SM OU The Magnificent Six




Introduction

Heya, its VolcanoHead, but most will probably know me better by my discord and Ps username, Count Sheep, if you know me at all. This teams concept came up originally in April, where I wanted to build around offensive M.Scizor, but the team was poorly built and was pretty unsuccessful in that current meta. I decided to return to the concept of team late July, after a BO building craze. As a result of having built 10 solid BO teams in my eyes, prior, and going through 3 different versions of this team, I believe the end result to be the most concrete team I've ever built. I will be the first to admit Im not a great battler, but this team was able to carry me up higher than I've ever been peaking at 1729. But with the recent release of M.Latias and the rise in usage in Tapu Lele, I didnt just want to let the team gather dust in the teambuilder as the meta further evolves, so heres its rmt, putting the team to rest.


Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite

This is the high and mighty gunslinger the team is built around, being able to blast through teams with Bullet Punch after a few boosts. Adamant Bullet Punch hits incredibly hard, dealing over half to M.Charizard-Y and Ohkoing Tapu Koko 81.3% of the time at +2. This makes M.Scizor a potentially brutal late game cleaner, with great typing and bulk helping it get off an SD, allowing it to tear through HO builds. Bug Bite is there for the fatter walls, such as M.Sableye, Chansey and Ferrothorn, being M.Scizors strongest move increasing the match up Vs stall, and the fatter balances that have appeared recently. Bug Bite also comes with a nice secondary effect of stealing berries, so setting up Vs double dance Zygarde is far less risky. Toxapex is usually a major problem for M.Scizor, however Double Edge helps alleviate this problem. Now that Toxapex are running Shed Shell, you can SD on the switch, +2 Double Edge into Regular Double Edge next turn + rocks, is doing 99% min to phys def Toxapex. Double Edge also has the benefit of hitting Zapdos and Landorus-T incredibly hard boosted and other slower bulkier threats that resist Bug Bite. Max attack and speed are run for M.Scizor to hit as hard as possible while also outpacing as much as possible.



Magnezone @ Shed Shell

Magnezone is M.Scizors Superpower, trapping and beating the Steel types for M.Scizor. In particular Celesteela and Skarmory. This is essential to the team, as M.Scizor lacks Superpower to beat these walls, and thus won't be able to clean late game. This lets the team abuse the common Celesteela + Toxapex cores, being able to beat both with confidence, opening up the opponents team. Due to Magnezones importance, Shed Shell is being ran to bypass Dugtrios trapping, as losing Magnezone to a random Eject Button or double often ends the game, as M.Scizor can not break Steels. Substitute is primarily for M.Mawile, as the team lacks switch ins to its destructive power. Sub allows you to dodge the Sucker Punch and gain a free turn and 2hko it with Tbolt. However as Electium Z isn't run, there will be mind games to win. As an added benefit of sub, Magnezone often gets free chances to sub up Vs Ferrothorns on the Leech Seed or attack, as they cannot break it and either stall rain or trick room turns, or deal extra chip damage for M.Scizor late game. Max Spatk modest is used for Magnezone to hit as hard as possible and its speed is to outpace max speed M.Mawile +1 to catch M.Scizors and other pokemon at this speed tier.



Landorus-Therian @ Earth Plate

Landorus-T plays multiple important roles for the team, while hitting hard with Earth Plate (no soft sand peasantry) acting as the teams wall breaker, but also offering defensive utility with Intimidate and its solid typing, being immune to Ground and resisting Fighting. LandoTs main role though, is luring in Skarmory to Knock Off its Shed Shell, allowing Magnezone to trap, and opening up the opponents team to M.Scizor. Stealth Rocks are also extremely important for the team, allowing M.Scizor to beat Toxapex, as well as generally chipping the opponents team, slowly putting them in range of boosted Bullet Punch. LandoT can get rocks up Vs stall as it 2hkos 248 HP / 116 Def M.Sableye with Earthquake, and can scare both Skarmory and Zapdos out with Smack Down Earthquake making it a nice rocker for the team. LandoT not only helps stall match up with rocks and luring Skarmory, but can also potentially spearhead the assault Vs Spl Stall, as after Knocking Clef, LandoT has no switch ins, now pressuring Clef too. Jolly is used over adamant, as the speed in incredibly nice for Pokemon creeping its adamant speed tier, but also the added damage of adamant that is needed to beat Clef is no longer required as Knock Removes its passive healing allowing Lando to eventually beat it.

