Your favorite song?

Everyone has at least one song that they just have to dance or sing to. Whether it's from a musical, a video game, or the Radio. So, what are your favorite songs, and why?

Personally, I have 2 fav songs. #2 is Spear of Justice, from Undertale. I haven't played it yet, but this song just gets me so hyped to do... anything! It makes me wanna fight something 10X bigger than me and suplex it! Anyways, my #1 favorite song is "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. Just simply, it's my jam. I could listen to it for hours! I just have to sing it at least once a day, it's so good! It really helps me stay positive when I'm in a slump, too.
NGAHHH!! (a modification of Spear of Justice) is my super motivational Monday alarm song! I have a different song from Undertale set as my alarm for every day. Great soundtrack. You should seriously play Undertale, that song will run your blood even hotter.

Here's a list of my top eighteen favourite songs

1. Crystal Castles - Black Panther 2. capsule - Sugarless GiRL
3. Against Me! - The Ocean 4. Arcade Fire - Une Année sans Lumière
5. Tori Amos - Silent All These Years 6. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Hysteric
7. Suzanne Vega - Luka 8. きのこ帝国 - 海と花弁
9. HEARTSREVOLUTION - Switchblade 10. Vienna Teng - Recessional
11. FKA twigs - Two Weeks 12. 65daysofstatic - Retreat! Retreat!
13. Grimes - Ambrosia 14. Ann Lee - 2 Times
15. Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton - Reading in Bed 16. The Flaming Lips - Race for the Prize
17. The Cure - From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea 18. Purity Ring - Begin Again

However if you're likely to catch me singing along to anything it's probably going to be some '90s r&b song or Kylie Minogue. I play a lot of r&b and synthpop when I play rhythm games which developed the taste

edit: I forgot something

edit2: my favourite song to blast ever is no scrubs

Time by Pink Floyd is my absolute favorite song, and holds a lot of personal significance to me.

It discusses the concept of aging and time going by faster than you can measure, along with the regret of not doing everything you wanted when you had the chance. I don't get to hear this song all that often, and it's not one I typically go out of my way to find again, so every time I do rediscover it, it's a little bit later in life. It's always when I've experienced new things, have new ambitions, when I've changed as a person just a little bit. Every time, its message of life gone by hits a bit closer to home.

It's a melancholy song, but one that motivates me to always keep creating and pursuing my goals while I still can. It's a song that becomes more poignant with time, and grows along with you. If you haven't listened to this, I strongly encourage you to do so.

...Of course, if we wanna talk plain old feel-good music, my top contender has gotta be

Snow by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of those songs that's just comforting to listen to. It's helped get me through stressful times in the past, and I like to listen to it whenever I start to get flustered by work or school.

I haven't had an absolute favourite song for years now, but if I had to give one answer then at the moment it's probably Taphead by Talk Talk.

Alright I'll cave. Here's my current top 10 as it stands:

1. Paranoid Android ~ Radiohead
2. Sunkissed You're Not ~ Greenslade
3. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi ~ Radiohead
4. Roundabout ~ Yes
5. Luv(sic) Grand Finale ~ Nujabes & Shing02
6. The Mother Lode ~ Thom Yorke
7. Empire ~ Kasabian
8. My Red Hot Car ~ Squarepusher
9. Changeling ~ DJ Shadow
10. 15 Step ~ Radiohead

It probably won't stay this way for long - lately I haven't been feeling so keen on Weird Fishes (a case of listening to it too much I think) and I feel bad about putting two songs from the same album on here, let alone four Radiohead-related tunes... anyways, this is me as I currently am ^.^

I like a wide variety of music, but ill keep it to a top 5 for my favourite songs, not an easy list to make either actually incredibly hard to come up with...

1. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
2. For the Nights I can't Remember - Hedley
3. Sequoia Throne - Protest the Hero
4. House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls - The Weeknd
5. Turn The Page - Bob Seger

The first two songs hold very deep meaning with me. The first is about all of the friendships that have ended over the years and how much I miss these people, but also how much that these people have helped me grow into the person that I am today. The second song is about one person in particular. Once my best friend, my lover, and the most important person in my life at the time. It was during a very rough time for both of us that started with the loss of family members and ended in drugs, alcoholism, and maybe even a little bit of depression. We grew apart during this time, but never stopped being best friends and he, as well as this song will always hold a special place in my heart. This was obviously our song so it will always stay near the top of my list. To this day I still have a hard time listening to it without getting extremely emotional.. The other 3 hold no special meaning in particular, but they're all very good songs that I find myself being able to listen to over and over again no matter what year it is.

didn't really mean to get all emotional over a post about my favourite songs, my b

more commutes, my fav songs has changed again so soon. this time they come from pj harvey, turns out i had 200 of their songs on my ipod that i had not remembered putting there. anyway if you missed pj harvey, her first two albums were a Big Deal (like the arcade fire, the yeah yeah yeahs, the shins, sleater kinney, and so many more have clearly still not finished copying all the compositional schemes she innovated on those albums), these are 4 of my favs from them. also following her singing technique is just so chill, one of the most relaxed and easiest singers to emulate the style of.

top break up song y/n

I usually listen to music in phases, often depending on movies and television. Currently, I'm listening to both instrumental music (from the PMD series or from Wind Waker), and hip-hop/rap. At the moment Thugz Mansion (Acoustic version only) by Tupac is probably my favorite, but I find that Ice Cube's got some really good/purposeful music that addressed controversial topics (race and injustice come to mind) at the time. As far as video game music I listen to, Treasure Town from the PMD series and the File Select song from Wind Waker are favorites I like to have playing when I'm studying.

It took me a lot of time.... but I narrowed down my iTunes library to my Top 50 favorite songs (in no particular order).

Disclaimer: I took time to link every song so I hope people actually look at this list ;;

It's pretty cool to see Octahate on your list. I absolutely love Ryn's writing, she always seems to capture her emotions so well that as a listener I feel like I'm at her side listening to a personal story. Octahate does so well to convey that sense of loss and distress when it comes to break up, and the mixed bag of feeling the other side is to blame, yet you can't go on because you truly loved them.

The flip side of this can be seen in Promises. I really like this song as well, the lyrics are full of regret for poor behavior matched with her youthful yet elegant voice and damn great synths. Probably my second or third favorite song from that album.

I often listen to the same song or set of songs on repeat for around three days until I get bored of it/them and move onto the next thing. Its how I managed to almost completely exhaust 'Always Be ^O^', 'Senbonzakura', 'Fake, Fake, Psychotropic' and '1 2 Fanclub' on my vocaloid playlist and how I am starting to exhaust 'Mr. Blue Sky' atm. Its a bad habit that not even albums and playlists are solving for me, and it is annoying. Does anyone have any tips for getting out of bad habits like this?

One thing which refuses to exhaust itself, however, is 'Rolling Girl' (a vocaloid song by wowaka). I'd probably go as far as saying that its my best bet for a song to call my 'favorite,' although I wouldn't say it definitely is due to the sheer volume of music that I like, including (but not limited to) 'The Robots' (Kraftwerk), 'それわ小さなひかりのような (Sore wa Hikari Chiisana no Yōna)' (Sayuri), 'Re: Re:' (Asian Kung Fu Generation), 'Rewrite' (Asian Kung Fu Generation), 'Circle Game' (Galileo Galilei), '青い栞 (Aoi Shiori (Blue Bookmark))' (Galileo Galilee) and Kung Fu Fighting (Carl Douglas).

Hmmm, it's hard to choose. I listen to a lot of weird, freaky extreme metal, but I have a taste for the mainstream stuff, and indie/experimental/ambient music. Folk music is pretty cool too. Generally I like music that has a good balance of instrumentation, melody, and profound lyrics.

Modest Mouse is a great alternative to Metal, I think. They have a lot of influence on music today, in fact there was a hit rap single a few years ago that ripped almost all of the production from Float On, there most famous song.

