[OVERVIEW]

Vivillon is able to distinguish itself from other setup sweepers with an accurate Sleep Powder courtesy of Compound Eyes, allowing it to cripple its checks or present itself with a safe opportunity to set up Quiver Dance. When combined with its passable offensive stats and ability to achieve multiple boosts, Vivillon is capable of becoming a potent setup sweeper. Unfortunately, Vivillon's terrible bulk compounded with a poor defensive typing that comes with a 4x weakness to Stealth Rock limits its opportunities to enter play and set up and makes it vulnerable to numerous priority users like Golisopod, Lycanroc-D, and Zygarde-10%. Furthermore, even after a boost, Vivillon fails to break past specially bulky Pokemon like Snorlax and Goodra as well as close the gap between particularly fast Choice Scarf users such as Flygon and Houndoom, which means it requires a considerable amount of preparation and team support to successfully pull off a sweep. Lastly, Vivillon contests with Pokemon like Ribombee and Yanmega as offensive Bug-types, as their superior Speed tiers and immediate offensive pressure can be used to break apart teams with more ease. Other setup sweepers such as Salazzle and Virizion require less support to function and are much harder to stop with boosts.

Moves
========

Sleep Powder cripples foes and presents Vivillon with an opportunity to set up. Substitute provides Vivillon with a shield from priority and status moves while facilitating setup with Quiver Dance.

Set Details
========

Compound Eyes is a key component to Vivillon, greatly improving the accuracy of Sleep Powder and Hurricane. Flyinium Z is a useful tool to muscle past Pokemon that can survive a +1 Hurricane such as Ninetales and Assault Vest Machamp while bypassing most defensive checks if Vivillon is able to get multiple boosts. Leftovers is another option that allows Vivillon to use Substitute more often, which presents it with more opportunities to use Quiver Dance.

Usage Tips
========

Avoid sending Vivillon in if Stealth Rock is on the field, as it greatly reduces Vivillon's longevity and puts it in range of priority moves such as Zygarde-10%'s Extreme Speed. Vivillon should also be brought in through slow pivots or forced switches, as its poor bulk can similarly leave it open to faster attackers. Aim to set up with Vivillon once specially bulky foes such as Snorlax and Goodra have been sufficiently weakened, as they can stomach even a boosted Z-Move and retaliate with a powerful attack. Similarly, have faster Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Salazzle and users of priority like Lycanroc-D eliminated before attempting to set up, since they're able to deny a sweep by outpacing +1 Vivillon and targeting its poor defensive stats and typing, though Vivillon can take out most Choice Scarf users with multiple boosts. Vivillon can best set up against forced switches and passive Pokemon, as the likes of Slowbro and Tangela can be threatened by Sleep Powder or a super effective move. Pokemon like Choice-locked Rhyperior and Shaymin are also ideal setup targets, as Vivillon can use its Ground immunity and set of resistances to exploit these foes. Substitute should be utilized against forced switches in order to ease setup with Quiver Dance and prevent priority users from revenge killing it. In situations where Vivillon is unable to successfully pull off a sweep, it can still utilize its fast and accurate Sleep Powder to cripple foes such as Registeel and Gigalith, which can greatly support its teammates.

Team Options
========

Due to Vivillon's 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, entry hazard removers such as Mega Blastoise and Donphan make for great teammates, as they're able to remove them from the field. Pokemon like Registeel, Metagross, and Roserade, are capable of setting entry hazards themselves, chipping the opposition and allowing Vivillon to sweep more easily. Pivots like Flygon and Mega Ampharos are able to bring Vivillon into play safely, and Flygon is also able to lure setup targets like Slowbro and Cresselia. Passimian is a notable option, as it can break through various Pokemon Vivillon struggles against like Registeel, Gigalith, and Porygon2. Wallbreakers such as Metagross, Zygarde-10%, and Drapion can form an offensive core with Vivillon, and the former two appreciate its ability to set up on foes like Slowbro and Tangela. Most notably, Fighting-types such as Machamp, Toxicroak, and Virizion can break through various Pokemon that can take Vivillon's moves like the aforementioned Registeel and Porygon2. Priority users like Zygarde-10%, Golisopod, and Lycanroc-D can be problematic for Vivillon, so Pokemon like Slowbro, Dragalge, and Bronzong are respective switch-ins to their attacks and are capable of removing them outright.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Bug Buzz can be used in conjunction with Buginium Z to OHKO certain Pokemon at +1 like Metagross and Raikou, though this forces Vivillon to replace Substitute, which is a valuable tool for getting multiple boosts.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Attackers and Priority**: Before using Quiver Dance, Vivillon finds itself outsped by numerous attackers like Ninetales, Noivern, and Drapion, which can OHKO it prior to setup. Even at +1, Vivillon is unable to outspeed Choice Scarf users like Salazzle, Flygon, and Houndoom, though +2 Vivillon is able to break past these. Additionally, due to Vivillon's poor bulk, it can easily be picked off by moves such as Zygarde-10%'s Extreme Speed and Donphan's Ice Shard and even resisted moves like Golisopod's First Impression once sufficiently weakened.

