I looked over at the Kyogre analysis, saw it needed a few edits here. Timid doesn't outrun common Palkias, Scarf DOES get countered by Latias, etc...

All sets are still in here

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Water Spout
move 2: Surf / Hydro Pump
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Thunder
item: Choice Scarf
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 6 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Kyogre is most often seen as a hit and run pokemon, setting up the rain as it enters into the battle. With Choice Scarf boosting its mediocre speed, and the rain boosting Water Spout's already gargantuan base power, Kyogre earned its place as an excellent lead in the treacherous battling fields that reside in the Diamond and Pearl uber metagame. Water Spout is pure power; it can easily destroy Mewtwo and Darkrai in one hit assuming Kyogre is at full health, which is often the case if they are leads. When one wants to conserve the abysmal PP of Water Spout, or if Kyogre's HP is too low to abuse Water Spout, it has Surf or Hydro Pump as an option. Surf is more reliable, but Hydro Pump OHKOs Mewtwo and Metagross. The other three attacks are used to cover what the Water attacks don't. Thunder deals massive damage to Palkia and an opposing Kyogre, while Ice beam keeps Latios, Latias and Grass types out of the way.

Be careful not to constantly switch Kyogre into attacks, as even the smallest shots can decrease Water Spout's power. Sadly, however, there is no way to avoid taking damage from Stealth Rock, Spikes or Toxic Spikes, unless a Rapid Spinner is present, which may not even get to Spin due to the appearance of Giratina. Kyogre needs to be at 80% health or higher to keep Water Spout more powerful than Hydro Pump, or 64%+ health to keep it stronger than Surf.

Waterfall and Aqua Tail are options on this set to severely dent Blissey. To ensure that, Kyogre needs 180 Attack EVs with either Mild or Rash nature to guarantee a 2HKO on Blissey with Aqua Tail. Waterfall won't 2HKO, but its chance of flinch will keep Blissey away from it.

One has two options for the nature here: Modest, or Timid. Modest gives Kyogre extra power, but Timid allows Kyogre to outrun Naive/Hasty Deoxys-A, a Dragon Danced Adamant Rayquaza, other Modest Choice Scarf Kyogres, and Mild Choice Scarf Palkia. It all depends on what one desires for the team.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Surf
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Thunder
move 4: Water Spout
item: Choice Specs
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 Spe / 252 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Specs Kyogre is no joke; Water Spout deals 357-423 damage to a max+ special defense Blissey. In terms of percentage, it deals 50%-59.24% against a Blissey with maximum HP, something that is very rarely seen in ubers, so a 2HKO is often guaranteed. With Choice Specs, Ice Beam deals massive damage to the Lati twins, and Thunder becomes capable of OHKOing an opposing Kyogre. Palkia will now hesitate to switch in to this, since Thunder hurts it a lot.

One has two options here here. Timid lets Kyogre outspeed other Kyogres, Groudons, most Dialgas and Palkias, and some Lugias. Modest will always 2HKO Blissey with Water Spout, and increases your OHKO rate on Latios if Stealth Rock is down. It lets you OHKO Lugia a bit more often, too.

When one is running with Modest nature, it is advised to use 252 HP / 244 SpA / 24 Spe as the EV spread. Kyogre is one of the slowest ubers (not counting Wobbuffet), and speed does not help it much. 24 Speed here allows it to outrun Tyranitar and possibly some other speedless base 90 speed ubers (Groudon, Kyogre, Dialga, Giratina, Deoxys-D, Ho-oh).

[SET]
name: Calm Mind Sweeper
move 1: Surf
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Thunder
move 4: Calm Mind
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 Spe / 252 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]

From Advance with love. Kyogre is capable of smashing through teams with its ridiculously powerful double-STAB Surfs after a single Calm Mind. As powerful as it seems, however, it runs into massive problems with Blissey and the Lati twins (more specifically Latias).

Despite being one of the slowest ubers, it gets good usage out of a Timid nature, letting it tie at worst with Groudon and other non Choice Scarf Kyogre and outspeed the vast majority of Dialga and Rayquaza. It can also outrun Lugia that invest more EVs into their defenses than Speed, which is always nice.

[SET]
name: Substitute + Calm Mind
move 1: Surf
Move 2: Ice Beam / Thunder
Move 3: Substitute
Move 4: Calm Mind
item: Leftovers
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 4 Spe / 252 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]

This set destroys anyone depending on a non-Psych Up Blissey to counter Kyogre. 101 HP substitutes mean that Blissey can't break them with Seismic Toss, and Kyogre's massive Special Defense ensures that they will become unbreakable with Thunder after the second Calm Mind, and the first if Blissey doesn't carry maximum special attack. It can also wear down many things your opponent may use to attempt to counter Kyogre and allow it to Substitute and start Calm Minding against whatever their next answer is after their first gets worn down or fainted.

The difficult choice to make is Thunder or Ice Beam. Ice Beam stops Rayquaza and can hurt the Lati twins, but without Thunder you can't touch other Kyogre.