As you can see, I don't mind choruses. (Inb4 fuck off poser)

I found this band after searching "Swing Metal" on YouTube, and since then I've been a big fan. I haven't found any other groups that can match them in terms of sheer outlandish weirdness.

And this, my friends, is the heaviest band you can find anywhere. That doesn't necessarily equate to quality, but the novelty makes it entertaining once in a while.

Almost forgot to mention that Bob Dylan has a tendency to be delightfully morbid.

If you guys want to hear more, I could recommend some bands, but keep in mind that I strongly enjoy music featuring ear-piercing shrieks of the damned.

(disclaimer 1: I realise the upper regions are oversaturated with progressive rock lol, just something that comes with it being the best genre. The lower regions have more variety and are therefore actually just as much fun to listen to)
(disclaimer 2: I only include songs that I actually have on my computer, because I always play this list in full after I make it, and because it just gives me a properly defined pool to work with. So yeah, I know Tubular Bells is a much better song than Roger Taylor – Future Management, but it's just not on my computer :<)

Making these lists is something I've enjoyed for a long time. It actually started out in a funny way—a long time ago, I realised I had no idea what was my favourite song, and I figured the most fun way to discover it would be by making a full top 100. My taste in music wasn't exactly varied at the time—the only two bands I really listened to were Queen (the first band I ever legimately enjoyed), the Eagles (my dad's favourite band, so it was pretty easy to get my hands on a huge chunk of their discography), and a couple miscellaneous songs. I believe the stats breakdown was something ridiculous like 44 songs by the Eagles and 42 by Queen out of the 100 lmao (come to think of it, it's also the only time Queen did not have the most songs listed). I just wanted... more music, so initially I expanded my horizons over more miscellaneous songs and a couple compilation albums, by bands like Dire Straits, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and (cringes) ABBA. My main source for new songs was an annual list of the "best" 2000 songs ever, played from Christmas to New Year's eve on our national radio, which I have been listening to for many years now and still pick up new songs from from time to time.

Something that I should point out now is that I also have this knack for long songs (as should be evident from the fact that the top 10 songs together literally take more than three hours), and initially it was really just that, "omg this song is so long I wonder what it's like". At some point I heard Telegraph Road by Dire Straits on that list on our national radio, in its full 14-minute-20-second glory, and then I wondered if it was actually the longest song in the list, so I investigated—and wow, there was actually one that was even longer, Yes's 18:44 Close to the Edge, and it was only the second time I got in touch with progressive rock. Even though I was hooked pretty much immediately, I still explored some more conventional music first—until I went to check out Genesis. Between two compilation albums, I picked the one that also included some stuff from the Gabriel era because "why not", and those songs pretty much cemented my love for progressive rock for good. I checked out Genesis's full discography, rediscovered bands like Pink Floyd and Yes, and got to know the likes of Rush, Jethro Tull, and Camel. Still explored other genres, but the main focus was prog, as evident from the list above.

Naturally, with an ever-expanding library like this, 100 songs quickly turned out to be far too narrow, so I soon switched from doing five top 100 lists per year to two top 200s and (later) two top 400s. However, the most recent one before this one is actually from December 2014—throughout 2015, I was "too busy doing other things" (guess what), and very regrettably I just couldn't find the motivation to get working on a list (one of them takes pretty much a week of pretty hard work). It's still worth doing them for playing them alone, but times sure do change...

