kill it.

5-5 Tie (My Metagross fainted.)
---
.. switched in Hitmontop (lvl 100 Hitmontop ♂).
Hitmontop used Close Combat.
It's super effective!
Snorlax lost 33% of its health.
StevenSnype's Snorlax fainted.
Hitmontop's defence was lowered.
Hitmontop's special defence was lowered.
Hitmontop lost 10% of its health.

And here's the first UU! Hitmontop :). I didn't go for a Fake Out here because it's completely pointless, and I'd lose more HP on the Life Orb than that big fat giant thing with +2 Atk, +2 Def, and -2 Spe.

Close Combat STAB finishes it off, and I'm in a relief, because if it has Rest, then that thing would be a pain!

5-4 (StevenSnype's Snorlax fainted.)
---

The following two turns will be his Suicune, possibly a CroCune set Suicune since it's not using Ice Beam, trying to outstall my Zapdos and obviously, fails... Anyways, so far the exciting part of this WarStory hasn't really begun yet. You can skip to the next set of bolded comments as by then, that Suicune's dead.

StevenSnype switched in Suicune (lvl 100 Suicune).
Suicune is exerting its pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Suicune.
Suicune lost 12% of its health.
.. switched in Zapdos (lvl 100 Zapdos).
Zapdos is exerting its pressure!
Suicune used Surf.
Zapdos lost 21% of its health.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.
Suicune's leftovers restored its health a little!
Suicune restored 6% of its health.
---
Zapdos used Light Screen.
A barrier was formed!
Suicune used Surf.
Zapdos lost 10% of its health.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.
Suicune's leftovers restored its health a little!
Suicune restored 6% of its health.
---
Zapdos used Discharge.
It's super effective!
Suicune lost 44% of its health.
Suicune lost 43% of its health.
Suicune used Calm Mind.
Suicune's special attack was raised.
Suicune's special defence was raised.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.
Suicune's leftovers restored its health a little!
Suicune restored 6% of its health.
---
..: suicune can't outstall zapdos :P
Zapdos used Discharge.
It's super effective!
Suicune lost 25% of its health.
StevenSnype's Suicune fainted.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.

And it dies here.
5-3 Me (StevenSnype's Suicune faints.)
---

StevenSnype switched in Gengar (lvl 100 Gengar ♂).
Pointed stones dug into Gengar.
Gengar lost 12% of its health.
Gengar used Thunderbolt.
Zapdos lost 14% of its health.
Gengar lost 10% of its health.
Zapdos used Discharge.
Gengar lost 55% of its health.
Zapdos's light screen wore off!
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.

He's really trying desperately to get rid of this Zapdos, eh? Anyways, here's the Gengar again... I have no idea why he doesn't use Shadow Ball. Had he used it, Zapdos probably would've been dead by the end of the next attack! (maybe...) lol
---
..: no Shadow Ball?
Gengar used Shadow Ball.
Zapdos lost 35% of its health.
Gengar lost 10% of its health.
Zapdos used Discharge.
Gengar lost 3% of its health.
StevenSnype's Gengar fainted.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.

Zapdos finished Gengar off after futile struggle... I should've Roosted, but idk why I didn't. Maybe I'm too careless since I'm up by so much...

5-2 Me (StevenSnype's Gengar fainted.)

---
..: that's what I thought
StevenSnype switched in Infernape (lvl 100 Infernape ♂).
Pointed stones dug into Infernape.
Infernape lost 12% of its health.
Infernape used Hidden Power.
It's super effective!
Zapdos lost 35% of its health.
..'s Zapdos fainted.
Infernape lost 10% of its health.

Over here I was actually trying to Roost, but Hidden Power [Ice] got me good. This Zapdos has served me good this entire game.

4-2 Me (My Zapdos fainted.)
---
.. switched in Hitmontop (lvl 100 Hitmontop ♂).
Hitmontop used Fake Out.
Infernape lost 34% of its health.
Hitmontop lost 10% of its health.
Infernape flinched!
---
Hitmontop used Mach Punch.
A critical hit!
Infernape lost 43% of its health.
StevenSnype's Infernape fainted.
Hitmontop lost 10% of its health.

The above two turns were just abusing my Hitmontop's Technician Power, annihilated his Infernape! Fake Out + Mach Punch... Technician + Life Orb... Flinch + STAB... Anyways, it's dead even if I don't hit the Crit on the Mach Punch, but there's Strict Damage Clause, so yeah...

4-1 Me (StevenSnype's Infernape fainted.)

And now here's the real fun and highlight of this game...

