Future entrants to look out for!
- EB0LA
- The best player, by far. While a very strong RBY OU player already, he's way better here and has been around the block for a few years now. He made a really cool VapNite team that's been the team to beat for a long time. Many players pilot it but few can replicate his success. Whenever there's an RBY UU tour, he's normally there to win it. He went 4-1 in RBYPL for UU too, nobody else replicated it.
- Lusch
- Another famous RBY OU player that's played UU for years and assisted in tiering. He's got a few unique opinions and concepts that he's applied to climb the spotlight ladder and generally just do really well. He's placed very highly in tournaments over the years and done well in RoA Olympics.
- Volk
- One of the best players out there, easily better than me. He's advanced the metagame with new concepts for a while now and played a big part in rising Venusaur to UU by pairing it with Articuno. He also won the recent RoA Spotlight Tour! If he signs up, I can see him being very expensive.
- Sevi 7
- One of the big proponents of the metagame that's also assisted in tiering and the like. I'd say he's firmly below the above players in terms of skill, but he's still a titan that's difficult to beat.
- kjdaas
- Went 3-2 in RBYPL playing solely UU, being the only player to beat EB0LA.
My Thoughts
Not shocked that a bunch of players got missed out but it's the fault of no one, it's a new frontier for many! I should emphasize that this tier is very chess-like in how it plays, and an inexperienced player will often see themselves getting choked out by cores you really can't break without knowing their inner workings. There's not much luck involved despite RBY's reputation, and there's a lot of low-ranked Pokemon that can just blow you out the water if you don't know what they do either. Don't expect a noob to pick up the tier in a week and suddenly smack down the top players with dumb luck, it doesn't work like that!
So here are my thoughts on the mock auction and how stuff went;
- I think I was overpriced relative to Shellnuts. I'm not sure if I was played up as a joke or if people think I'm some goddess, but I am still beatable and not some auto-win. Shellnuts goes even with me at the very least, then there's PacAttacc who I frequently play with, he knows my habits pretty damn well. I would also say that Shellnuts has more to offer on a teamwork front because of his ridiculous game theory knowledge that can apply to virtually any tier. I am confident I'll perform well here, but don't blow your bucks.
- Nobody went for phoopes and that's absolutely ludicrous. phoopes, while he's The Smogoff Man™, is a very good RBY UU player. He's performed consistently well in RoA Tour Nights, was on the winning team's UU squad in RBYPL, and can absolutely do well. You can't go wrong with this guy, 9k at minimum, ideally more.
- Melanie is a solid, opinionated player that can and should have been drafted. She's got some good teambuilding skills with solid ideas and applies them well. I'd say she's around the same level as phoopes, albeit with a slight tendency to tilt. I'd shoot for 6k, maybe a bit more.
- Harb1ng3r hasn't been playing for too long, but he has boundless potential and has been improving very quickly. I've played with him in the Community Discord and he consistently surprises me. I'm pretty sure a team could get him at like 3-4k and get a ton of mileage out of him. He also has some outside gen exp though I'm not sure how well it's applied nor how much he knows. Absolutely bag him.
- PacAttacc and ReeceHughes were priced just right. PacAttacc is very experienced in the tier, and while he's not consistent, he would eat a lot of the competition alive on his own. He's got some unique teams that all perform decently...except Tangela+Magneton! ReeceHughes has solid GSC UU exp and would definitely help on an advisor level, and while his RBY UU experience has me doubtful, I can see him performing well if given a push.
You should also watch out for: LTG, El Cadaver, and SBPC. They have some, albeit not much, experience, and could likely do well with a little push.