**Specially Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon like Florges, Mantine, and Registeel possess the bulk to take repeated hits from Vivillon and can retaliate with Toxic. Mantine is additionally capable of removing stat boosts with Haze.

**Rock-types**: Choice Scarf Tyrantrum threatens to outpace an unboosted Vivillon, whereas Lycanroc-D can always OHKO Vivillon with Accelerock. Both Diancie and Gigalith can take boosted hits and use Stealth Rock to punish Vivillon in the event that it's forced out.

**Electric-types**: Both Raikou and Mega Ampharos can survive any move Vivillon throws at it and OHKO it in return with Thunderbolt.

**Stealth Rock**: Due to Vivillon's 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, entering play while it's on the field severely reduces its longevity and chances of setting up.

  • Vivillon is able to distinguish itself from other setup sweepers with an accurate Sleep Powder courtesy of Compound Eyes, allowing it to cripple its checks or present itself with a safe opportunity to set up Quiver Dance.
  • When combined with its passable offensive stats and near-unresisted STAB combination, Vivillon is capable of becoming a potent setup sweeper.
  • Unfortunately, Vivillon's terrible bulk compounded with a poor defensive typing that comes with a 4x weakness to Stealth Rock limits its opportunities to enter play and set up, and it makes it vulnerable to numerous priority users like Golisopod, Lycanroc-D, and Zygarde-10%.
  • Furthermore, even after a boost, Vivillon fails to break past specially bulky Pokemon like Snorlax and Goodra (registeel too, most important roadblock) as well as close the gap between particularly fast Choice Scarf users such as Flygon and Houndoom, (only if it can't get muliple boosts, which is more possible than usual thanks to sleep) which means it requires a considerable amount of preperation and team support for Vivillon to successfully pull off a sweep.
  • Lastly, Vivillon contests with Pokemon like Ribombee and Yanmega as offensive Bug-types, as their superior Speed tiers and immediate offensive pressure can be used to break apart teams with more ease. (other sweepers like linoone also need less support and are harder to stop)

  • Sleep Powder cripples foes and presents Vivillon with an opportunity to set up.
  • Bug Buzz is Vivillon's primary and most reliable STAB option with neutral coverage against the majority of the tier.
  • Hurricane is a stronger STAB move that can be used to target foes resistant or neutral to Bug Buzz such as Machamp and Araquanid. (fire-types and bug/steel types too)
  • Energy Ball can be used to more effectively break past Rock-types like Rhyperior and Diancie, though Vivillon has difficulty running this over either of its STAB moves.
Set Details
========
  • Compound Eyes is a key component to Vivillon, greatly improving the accuracy of Sleep Powder and Hurricane.
  • Buginium Z converts Bug Buzz into Savage Spinout, which at +1 secures OHKOes on Pokemon like Metagross and Raikou, as well as Rhyperior after a layer of Spikes.
  • Flyinium Z is an alternative that OHKOes Pokemon that Buginium Z and Hurricane can't at +1 such as Ninetales, Dragalge, and Assault Vest Machamp while being a stronger move against neutral targets.
Usage Tips
========

  • Avoid sending Vivillon in if Stealth Rock is on the field, as it greatly reduces its longevity and puts it in range of priority moves such as Zygarde-10%'s Extreme Speed.

(mention that setting up twice puts you ahead of scarfers)
  • Vivillon can best set up against forced switches and passive Pokemon, as the likes of Slowbro and Tangela can be threatened by Sleep Powder or a super effective move.
  • Pokemon like choice-locked Rhyperior and Shaymin are also ideal setup targets, as Vivillon can use its Ground immunity and set of resistances to exploit these foes.
  • Finally, preserving Vivillon's Z-Move is important if it intends to break past healthy foes such as Metagross, Raikou, or Assault Vest Machamp at +1, as mistiming its use can potentially ruin its sweep.
Team Options

