[OVERVIEW]
Staraptor is a niche Choice Scarf user that can pose a huge threat to offensive teams. Thanks to its respectable Attack stat and powerful Reckless-boosted STAB attacks, Staraptor is surprisingly strong even without a boosting item. Staraptor's offensive capabilities are also bolstered by the low number of viable Flying-resistant Pokemon in the OU metagame. Staraptor can keep momentum in its team's favor with U-turn, allowing it to act as a decent pivot. Unfortunately, Staraptor is extremely easy to wear down due to recoil damage from Brave Bird and Double-Edge, as well as Stealth Rock. Staraptor is also extremely frail, meaning it cannot switch into the Pokemon it needs to revenge kill; this also worsens its already low survivability. Staraptor also can be kept in check with certain Pokemon typically found on offense such as Ash-Greninja and defensive Landorus-T, making Staraptor not as threatening as it seems on paper. It tends to also be outclassed by generally better Choice Scarf users such as Greninja, Kartana, and Landorus-T, as they can provide more team support, more defensive utility, or greater consistency at revenge killing Volcarona and Ash-Greninja.

Moves
========
Brave Bird is indispensable, as it is Staraptor's strongest STAB attack and is boosted by Reckless, making Staraptor very difficult to switch into. Double-Edge is an additional Reckless-boosted STAB move that is used to hit Electric-types such as Tapu Koko and Zapdos. U-turn is a great move on Staraptor, as it takes advantage of the switches Staraptor forces to gain momentum. Close Combat is the best option in the last slot to revenge kill Dragon Dance Mega Tyranitar and hit Steel-types that may try to switch into either of Staraptor's STAB moves super effectively. Final Gambit is an option in the third or last slot to deal a large amount of damage to Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Celesteela that Staraptor has trouble dealing with, but it is usually not worth using over Close Combat or U-turn.
Set Details
========
A simple EV spread of 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe with a Jolly nature and Choice Scarf is used to maximize Staraptor's offensive presence. Reckless is used over Intimidate, as Reckless provides Staraptor with a crucial power boost on Brave Bird and Double-Edge; Intimidate does not do much for Staraptor, as it is very frail.
Usage Tips
========
Unless it is necessary to do so, do not switch Staraptor into the Pokemon it needs to revenge kill, as it is extremely frail. Instead, have Staraptor come in after a sacrifice or through U-turn or Volt Switch from teammates. Try to clear entry hazards before sending Staraptor in, as Stealth Rock wears it down more quickly. Note that Brave Bird is extremely powerful even against checks like defensive Landorus-T and Assault Vest Magearna; use it freely against such switch-ins to wear them down for an easier late-game sweep. However, take care when using Brave Bird against teams with Pokemon that can use it as setup bait and against teams that have Tyranitar. Use U-turn liberally, as proper prediction with it can bring the team momentum.
Team Options
========
Magnezone is a great teammate for Staraptor, as it traps checks to Staraptor like Celesteela and Skarmory and forms a VoltTurn core with it. Staraptor will need entry hazard control to compensate for its Stealth Rock weakness; offensive hazard removers like Kartana and Tapu Koko are preferred choices. Wallbreakers such as Tapu Lele, the aforementioned Kartana, and Heatran can wear down the opposing team to ease a Staraptor sweep and appreciate Staraptor's ability to bring them in safely with U-turn. Another offensive Flying-type such as Mega Pinsir or Tornadus-T can form a great Flying-type spam core with Staraptor, allowing them to overload their checks to allow the other to sweep. Finally, Staraptor appreciates a solid defensive backbone to take hits for it. Landorus-T and Assault Vest Magearna are great choices for this role, as they are extremely bulky and can bring Staraptor in with U-turn and Volt Switch, respectively.

Other Options
=============
Choice Band is a decent option to make Staraptor a wallbreaker with the power to 2HKO Zapdos and defensive Landorus-T after Stealth Rock. However, such a set almost mandates Magnezone and Defog support, making it difficult to fit on a team.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Residual Damage**: Due to its best STAB moves being recoil attacks, its Stealth Rock weakness, and its frailty, Staraptor is extremely easy to wear down.
**Priority**: Priority from Ash-Greninja, Weavile, Mamoswine, Mega Pinsir, and Mega Scizor can OHKO or deal heavy damage to Staraptor.
**Steel-types**: Celesteela and Skarmory hard counter Staraptor, as they take pitiful damage from Staraptor's attacks and retaliate with their STAB attacks. They do need to watch out for potential Magnezone support, however. Heatran, Magearna, and Bisharp can come in on Brave Bird and threaten Staraptor with their STAB attacks. Stakataka gets a special mention here, as it has the bulk to survive even Close Combat and can use Staraptor as setup bait.
**Defensive Landorus-T**: Defensive Landorus-T can switch into Staraptor and take advantage of it by setting up Stealth Rock, gaining momentum with U-turn, or threatening Staraptor with Hidden Power Ice.
**Rock-types**: Tyranitar, Mega Tyranitar, and Mega Diancie can easily take one hit from Staraptor and OHKO it with their STAB attacks or, in Tyranitar's case, Pursuit trap it. Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar need to watch out for Close Combat, however. Choice Scarf Terrakion can also outspeed and OHKO Staraptor with Stone Edge.
**Electric-types**: If Staraptor is locked into Brave Bird, Tapu Koko, Zapdos, Magnezone, Rotom-W, Mega Manectric, and both Thundurus formes can come in and OHKO Staraptor with their STAB moves, cripple it with status moves, or use it as setup bait.