[SET]
name: Choice Bander
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Avalanche
move 4: Thunder
item: Choice Band
nature: Brave
evs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Band Kyogre is no joke. It does a great job at luring out and destroying Blissey. Brick Break is pointless, as Waterfall does more thanks to Drizzle. Avalanche is for the other common Kyogre switch-ins: Latios and Latias. It has a rather pitiful base power of 60 on the switch-in, but it's all Kyogre gets and it's still a 2HKO on both of them. Earthquake is for Dialga and because Kyogre doesn't get much in the way of physical moves. Thunder can hit other Kyogre for about 50% and "hurt" Lugia as well, but its main purpose is to let you masquerade as some other Kyogre so you can see what you'll lure out the next time you bring it in.

The EVs given let you tank special hits reasonably well with Kyogre's massive 140 Special Defense. A Speed-reducing nature can hurt, but if you reduce Special Attack you'll never hurt a thing with Thunder.

This set will run into problems against Giratina, however, who laughs at anything Choice Band Kyogre throws at it, while burning it with Will-o-Wisp and finally Dragon Clawing its face to death.

[SET]
name: Rest + Sleep Talk
move 1: Surf / Water Spout / Hydro Pump
move 2: Ice Beam / Thunder
move 3: Rest
move 4: Sleep Talk
item: Leftovers
nature: Modest
evs: 240 HP / 244 Def / 24 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Defensive tankish Kyogre. Kyogre's massive special stats allow it to take and deal decent hits without much boosting. Kyogre doesn't like Thunders off of most ubers, but can tank non-Super Effective hits extremely well. The EVs given allow Kyogre to survive a Swords Danced Earthquake from Adamant non Life Orb Groudon 100% of the time and outspeed Adamant Tyranitar as well.

Surf is the more reliable choice for a STAB move, but with Rest you can often get to use a full powered Water Spout. Hydro Pump is the middle ground between power and reliability. With Sleep Talk, the PP is usually not an issue.

Once again, the difficulty here is choosing between Ice Beam to hit the Lati twins and Rayquaza and Thunder to hit other Kyogre. Use what you feel your team needs more.

[SET]
name: Boosting Tank
move 1: Surf
move 2: Calm Mind
move 3: Rest
move 4: Sleep Talk
item: Leftovers
nature: Modest
evs: 240 HP / 244 Def / 24 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Rest/Talk Calm Mind Kyogre is no joke here. It is very similar to the previous set, with the exception of Calm Mind. Calm Mind boosts its already titanic special stats even further, and the washing everything ashore with Surf. Rest and Sleep Talk keeps Kyogre alive and free from status. With this set, Kyogre will easily beat any Blissey withou Psych Up + Thunder, and has a 50/50 chance against those that do have those moves.

This set runs into major problems against the lati twins, who resist Surf and is capable of Calm Minding alongside with Kyogre. Rayquaza is a problem as well, who, once again, resists Surf and will easily set up a Dragon Dance. It can null the rain with Air Lock to aid its switch in.

[Other Options]

Toxic allows Kyogre to destroy Shedinja, and seriously damage Latias' ability to counter it. Safeguard allows Kyogre and the rest of the team to block status moves without being forced to use Substitute. It also protects the team from Toxic Spikes. Sheer Cold gets a mention in places where OHKO moves are allowed. Roar allows Kyogre to phaze away other Calm Minders as they try Calm Minding along with it.

[EVs]

Choice Scarf: Modest or Timid with 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 6 HP when not using Waterfall or Aqua Tail. If one does want to use the physical water moves over Surf or Hydro Pump, he/she is advised to use Rash or Mild nature with 180 Atk / 216 Spe / 112 SpA gives you enough Attack to 2-3HKO Blissey with Waterfall and 2HKO with Aqua Tail. 216 Speed EVs allows you to outrun any Choice Scarf Heracross you may encounter, although you can drop down to 267 Speed (204 EVs) which beats most Deoxys-A by a single point.

Choice Specs: Maxed Special Attack and Speed. Timid. When Modest is used instead of Timid, 252 HP / 244 SpA / 24 Spe is recommended to prevent a huge waste in EVs, considering the fact that Kyogre is one of the slowest ubers.

Calm Mind Sweeper: Again, max out Special Attack and Speed with Timid Nature. Once again, if Modest is used, 252 HP / 244 SpA / 24 Spe is recommended.

Substitute + Calm Mind: Max HP is required to prevent Blissey's Seismic Toss breaking your Sub. Maxing out Special Attack is preferred, although you can focus your EVs in Speed or Defense and rely on Calm Mind for power.

Choice Band: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 SpD, Brave nature. This allows you to take a Thunder/Grass Knot from Lati@s so you have the opportunity to 2HKO with Avalanche.

Rest + Sleep Talk/Boosting Tank: 240 HP / 244 Def / 24 Spe, Modest nature. This guarantees you survive a Swords Danced Earthquake from Groudon the vast majority of the time and outrun Adamant Tyranitar.