Latios, like Landorus-T, also plays numerous rolls for the team in offensive presence, defensive utility and luring for M.Scizor. However Latios tends to play a more defensive roll for the team, being the teams only Fire resist, checking Pokemon like Heatran and M.CharizardY, but also being a nice Keldeo check, not risking Tangrowth to a Z move. Latios is also a nice switch-in in general due to its recovery which also increases its longevity during the match and stopping the team from outright losing to Fire types. Latios is also an important lure for Heatran, which is a major threat to M.Scizor and the rest of the team. Z Surf Ohkos offensive Heatrans and has a 60% chance to Ohko max Hp before rocks. Z Surf can also let Latios escape Pursuit trapping by Tyranitar or can be used in general to pick off weakened threats, as Latios's regular moves aren't hitting hard without the boost from Life Orb. Psyshock works as Latios's main way of doing damage outside of Z Surf, 2hkoing Volcarona and denting Spdef Toxapex and other super effective hits. Latios is also the teams hazard removal, being immune to both spikes and toxic spikes, but also having speed to get off defogs more easily, so max speed is ran.

Tangrowth's fat. It can switch in to a large portion of the meta and pivot out whilst recovering health on the forced double. This is a crucial role on the team as the rest of the team is more offensively focused and thus more frail. With AV, it can switch in to many of the tiers most prominent special attackers and with minor phys def investment, Tangrowth can also check Tapu Bulu, M.Lopunny and Zygarde far better. But most importantly, it can now check M.Swampert far more consistently. Tangrowths Ev spread allows it to live 2 adamant M.Swampert Ice Punch after rocks, making Tangrowth the teams primary check to rain. Giga Drain is Tangrowths main stab, dealing decent damage to neutral targets, changing rolls into Tangrowths favour. Knock Off is used with Sludge Bomb to limit the amount of Pokemon willing to switch into Tangrowth, easing prediction, but also checking Tapu Bulu, not risking damage on M.Scizor. Lastly Hp Ice is used to beat help beat Zygarde specifically but also other 4x weak Pokemon

Tapu Koko is the teams revenge killer and offensive pivot. Being a base 130 scarfer (shoutouts to ctc for the set), its not only safe to assume youre the fastest unboosted mon in the match, but also the ability to outpace boosted threats and pick them off or put them in range of M.Scizors Bulltet Punch only increasing what can potentially be stopped. Tapu Koko outpaces upto +2 adamant zygarde with its speed, meaning it can outpace 90% of the tiers speed boosting mons, even after two turns, and with Wild Charge hitting harder than Scarf Garchomps Outrage, its nothing to scoff at. Another positive for Koko is it resists both Dark and Flying, allowing it to revenge boosted Bisharps, M.Mawiles and M.Pinsirs a lot more easily. Tapu koko not only revenge kills, it forces switches gaining huge momentum for the team, giving other pokemon initiative. Scarf Koko is also usually the teams secondary wincon, with Wild Charge hitting so hard, its speed, and Latios helping to remove Ground types with Z Surf, such as Excadrill. Reducing the teams reliance on M.Scizor as a wincon is important increasing the amount of match ups the team is good against. Lastly Tapu Koko provides Electric Terrain which stops any of the team from being being put to sleep, but it also can boost Magnezones Thunderbolt, allowing Magnezone to temporarily work as a breaker. Hasty is ran over naive so Ash Greninjas Water Shuriken doesn't Ko Koko after rocks.
Usage Tips
  • Luring Heatran for Latios can sometimes be hard as you only have one shot with the Z move and unless they switched into you, they'll probably scout what attack you'll go for. So pretending that you're Scarf Latios if Tapu Koko hasn't been revealed to be Scarf is a great way of reliably hitting Heatran with your Z Surf.​
  • To Knock Off Skarmorys Shed Shell with LandorusT can be quite annoying sometimes. The best ways of luring it in is through Earthquake spam which will either force in Skarmory, but can also force in Zapdos or Clefable. Smack Down on Zapdos into rocks will almost guarantee the opponent bringing in Skarmory. Clefable will give you chances to rock up on the Protect, just becarful not to let LandorusT get toxiced or too weakened and don't reveal Knock Off.​
  • Hiding the fact that you're Scarf Koko can not only benefit Latios in luring Heatran, but can help Koko significantly too. Dugtrio won't come in if they dont think youre choice locked and you can pic off fast threats and Scarfers such a Kingdra and Greninja through suprise factor.​
  • Tapu Kokos Wild Charge + M.Scizors Bullet Punch + Stealth Rock Kos no Hp and defence Magearna 100% of the time, though Leftovers turns this into a roll of 95 - 112.5%. 0 bulk investment LandorusT is also 100% koed by Kokos Hp Ice into M.Scizors Bullet Punch​
  • The Physical defence investment on Tangrowth makes it a lot more susceptible to special attacks, most notably, it is now 2hkoed by Ash Greninja after rocks. This means the removal of hazards vs Ash Greninja teams is pretty important, though Ash Gren being locked into moves can easily be abused.​


