Claydol finds its place in the PU metagame as a defensive Rapid Spin user that can be a good check to Rock- and Fighting-type Pokemon, Aggron and Lycanroc being examples for the former while Gurdurr and Hitmonchan make good examples for the latter. This means Claydol can provide good role compression to teams that Although, Claydol often finds it hard to continuously check these threats due to the lack of reliable and passive recovery. Claydol is also pretty shaky at being a good Rapid Spin user since its lack of offensive presence means that it can't threaten Ghost-type Pokemon very well, even frailer ones such as Froslass can switch in and prevent Rapid Spin relatively easily. However, Claydol is about to avoid some opposing Base 105 Defense and base 120 Special Defense may look good on paper but coupled with only 60 base HP means that Claydol isn't as bulky as it may seem at first glance and investment is very much needed to fulfil its role.