---
StevenSnype switched in Gyarados (lvl 100 Gyarados ♂).

This thing is the absolutely worst nightmare I want at this moment right now. With Zapdos dead and Metagross gone too, I highly hope that it is not a Taunt Gyara...

Gyarados's intimidate cut Hitmontop's attack!
Pointed stones dug into Gyarados.
Gyarados lost 25% of its health.

Of course I can't keep Hitmontop in. It's pointless right now.
.. switched in Slowbro (lvl 100 Slowbro ♂).
Gyarados used Dragon Dance.
Gyarados's attack was raised.
Gyarados's speed was raised.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

I switched in my physical wall, trying to cripple it, but...
---
Gyarados used Taunt.
Slowbro fell for the taunt!
Slowbro used Thunder Wave.
Slowbro can't use Thunder Wave after the taunt!
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

This is a nightmare. My Physical Wall can't do anything. I was thinking of switching to Latias but Ice Fang would annihilate it after a Dragon Dance, and there's no way that I can kill it with 1 Dragon Pulse! I'm screwed...
---
.. switched in Hitmontop (lvl 100 Hitmontop ♂).
Gyarados used Dragon Dance.
Gyarados's attack was raised.
Gyarados's speed was raised.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

Time for my last resort... My idea is to try to get as much damage as I can into this thing with my Fake Outs... I can't think of anything else right now, and with Leftovers and me switching like mad, I can probably deal no more than a few percent (single digit %) damage to this Gyarados anyways. However, I had to try.
---
Hitmontop used Fake Out.
Gyarados lost 25% of its health.
Hitmontop lost 10% of its health.
Gyarados flinched!
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

My main goal right now is to keep this Hitmontop alive, and hit Fake Outs, so what I do? Keep sacrificing my team!

---
.. switched in Infernape (lvl 100 Infernape ♂).
Gyarados used Dragon Dance.
Gyarados's attack was raised.
Gyarados's speed was raised.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

Oh great, a free Dragon Dance. Last thing I need right now.
---
Gyarados used Waterfall.
It's super effective!
Infernape lost 100% of its health.
..'s Infernape fainted.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

Of course, Infernape can't take that.

SACRIFICE #1: Infernape

3-1 Me (Infernape got sacrificed.)

---
.. switched in Hitmontop (lvl 100 Hitmontop ♂).
Hitmontop used Fake Out.
Gyarados lost 25% of its health.
Hitmontop lost 10% of its health.
Gyarados flinched!
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

Another Fake Out...
---
.. switched in Latias (lvl 100 Latias ♀).
Gyarados used Waterfall.
It's not very effective...
Latias lost 64% of its health.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.
Latias's leftovers restored its health a little!
Latias restored 6% of its health.

Switch... Sacrifice this legendary Latias that has yet to see the daylight during this entire battle...
---
Gyarados used Waterfall.
It's not very effective...
Latias lost 42% of its health.
..'s Latias fainted.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

And it dies, of course. I don't even know if it has Ice Fang. Dang it!

2-1 Me (Latias got sacrificed.)
I'm losing my lead here...
---
.. switched in Hitmontop (lvl 100 Hitmontop ♂).
Hitmontop used Fake Out.
Gyarados lost 24% of its health.
Hitmontop lost 10% of its health.
Gyarados flinched!
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

Another Fake Out. Doing a bit more damage, going with my plan.
---
..: struggling is futile <-- myself
Hitmontop used Sucker Punch.
Gyarados lost 31% of its health.
Hitmontop lost 10% of its health.
Gyarados used Waterfall.
Hitmontop lost 30% of its health.
..'s Hitmontop fainted.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

And Mach Punch won't do junk since it's part Flying type, too, so now finally, I give my best hope, and sacrificed this thing too, that has lasted for my plan, doing a bit damage with Sucker Punch.
---
.. switched in Slowbro (lvl 100 Slowbro ♂).
Gyarados used Taunt.
Slowbro fell for the taunt!
Slowbro used Ice Beam.
Gyarados lost 20% of its health.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

Over here, I prayed that it wouldn't attack; because if it does, I'd be dead. Even if I did go for a Thunder Wave, he's still be faster since I'm a Slowbro and he got what, like 3 Dragon Dances in?! I didn't, of course, since it's pointless.
---
Gyarados used Stone Edge.
Slowbro lost 51% of its health.

