Shiinotic makes for a good physical wall by virtue of its access to utility options in Leech Seed and Spore. Moreover, its access to reliable recovery in Strength Sap gives it its place in the tier. Its typing allows it to check prominent Pokemon such as Throh, Falinks, and Fraxure, but this may backfire on Shiinotic, since this typing also leaves it prey to Steel- and Ice-types such as Pawniard, Mawile, Glaceon, and Mr. Rime, and a 4-times weakness to the Poison-type means it can be checked by both Roselia and Mareanie. These downsides are further solidified by its poor Speed stat, allowing it to be outsped by the majority of the tier, which includes seemingly slower Pokemon such as Mareanie and Lapras. Strength Sap allows for Shiinotic to regain its health, and this especially works against the aforementioned physical attackers it already checks. Spore makes up for Shiinotic’s lack of offensive presence outside of Moonblast by putting offensive threats such as Glaceon, Mawile, and Basculin to sleep and forcing them out, but Shiinotic has to be wary of opposing Grass-types switching into it before using Spore. Leech Seed is another recovery option for Shiinotic, allowing for it to wear down its aforementioned switch-ins, but just like Spore, it has to be wary of Grass-types switching in.

Shiinotic’s best fit is on balanced teams that appreciate Shiinotic’s ability to cripple physical attackers and that also have the capability of answering Shiinotic’s checks. Entry hazard support from the likes of Crustle, Mareanie, and Pincurchin can help assist Shiinotic in wearing down foes so that it can function more easily. Because of Shiinotic’s ability to wear down both foes and walls, late-game win conditions such as No Retreat Falinks, Throh, and Klang make for good teammates. Shiinotic’s poor Speed stat also means that it appreciates teammates that can set up Trick Room, so Pokemon like Musharna are appreciated by Shiinotic. Finally, Shiinotic greatly appreciates answers to its aforementioned checks in Ice-, Steel-, and Poison-types such as Glaceon, Mr. Rime, Pawniard, Mawile, and Mareanie. Checks to Ice- and Steel-types like the aforementioned Falinks and Throh, as well as Pawniard itself, are appreciated by Shiinotic. Pawniard also appreciates Shiinotic’s ability to force out Fighting-types for it. Poison-type checks such as Musharna, Silvally-Psychic, and Stonjourner are appreciated by Shiinotic, and it can check Dark-types such as Thievul in return.