Threat List

FlyniumZ LandorusT:
Flynium Z LandorusT doesnt have any safe switchins on the team, with Z Fly obliterating M.Scizor, Latios, LandoT and Tangrowth and Earthquake nailing the other two super effectively.

Mew:
Mew is hard for the team to break as its very fast and physically bulky, scaring M.Scizor, LandoT and Tapu Koko out with the threat of Wisp, but the special attackers of the team struggle to dent it. The best counter play is to Knock it Off and attempt to poison with Sludge Bomb. Or use Magnezone under Terrain to dent it.

Zapdos:
This only applies to max speed Zapdos, as +2 Double Edge from M.Scizor can beat the defensive sets after rocks. Fast Zapdos doesnt have a safe switch in on the team, with Latios falling to Discharge para, Koko taking a chunk and the other 4 to SE coverage. Zapdos is also very hard the the team to Ko with Wild Charge from Koko being Roost stalled and Latios not being able to touch it that much. The best way of dealing with it is through chip with Stealth Rocks and removing its Leftovers allowing Koko to beat it.

M.Latias:
M.Latias's Bolt Beam Fire set completely dunks on this team, with it koing M.Scizor after rocks 70% of the time and completely walling the rest. The only way of beating it is through chip with Rocks + Sludge Bomb or Sacrificing M.Scizor to Bug Bite it. Other sets are more manageable if not running Hp Fire, however letting M.Scizor getting significantly weakened is not great.


Conclusion

In conclusion this team was made to oppose the current meta at the time, Veil, Webs and other HO as well as the Stalls and Fat Balances consisting of Celesteela and Pex. Although the team doesn't have switch-ins for most of the tiers strongest attacks, its not designed too. Short Sharp decisive games are its forte, with M.Scizor either finishing the match or is the last Pokemon standing before a loss. The team did very well for me, letting me peak at 1729, for a player who can't usually break 1650s and was in general very fun for me to play, especially blasting through the opponents team with a boosted M.Scizor. I believe, in a better players hands the team could achieve far more. All thats left now are Calcs Replays and the Import. sup yo I'm the one that gave you a bit of advice on our server so i figured why not get a rate in this week? contrary to what i said, this team isn't bad lol it's pretty cool and your thought process with it is commendable.


so firstly, this change is one that stood out immediately to start dealing with your threatlist; choice scarf latios > z-move. i like scarf koko a lot but this change frees up what koko can do for you and you still maintain surf to dent heatran and ttar.

