NOC Vote For Town Mafia - Abandoned (See Post #109) And Soon To Be Reranded!

It's amazing how something can look so familiar yet feel so off.

As you lie awake in bed, at first glance, it doesn't seem like anything's changed. It's still your world...you think. Well at least, if there's something that seems different, you couldn't name it. So what's with this feeling of dread? Nothing looks "wrong."

After pondering it for a while, you decide you can't find any justifiable reason for why you're feeling the way you are, and give up. It's probably nothing. Everyone has "off" days, right? You're not really sure why you feel off, but you assume it's just "one of those days." You go about your morning routine as usual. By the time you've left the house, you find your feelings of unease have waned, and you've become more comfortable with your surroundings.

Up until you walk amongst a crowd of people.

They look human. They act human. But their aura strikes an inexplicable fear into you that shakes you to your very core.

You do your best to examine them discreetly. Upon inspection, you determine that almost nothing about them is particularly abnormal. Key word being "almost."

It's the eyes. They were shaped like human eyes, no doubt, but they lacked any kind spirit or emotion. It certainly didn't help that their irises were pitch black.

You're beginning to think that you definitely aren't in your world anymore.

In the midst of all the creepy eyes, you spot a familar face, one that doesn't look like some lifeless puppet. It turns out to be Oddish, who leads you to a small group of people, all of whom you recognize from smogon. They similarly seem to possess the regular human eyes that you're used to seeing back in your world. She explains that she's discovered a way out, and motions to a portal.

"The thing is...I highly suspect that there are doppelgangers among us."

Everyone looks at each other. A doppelganger? You almost want to doubt it, but after what you've seen, you think it may not be too farfetched. Still, one thing bothered you about that assumption.

"But wouldn't they have those creepy black eyes?" You ask.

"Contact lenses are a thing," Oddish answers.

Good point.

"Let's just say I've noticed some very odd behavior...I can't say what though. If I do, they can augment it. But I feel it. There's something off about this group. I think the doppelgangers want to go back to our world." Oddish may as well be wearing a tinfoil hat while standing in front of a wall, drawing lines between photographs. "We need to weed them out and stop them here. And the only way to do that..."

"...Is to play mafia! Not me though. I'm gonna go through the portal and keep an eye on it. Y'all have fun though!" Oddish leaves before anyone can protest.

Looks like you've got no choice. Everyone turns to each other once again with accusatory looks, ready to sniff out the doppelgangers amongst them.

Setup
- Nightless
- 6 Vanilla Townies
- 2 Mafia Goons
- Players may not self-vote except to hammer, but may self-hammer.
- Every day, the player with the most votes leaves the game (much as with a traditional lynch), but this helps their side's win condition rather than hurting it.
- If enough townies manage to leave the game that mafia are left making up half the remaining playerlist, town wins.
- If every member of the mafia manages to leave the game, scum win.

Standard NOC Rules
- If you're alive, do not talk to anybody about this game outside this thread. If you are a spectator or dead, do not speak to anyone about the game outside of spec chat.
- Do not screenshot or quote your role pm.
- Do not edit or delete your posts.
- If a person gains a majority of votes on them, they will be lynched and the day will end. This is not in effect for day 1.
- If someone is majority lynched or deadline passes, any votes that happen afterwards will not count, even if I am not around to call deadline.
- In the case of a tie, a no lynch will occur.
- At minimum, I would appreciate at least 5 posts per day phase, though this is not a free pass to just make 5 filler/one-liner posts and dip. I reserve the right to substitute anybody whose activity I consider unsatisfactory.
- I will only grant extensions under extreme circumstances.
- I sincerely hope it never comes down to this, but under extreme circumstances, I reserve the right to modkill. Due to the nature of the game, a modkill will result in an autoloss for that player's faction.
- Each phase will be 48 hours unless its extended or ended due to a majority lynch.
- Don't be an asshole. Seriously. I will say something/intervene if it gets too bad.
- Encryption is not allowed.

Pretty sure I got everyone now, so it's game start!

Day 1 ends Sunday, March 3rd at 8 pm EST. So...not quite 48 hours but close enough lol. All subsequent days will definitely be exactly that though

Have fun!

Yo dudes, I've been thinking of game strategy this morning and I think it is very clearly best to never lynch the best town solvers in this game. Personally I would say this is probably hal/josh? If they are town then it is always good to have them in solving the game rather than another town person who might not have as good reads. If they are scum we obviously don't want to lynch them anyways. So for me I think we should probably agree that these people are never lynched until lylo so that they can continue to game solve and carry?

Not that we have to lynch them at lylo specifically, I just think we always make sure they stick around until lylo. I don't see any loss for town by doing this?

I think a strategy along those lines is good. I’d prefer we be more flexible as to who we keep however - we should keep active universal townreads around, rather than specific players imo.

Specific players can have good or bad games or can be more or less active. We also don’t want to pick players based on reputation to control the flow of the game when they are just as likely to be mafia as anyone else.

I think it is also useful for people to post full reads lists as often as possible - mafia can’t remove who we townread so there’s no point in not being vocal about that in this format.

I’m not sure how to approach pressuring people yet in this game, since there’s no mechanism by which to apply pressure via the game mechanics. I think we should change strategies accordingly - what is important is finding connections between people, so focusing more on finding the cleanest person on a given day who we are comfortable voting out is probably more useful than accusations that can’t be backed up by anything tangible. Obviously this doesn’t mean keep your scumreads to yourself, it means try and think more about who is clean vs who is scum than you would in a typical game.

Finally, we should never under any circumstances hammer someone. They will probably hammer themselves but we want to allow town the opportunity to make some final posts before self hammering.

Gotta run sorry if there are errors in this post it was made from a phone X_X

Ok super early scumread on Josh, there's no reason to toss a decent strat aside for the simple reason you are so good that you D2 solve wins. I definitely don't think town Josh believes these either, especially after last game.

I didn't toss your strat aside. You don't understand the setup.