Some of my favourites:
Whenever people ask me why I like long songs so much, I just reply "can you fit a four-minute interlude in a three-minute song?" There's really nothing that I dig more in music than being able to completely _immerse_ myself into it, and obviously there's no better opportunity for that than long, ambient interludes and slow buildups, and this song has got plenty of those, several of which are among the best I've ever heard (hence the #1 position I guess). Bonus cool points for the seagull sounds, which David Gilmour created by accident by plugging in his guitar the wrong way around lol.
It's funny, because this is one of the few Dire Straits songs for which I prefer the studio version over the live version haha (you can easily knock Brothers in Arms and Once Upon a Time in the West down about 200 places had I only had the studio version for those), but this song really doesn't need the extended jams and additional bombasticness that characterise their live work to be good :p I... actually don't really have a lot to say about it, it's just got everything, from a perfect buildup to a beautiful subject matter, excellent solos, and an amazing finale.
This song honestly outclasses Bohemian Rhapsody, seriously. It's got that same slightly bombastic theatrical feel (fun fact: both songs are too complex to be performed live properly, but whereas for Bohemian Rhapsody they could make do by literally playing the video clip on the opera part, MotBQ has never been played live for this reason), but it's a lot faster and even more all over the place.
I actually genuinely think that Supper's Ready is flawless as far as symphonic prog goes. It's incredibly apparent how every single note has been scrutinised at least three times, but it never feels overly polished, from slow but steady and perfectly executed buildups to brilliant solos and some of the best drums and keyboard playing that I've ever heard.

I also wanted to highlight this one to talk about a different Genesis song, Driving the Last Spike—though I was pretty much immediately hooked by Gabriel era Genesis, I actually checked their stuff out first for the Collins era, which I quickly found out also had spawned some nice ten-minuters (though they're still not much like their early stuff). However, because Collins era Genesis is notably more commercial than Gabriel era Genesis, at some point I grew to actively dislike that era and to outright contempt this song, which at first was my favourite from that era but I then pretty much turned into a scapegoat, as dumb as that is. Then, at one point, I heard this song on the late-night radio, and I listened to it because it was actually a ten-minute song being played on the radio without a special occasion lmao, and I then remembered that it was actually really good ~_~ Still no Supper's Ready, but let's be real, most songs aren't, and then it seems dumb to hold it against this song that Banks, Collins, and Rutherford are the ones playing it. So I guess this song in a sense taught me to be more open minded? It's a good song—no long whimsical instrumental interludes, wicked solos (think the longest instrumental section is like 30 seconds ngl), or even, like, different riffs, but very powerful and with a slow but steady and very noticeable buildup throughout the entire song.

Highlighting this one because there's a funny backstory to it—after their previous album, Aqualung, was deemed "progressive rock" and "a concept album" by the critics, their lead singer, Ian Anderson, well, disagreed, and he replied "if you guys want progressive rock and concept albums, we'll give you the mother of all progressive rock and concept albums"—and thus Thick as a Brick was born, a 44-minute single-track album that's generally denoted as folk prog and is way, way, way better than its spoofy conception would lead you to expect :) Most people prefer the first half, which contains the more clearly defined "sections", but I personally very much enjoy the second half because of its extended, very well-structured interludes. And the opening line "really don't mind if you sit this one out" is still the best one ever :3

It's not actually the longest song on the list, that honour goes to the 45:02 A Passion Play by the same band, and if you want to check out Jethro Tull's stuff, I really recommend checking out TAAB over APP, because for all its amazingness, the latter one is just... weird lol. There's quite a bunch of quirky stuff about that song that turns most people away, and it took me also about twenty listens to even begin to get it figured out and appreciate it. Don't... ask me how bored I must've been to give those initial twenty listens to a 45-minute song that I didn't even like heh, but in the end it was worth it -shrug-

Also dropping these two songs here for no real reason other than that they're two (as far as I know) lesser-known album tracks by good bands that I very much enjoy and recommend checking out and that don't actually take fifteen minutes >_>

Either way... this is also my 1500th post on the forums. I'm generally indifferent towards milestone posts and honestly think a 1,5k is a little silly, but since I've been having some trouble at Smogon paradise recently, there's a couple people I feel I have to say thank you :< So I have been looking for an excuse to do shoutouts, and given the circumstances I believe a little hypocrisy is acceptable >__>

If you feel your name should be here but isn't then you're probably right lol because I didn't want to make too much of a big deal out of this and therefore tried to limit myself to the most important ones :< will do a more comprehensive list when / if I reach 2k.