with scarf shifted onto latios, koko can now run the Z-Wild Charge set which helps with your weakness to mew and the lack of being locked into an electric move or u-turn helps with lando. it also helps a lot with the stall matchup that's pretty iffy right now. mega latias is also pressured more since u-turn chips it pretty hard. also lures things like magearna that give mega scizor trouble. i prefer roost > hp ice personally, but lando is really annoying for you.

defensive landorus-t works nicely here since it functions as a much better check to opposing lando and zygarde. tangrowth gets overwhelmed pretty quickly working as your only defensive pivot and this helps immensely with the defensive integrity of your team. you can opt for protect > u-turn with leftovers for longevity.

lastly, magnezone seems largely unnecessary since you don't exactly require trapping for your team to function. by making a change to heatran you gain a primary bulkier steel-type that annoys mega latias lacking reflect type and mew as well as offer another barrier against bulkier squads with the subtox set.

on a side note, I'd consider superpower on mega scizor now since toxapex is pressured pretty hard by your team with koko, tran, lando, and latios. superpower hits celesteela for heavy damage after a boost so it's on easily coming in on you anymore. hope these changes help you bro.

I've tried out the changes you suggested for the team, but ended up facing some bad problems;

Since theres no lure, Heatran is exceedingly hard to wear down for M.Scizor. With Latios losing recovery its often worn down by Heatran itself as Latios is the teams only safe switchin leading the opposing Heatran to be incredibly hard to switch into. This is further amplified by Latios being weak w/o a boosting item or Z move so often not forcing the needed switches and taking a chunk of damage. Also teams often have multiple switch-ins to latios meaning its often hard to get a single surf off the Heatran (a problem the original team faced too hence the zmove to one shot it), including Magearna, which doesn't even need AV, and giving Shift Gear Magearna a free turn is detrimental to the team, as Fightium Z beats Tran. Latios is also very pressured to defog, due to 4 of the team members being affected by spikes, but with the problem earlier, Latios doesnt force many switches and when it wants to defog is very obvious forcing it to take a chunk of health.

One change I thought of to help with the Magearna and Heatran problem was Earthquake > Sludge Bomb on Tangrowth. This helped in a lot of match ups, however Bulu being a nice pairing with Heatran nullifies this completely, losing out on both wearing down Heatran and having a solid answer to Bulu.

Another problem is Toxapex. Toxapex is usually the last mon alive on the opponents team, which means M.Scizor never swept. As theres no lure, Toxapex is free to switch in and out and stay completely healthy thanks to regenerator making it near impossible for M.Scizor to sweep if the opponent is competent. And with the Relaxed tangrowth, toxic spikes put tang in range for Ash Greninja further putting pressure on latios to defog.

To try alleviate this, i tried running Taunt > Toxic on Heatran. This was to allow Heatran to trap Toxapex but only after Tangrowth had Knocked Off its shed shell. This also turned M.Latias and other fatter mons into a threat. In the end it proved to be a very unreliable method so something else will need to be re-worked perhaps.

Lastly I have an issue with Scarf Latios in general. With the issues mentioned above, letting magearna in for free, and not being the best fire resist, and leaving the team open after Dropping a Draco (tho Scarf Koko did this with ground types, but not as big as effect). Perhaps its just because I'm not as used to the set as Koko is now my go to scarfers, but I feel Scarf Latios is the main problem atm.

However, the addition of Heatran, Defensive LandoT and Z Koko are amazing, and have put in to much work for me, with Z-Koko being so versatile! First time Ive used the set and I absolutely love it right now. The team fairs a lot better vs bulkier builds wearing down the walls that I previously couldn't with Toxic or straight up blasting past them with Z Koko which is great fun, while LandoT is really nice vs the more offensive teams, being a more reliable rocker vs them.

I(luckily) haven't played vs any of the current stalls, but am still unsure on the match up and game plan vs them, whilst my previous team was almost auto win vs them. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but before I make any changes I will be testing Vs them.

Edit: I think the edits you suggested are more suited to a Roost Knock Bp Sd M.Scizor, putting in more defesive work for the team. I'll be testing this later to see if it works any better as it might beat the spdef pex people are running whit celesteela, but I'll have to calc.