  • Due to Vivillon's 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, entry hazard removers such as Mega Blastoise and Donphan make for great teammates, as they're able to remove them from the field.
  • Donphan among other Pokemon like Registeel, Seismitoad, Roserade, and Uxie can set entry hazards themselves, chipping the opposition and allowing Vivillon to sweep more easily. For instance, with a layer of Spikes, Vivillon can OHKO foes like Mega Ampharos and defensive Rhyperior at +1 with Savage Spinout. • Substitute can be used as a shield from status and priority moves, but fitting this move onto sets can prove troublesome, as dropping Sleep Powder or any one of Vivillon's STAB moves means it loses the ability to incapacitate foes or the coverage to target a wide array of Pokemon. (bug buzz is what you have to drop, describe the downsides of that)

Compound Eyes is a key component to Vivillon, greatly improving the accuracy of Sleep Powder and Hurricane. Flyinium Z OHKOes Pokemon that that... what? Pokemon like Registeel, Seismitoad, Roserade, and Uxie are capable of setting entry hazards themselves, chipping the opposition and allowing Vivillon to sweep more easily. Uxie isn't really that relevant. I would personally replace this with Necrozma since it can threaten every hazard remover in the tier, which adds on offensive pressure when Vivillon sets up. But that's up to you. Roserade and Uxie are also notable, as they're able to provide Vivillon with a safe opportunity to switch in through Sleep Powder and Memento. Slow U-turn too. Pivots like Flygon and Mega Ampharos are able to bring Vivillon into play safely, while Flygon is able to lure setup targets like Slowbro and Cresselia. Passimian is a notable option, as it can break through various Pokemon Vivillon struggles against like Registeel, Gigalith, and Porygon2. Compound Eyes is a key component to Vivillon, greatly improving the accuracy of Sleep Powder and Hurricane. Flyinium Z is a useful tool to muscle past Pokemon that can survive a +1 Hurricane such as Ninetales and Assault Vest Machamp while being a useful tool to bypassing most defensive checks if Vivillon is able to get multiple boosts. Leftovers is another option that allows Vivillon to use Substitute more often, which presents it with more opportunities to use Quiver Dance.

Usage Tips
========

Avoid sending Vivillon in if Stealth Rock is on the field, as it greatly reduces its Vivillon's longevity and puts it in range of priority moves such as Zygarde-10%'s Extreme Speed. Substitute should be utilized against forced switches in order to ease the setup with Quiver Dance and prevent priority users from revenge killing it. In situations where Vivillon is unable to successfully pull off a sweep, it can still utilize its fast and accurate Sleep Powder to cripple foes such as Registeel and Gigalith, which can greatly support its teammates.

Team Options
========

Pivots like Flygon and Mega Ampharos are able to bring Vivillon into play safely, while and Flygon is also able to lure setup targets like Slowbro and Cresselia. Most notably, Fighting-types such as Machamp, Toxicroak, and Virizion can break through various Pokemon that can take Vivillon's moves like the previously aforementioned Registeel and Porygon2. Priority users like Zygarde-10%, Golisopod, and Lycanroc-D can be problematic for Vivillon, so Pokemon like Slowbro, Dragalge, and Bronzong are respective switch-(AH)ins to their attacks and are capable of removing them outright.

Other Options
=============

Bug Buzz can be used in conjunction with Buginium Z to OHKO certain Pokemon at +1 like Metagross and Raikou, though this forces Vivillon to replace Substitute, which is a valuable tool for getting multiple boosts.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Attackers and Priority**: Before using Quiver Dance, Vivillon finds itself outsped by numerous attackers including like Ninetales, Noivern, and Drapion, which can OHKO it prior to setup. Even at +1, Vivillon is unable to outspeed fast users of Choice Scarf users like Salazzle, Flygon, and Houndoom, though +2 Vivillon is able to break past these. Additionally, due to Vivillon's poor bulk, it can easily be picked off by moves such as Zygarde-10%'s Extreme Speed and Donphan's Ice Shard,(RC) and even resisted moves like Golisopod's First Impression once sufficiently weakened.

Both Diancie and Gigalith can take boosted hits and can use Stealth Rock to punish Vivillon in the event that it's forced out.

**Electric-types**: Both Raikou and Mega Ampharos can survive any move Vivillon throws at it and OHKO it in return with Thunderbolt.

**Stealth Rock**: Due to Vivillon's 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, entering play while they're on the field severely reduces its longevity and chances of setting up.

Furthermore, even after a boost, Vivillon fails to break past specially bulky Pokemon like Snorlax and Goodra as well as close the gap between particularly fast Choice Scarf users such as Flygon and Houndoom at +1, which means it requires a considerable amount of preparation and team support for Vivillon to successfully pull off a sweep.