P Squared Honestly... when we first started talking, I would never have expected that'd continue for this long. Usually when I get in touch with someone, what happens is that we discuss the thing we were looking to discuss and the conversation dies down quickly afterwards... but suddenly, we were talking about literally everything (except Pokemon I guess lol), and then about everything and nothing, and I cannot say I'm getting bored of that just yet :) Even aside from how much we have in common and the emotional support, let's be real, being to ramble about One Piece trivia or the numerous parallels between language and math or rage about the incompatibility of split infinitive rules with parallelism isn't too shabby either haha. Thanks for making me feel not alone when I found out about that one thing we have in common, for introducing me to Electric Light Orchestra, Ace Attorney, and One Piece, for friendship, and for, indeed, just existing... Stay awesome forever :)

anto I'm happy I was made SFP staff... because working with friends is cool. I'm still not really sure just how we got in touch, but at some point between receiving crisp HTMLs on Battle Maison guides and somehow implementing QC checks on other people's CAP articles, it turned out that you're actually very much fun to talk to, both about the less serious and the seerious topics, and that you're one of the most friendly and non-judgmental people I know, and those people are rarer than I would like. Thanks for being down to earth and knocking sense into me when I'm overthinking things, because god knows I need it at times lol, thanks for making me feel not like a piece of shit, and thanks for being a great friend.

Spy Sometimes I cannot help but wonder if you're fully aware just what an amazing human being you are lol. I don't think I've ever thanked you properly for this, but man, you were on the lookout for me even before we had ever talked and without me even knowing, and I'm still completely clueless what I did to actually deserve that. Just... wow.. Also, you may not actually be a cool old white dude, but you sure have his wisdom, and you're just fun to talk to or watch you trying to troll the hell out of other SFP staff lmao. If there are more people like you, then the world maybe isn't so bad after all.

Tikitik you're funny :) I know we don't talk a lot, but you're super reliable and easy to work with, and with your friendliness and wit, the staff channel is just a much cooler place when you're around. Also, gotta say, you have an excellent taste in avatars, almost rivaling P Squared. If only you were a little more consistent, because exotically coloured foxes >> anime girls for sure :p

GatoDelFuego Thanks for remaining chill pretty much whatever happens and finding the time to drop dumb VMs and discuss GP leader banners between all your school work haha. Obviously we all get stressed out, but thanks for letting me be carefree when we do talk :)

cant say turskain, VaporeonIce NoCheese Cannot leave out you guys :0 thanks for still being just as amazing as 500 posts ago and teaching me how to make GP stamps and being there to watch me beat up AIs for quite a while longer than those 1024 battles hehe. I'm not only on this site to put commas in the right places, and the other half wouldn't be the same without you guys.

Jellicent you expressed interest in this list, so here you go. I just want to say that I'm happy for having such a chill boss and that it pains me to see life throw you one monkey wrench after another when you want to be here with us. Thanks for the rock history lessons, maybe you'll find something nice in my list too :)

My absolute favourite would have to be Happy by Pharrell. Love it. But almost anything by Fall Out Boy will do. Centuries tops the list there.
And I genuinely like Gangnam Style. Great song. And great user too ;)

Dont really have all time favorite songs because it always changes but this song is what I've been listening to a lot lately:

Very smooth jazzrap song, if you like Nujabes and the like you'll definitely enjoy it. Very artsy music video as well.

Maybe I'll make a top 100 list if i have time/motivation. Also curious about some of 49 's favorites :3

yeah, i'll never be able to securely pin down a singular favourite song, or even an approximate list. i could make an attempt, but it'd take hours and i'd be debating myself over the initial list for ages, so i'd rather save myself some self-inflicted grief. it's weird, but i feel as though i cannot do justice to music over such a vast passage of time by offering some definitive, singular track, since no one song ever held some greater influence over me. if anything, i feel like the tracks role in a greater body of work (usually the respective record, but sometimes the artists career as a whole) kinda sways me one way or the other. kudos to those that can, but it's just not me haha

as some kinda alternative, i can mention my favourite tracks from this year, all of which i consider to be fantastic for one reason or another.