Wow! Slowbro is a monster at taking these physical moves! Leftover helped me heal a bit, and the half-eaten-apple contributed much to my victory! I'm kinda pissed, since it apparently does NOT have Ice Fang. I'm not sure how much damage it would do to Latias after the first Dragon Dance though, with Stone Edge, but I'm sure that if I survive that and get a Dragon Pulse in, my life would've been heck easier...

Slowbro used Ice Beam.
Gyarados lost 23% of its health.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.
Slowbro's leftovers restored its health a little!
Slowbro restored 6% of its health.

My part of the turn, and I try to get as much damage in as possible. I thought it would be a lot bulkier than that, but I'm quite surprised that it's not as bulky as I thought. It's an offensive TauntGyara!?
---
Gyarados used Stone Edge.
Slowbro lost 47% of its health.
Slowbro used Ice Beam.
Gyarados lost 9% of its health.
StevenSnype's Gyarados fainted.
.. wins!
StevenSnype: gg
..: :O

AND I WON WITH 8% LEFT ON SLOWBROS. Leftovers on him helped, and the Stealth Rock from Metagross definitely helped too. I only had an overkill on Gyarados for about 2% HP, so it was really close to my loss.

What's more importantly, that series of struggle-sacrifice-Fake Outs were just completely insane.

GREAT BATTLE, STEVENSNYPE!

StevenSnype's Team:

Time for the Props/Slops!

Props:
- Zapdos for being a beast, taking out so much of his team.
- Hitmontop's Technician ability and his Fake Outs, helped taking out Infernape and contributed so much to the downfall of Gyarados.
- And of course, Slowbro and his half-eaten Leftovers apple core, for being a such useful UU, tanked the greatest doom, and pulled off the win with such a tiny margin!
- At last but not least, I must give applauses to the dooming Gyarados on my opponent's team, for almost pulling a win from a 4-1 loss, frustrated the shit out of me, and almost shut down my team completely.

Slops:
- Latias, for not doing anything but being a sitting duck to get sacrificed.
- My bad play of almost losing the game from 4-1 lead.
- Had to SACRIFICE my team mates for survival... Then again, that's what made the game exciting.

GOOD JOB!

The warstory is a bit bland IMO, especially when you get to the last part where it's just you trying to stop a Gyarados sweep (where you coul'dve possibly taken the moment to try to stop with Latias). The commentary alone isn't all that impressive either

This warstory was decent, but not great. Your opponent made some mistakes (curse over rest after the Explosion, using T-bolt instead of Shadow Ball, trying to beat Zapdos with Suicune)

The battle was badly played from both sides and it was barely warstory-able in the first place. You lackluster comments didn't help either.

It seems inefficient from my point of view to have Life Orb on Hitmontop. Life Orb always does exactly 10% of your maximum HP no matter what the base power of the move is, whether it's a base 35 Tackle or a base 140 Draco Meteor. Losing 10% of your own health every time you try to plink away at your opponent's HP with relatively weak moves like Fake Out, Mach Punch, and Sucker Punch seems like a waste. I think you'd be able to keep Hitmontop in there longer if you used a more conventional item like Leftovers, or heck, even a Muscle Band.

Though, in retrospect, it would be interesting if the game had an item that powered up your attacks, but took a portion of your health away proportional to the base power of the attack...

Boom goes tyras! Of course, with 2 Stealth Rocks and such a huge pile of fat building up its HP (just like Blissey), even EXPLOSION from METAGROSS didn't kill it.
two curses perhaps?

The warstory was meh... Ive seen better, and for one thing, your opponent should've switched Suicune to Gengar and used Expolosion on Zapdos. Now that would've been an exciting warstory.

The story needs more color if you know what I mean

Not incredible but somewhat enjoyable. Comments above have been very harsh as it wasn't that bad with that kind of exciting ending. Try to only warstory battles that have been incredible or very enjoyable please this battle has been a bit limited if you compare some to the archive.

Although this Warstory has poor comments, was full of mistakes and not that epic, for some strange reason I actually really enjoyed it. It was a light, fun read and an especially interesting end.

So a good read, but I would try and improve the format next time.

I think there was a mistake in the commentary when your metagross expolded, I think you ment it survived with 2 curses and a lot of hp, and not as you put - 2 stealth rocks and a lot of hp.

The warstory was ok by the standard of smogon ( the comments did not say much). But hey, I read it and found it to be quite enjoyable.

Andy Snype

Mr. Music
i remember this match. didn't really see why to make this a warstory, but from your perspective it was a good one. btw, reason i used t-bolt instead of shadow ball is at the time, gengar vs. zapdos always resulted in a switch to blissey and i never liked revealing infernapes. and the snorlax was a selfdestruct-lax.
