Congratulations to the Top 8 that made it all the way to Playoffs from the Seasonals, Best of 3, and Ladder tournaments! The Top 8 will now face each other in one final tournament for the coveted PU Ribbon
!

Specific Rules:
  • This is a standard SM PU tournament.
  • This tournament will be a single elimination tournament.
  • All rounds will be best of three.
  • Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown!.
  • To encourage the development of the metagame, and so that everyone is on an even playing field, all matches must have replays recorded. If neither player posts replays of the match, regardless of whether you confirm that your opponent won, your series will be coinflipped unless you can provide replays. We will not disqualify both players, but we will coinflip the series, not because we don't believe that you played, but because the replay rule ensures everyone is on an even playing field, as stated. If you wish for your replays to stay hidden, you may PM them to me instead.
  • PU is a usage based tier. Essentially you can use anything that is not in a higher tier; NU effectively serves as the PU banlist. However, there are several Pokemon banned from PU which are not in NU or a higher tier; aka BL4.
Standard Rules and Clauses
  • Species Clause: A player cannot have two Pokemon with the same PokeDex number on his team.
  • Sleep Clause: You cannot inflict sleep upon more than one member of the opposing team.
  • Evasion Clause: The moves Double Team and Minimize are banned.
  • OHKO Clause: The moves Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, and Fissure are banned.
  • Endless Battle Clause: Anything capable of intentionally creating an endless battle is banned.
General Tournament Rules:
  • Identity: I expect many battles to be completed under alts. This can be bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.
  • Scouting: Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any blatant scouting. There is a difference between "[user] is known for using stall" and "let me follow [user] around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter. I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching. Everyone will have access to your replays from earlier rounds though.
  • Timer Clause: As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.
  • Disconnections: Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

ur my fricking predictions:

Teddeh vs HJAD: Starting off with zero commitment. I think Teddeh's mastery of his own playing style is about as unmatched as you can get in PU, which always gives him a certain edge. HJAD however is 1 - crazy and 2 - a Brit, therefore he knows Teddeh very well and is a bit more likely to get into the scummy side of building I very much enjoy

Taskr vs Xiri: STOP FIGHTING EACH OTHER. I think Taskr is better in PU, more motivated to win the thing especially with what that could mean down the line with PU out of the virtual doghouse of Smogon. Xiri is no slouch and by no means do I think he's just happy to be there, but he just recently lost to Taskr and I could see him question things a bit.

TJ vs Megazard: I think it's quite dumb to underrate TJ nowadays, and I consider his playing on about the level you'd expect for someone who had the year he had. I still tend to favour Megazard slightly for a specific reason: I think he's mad at getting matchup'd. It happened enough during the year that I think this is the one time where he'll focus hard on that, even if it means dropping his interest in the Pohjis number of Circuits he qualified for.

Ktutverde vs Pepeduce: The Pepe is a threat, but hasn't done much in PU since his big win and like Robespierre he has to right the French ship after the RU WC Revolution, with hopefully less bloody results. Ktutverde was convincing in the Tour Everyone Hates But Counts As Much Idiots, and he's one of the few users who can outmatch Pepe's tendencies for the wilderness.

Why did seeding end up making the perfect r1 match-ups.

Teddeh vs HJAD: The vintage Brit match-up. Predicting against Ted is always hard since he's proven himself as a player countless times, but HJAD is the master of jank (bad) sets and is probably the perfect person to disrupt Ted's tried and true playstyle.

Taskr vs Xiri: The grudge match between my fellow Missy brothers. Taskr won their previous set very convincingly so naturally I think it's in his favour. I feel like Xiri will have to pull out all the stops to have an edge in this set, although I do think that it's possible since Xiri has shown fairly experimental builds in the past

TJ vs Megazard: I predicted TJ to win their DiscordPL game and promised to never betray Megazard again, but i'm staying on the TJ hype train. TJ has been on fire recently and has been a rising star in PU. I feel like this will be the test to see if TJ can keep his cool in high pressure situations, and Megazard is the perfect person to test him since he's basically the father of PU.

Ktutverde vs Pepeduce: This match-up is a complete wildcard and honestly I have no idea what's going to happen but i'm giving the edge to Ktut. Pepeduce has been a lot less active since his big win whereas Ktut has become increasingly engaged in PU. Both are very capable players and are also wild when it comes to building, so i'm very excited to see AV Corsola HO vs Tentacool stall.

Predictions:

Teddeh vs HJAD: Two top PU players. Teddeh has proved himself to be an all around excellent player in whatever tier he plays, as well as having an amazing year here. HJAD has really shown that he's not afraid to bring some innovative sets and mons this year (AV crab most notably) which will help him a ton. I can't honestly give anyone the edge here and I'm hyped asf to see the set.

Taskr vs Xiri: Gonna give the edge to Taskr here, I believe he is the most clutch player in the playoffs. Obviously these two played very recently, and Taskr won. So i'm sure Xiri is seeking blood and will have a ton of motivation coming in. Gl to both!

Tj vs Megazard: Tj has had an incredible year in the circuit. Really proving that he has what it takes to beat anybody here. Though these two did play for Dpl recently and Zard won so we'll see if it happens again. I'm only giving a small advantage to Tj bcuz while he has had an amazing year, Zard has proved that he can compete at the highest level in whatever tier/meta he plays.

Ktutverde vs Pepeduce: These two have proved that they're willing to bring some interesting mons and sets at top level play. And while I would maybe give the slight edge to Ktut, I do think it'll all come down to match ups and who brings the most innovative and surprising things. Hope its a good set!

First time have ever been hyped for a tournament. I am a sappy guy and I have great respect for all of these 8 amazing players, and share a friendship with almost all of them so I will refrain from predictions. That being said TJ has been underestimated in the past by others but I have never underestimated him, I am routing for him to win it all, he deserves this, good luck friend.

Teddeh vs HJAD: is everyone really too much of a pussy to make a prediction for this one? granted it's probably the closest match of these in theory but i think hjad's greater versatility in building gives him an edge

Taskr vs Xiri: honestly no idea how good xiri is, he was ok last time i checked but that was like a year ago so, idk. i think taskr is good tho and a strong contender to win this tour

TJ vs Megazard: also pretty close i think maybe, but one of them is a tier leader with a podcast and one is not so i have reasons to kiss bippy's ass

Ktutverde vs Pepeduce: this guy beat me last time i entered a pu tour, must mean he's good. nah fr i think he's a strong player, ppl seem to give him shit for some of his opinions on the tier and tbh i used to as well before i actually had to face him but yea no i think he's a strong player. pepe's ok i guess but i don't think he stands much of a chance

yh I lost unfortunately, this was a very good series. I think in g2, the flinch balances the spe def drop which gave me much momentum in game but we can't know how this game could be end it. I can't complain about this this is the game (there was also a kind 50/50 but I chose the safest option). I just would have a better MU in g3 to product a better game.
Anyway this season was pretty cool, I didn't expect much in this tier at first but I had this immaculate performance in ssnl. I tried to defend my place in this top8 and doing my best in the follow tours (PULT and Fall ssnl).
I think PU has a lot of common points w RU that's why I like this tier more than NU or UU. See u for next season and I hope I'll do even better. Thanks to everybody who supported me during this.