[Opinion]

Kyogre has gotten upgraded in this generation. With Choice Scarf, it makes a great lead. With Choice Specs, it strikes fear to its nemesis, Blissey. With its massive special attack and rain, Kyogre is truly one of the most fearsome sweepers in the uber metagame. Despite the lack of movepool, the sheer power of its moves compensates for that loss. The rain it carries allow the maximizing of Palkia's power, as well as boosting the accuracy of Thunder, which may or may not be desirable. Kyogre is one of the reasons Blissey and Lati@s are forced to be used.

[Counters]

Psych Up Blissey and Lati@s are counters to all sets except the Choice Band set. These are really the only reliable Kyogre counters; Kyogre's special stats are just too high for anything else to threaten Kyogre without too much risk to itself after Kyogre gets a Calm Mind in. Lanturn also gets a special mention as it can switch in on any of Kyogre's moves and hit back with a STAB Thunder. Shedinja gets a comedy mention as well; it completely walls Kyogre unless it carries Hidden Power specifically to hit it.

Palkia easily switches in to a Choice Scarf Water Spout with its 4x resistance. In the process, Kyogre wasted 2 PPs due to Pressure. A special defense oriented Dialga can do the same to the Choice Scarf set. Giratina can be used to identify Kyogre's Choice sets. If Kyogre does not pack Ice Beam, Rayquaza will be troublesome, cutting down the rain to neutralize Kyogre's water powers and Thunder's accuracy. Grass Arceus can counter Kyogre if it avoids Ice Beam, and then strike back with a powerful Grass Knot.

I fixed a few typoes before this is into the final stage. Now, I am hardly knowledgable about ubers, but

Thunder can hit other Kyogre for about 50% and "hurt" Lugia as well, but its main purpose is to let you masquerade as some other Kyogre so you can see what you'll lure out the next time you bring it in.
Wouldn't it also serve as its best bet against Skarmory and Forretress? (and lolCloyster)

Well, Skarmory and Forretress are hardly ever switch-ins to Kyogre, but just for the purpose of getting it right, here are (rounded) calculations with CB Kyogre spread:

Skarmory takes 49% - 58% from Waterfall
Skarmory takes 99% - 116% from Thunder

Forretress takes 48% - 57% from Waterfall
Forretress takes 52% - 62% from Thunder

What it pretty much seems like to me is that neither really wants to switch into Kyogre even if it is Choice Banded and you're absolutely certain Waterfall is coming -> they both can be 2HKO'd thanks to the power of double-STAB and flinch makes things even worse.

EDIT: Does Hasty/Naive Scarf Kyogre deserve mention, or nah? There's a certain amount of coolness in being able to both deal with Blissey and outspeed just about anything, but is the overall power drop too much you think? EV Spread would be something along the lines of 180 Attack / 100 SpA / 228 Speed.

EDIT #2: Did some damage calculations, it still OHKO's Mewtwo and 2HKO's non-defensive enemy Kyogre but it doesn't do enough damage to most other threats IMO, so ditch that beyond maybe a passing mention if you feel like it.

Meh, grammar nitpick time.

The same intro sentence "____ Kyogre is no joke." is used on three different sets. Personally, I'd leave it on the Band set as the power of Specs on something with 150 base sp atk using Calm Mind or Specs would be pretty obvious, not so much for a Choice Band pokemon (in ubers) that only has 100 attack.

Boosting Tank said:

Should be "are". "With" should be deleted.

Choice Specs said:
Choice Specs Kyogre is no joke; Water Spout deals 357-423 damage to a max+ special defense Blissey. In terms of percentage, it deals 50%-59.24% against a Blissey with maximum HP
IMO, this would be better off with just the % damage calculation, having a calc for damage then one for % seems somewhat redundant.

The order of the EV's is inconsistent (on the Scarf set, Spe is listed after SpA - on Specs, Spe is before SpA).

And for two more huge nitpicks, the Scarf set uses 6 hp, while the two sets after it use 4, and Lati@s are referred to as both "lati twins" and "Lati@s". Neither matters much, they just look funny.

I think we should use "Latias and Latios" instead, to avoid confusion among newer players.

I already did change that in ADV. I'm going to touch up a bunch of analyses this month (got to earn my keep). :toast:

Wouldn't it make more sense if you just put some general footnote noting that Lati@s = Latios / Latias? It's shorter, and it's bascially what we use.

i found it odd that you didn't even wait 24 hours before committing your "revamp" to the SCMS. wait a bit.

ps, stop going off topic everyone. themantyke, i know you want to help, but you dont provide a list of that kind of shit in someone elses topic.

I think the "*x sort of Kyogre* is no joke" line which is used three times is a bit redudant, maybe use it on the Specs set, and then say something else for the CBand and CMTank version, such as "This Kyogre set may look as if it has better things to do, but it can really be useful and can surprise the opponent" or something else.
