Sun Offense by Stratos

Introduction

Greetings and welcome to the first ever ORAS Doubles Staff RMT! This is a team created by the one and only Stratos, the artist once known as Pwnemon. A staple of the Doubles tournament scene, this team was chosen due to its incredible consistency and longevity. It has had an incredible run and its performances in high level games were, and continue to be, strong. If you've played in a major Doubles tournament, chances are you've come across this team. The team, which heavily defined how Sun teams are built in ORAS, is built around Landorus-T and defensive Mega Charizard-Y, with significant emphasis placed upon helping remove Mega Charizard-Y's checks, such as Diancie, Landorus-T, and Heatran. Kyurem-B, Wide Guard Aegislash, and Venusaur are all capable of providing that support. Aegislash provides a much needed Rock-type switch in, Venusaur is a potent threat under sun due to Chlorophyll, and Kyurem-B provides another win condition. Finally, Tailwind Zapdos acts as a reliable way of extending support to the team through speed control. Stratos's goals were to build a sun team that was solid against opposing sun checks while being able to play without Mega Charizard-Y if needed, and it accomplished both of these brilliantly.

The Team

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rock Slide
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Earthquake

Landorus-T is easily the most influential Pokemon in the Doubles metagame, whether it be in a tournament, in a ladder game, or a friendly match. This team makes use of the classic Choice Scarf set that allows Landorus-T to outrun and deal heavy damage to several of the top threats in the metagame, such as Kangaskhan, Diancie, Heatran, Charizard, and Talonflame. Intimidate and U-Turn allow Landorus-T to function well as a lead pivot. This also eases the team's matchup against Pokemon such as Kangaskhan and Diancie. Rock Slide lets Landorus check threats such as Talonflame and opposing Charizards, and the spread 30% flinch chance can always be useful. Superpower lets Landorus-T beat Kangaskhan. Earthquake is an option for sweeping teams late-game, and is also one of this team's methods for beating Heatran and Diancie. For this team, Landorus-T can function well at all moments of the game, whether it be as a lead pivot, mid-game revenge killer, or late-game sweeper.

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 248 HP / 68 Def / 84 SpA / 108 Spe
Modest Nature
- Heat Wave
- Solar Beam
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Ground]

Mega Charizard-Y, when partnered with Landorus-T, creates a very threatening offensive duo. If the opponent is ill prepared for them, the game is pretty much over as very few things are properly equipped to switch into both of them at once. This team makes use of a bulky Mega Charizard-Y set, with the EVs allowing it to always survive an Adamant Mega Kangaskhan's Return. The Speed EVs allow Mega Charizard-Y to outrun Jolly Breloom, while the rest is invested into Special Attack. Even with the reduced investment, Mega Charizard-Y still boasts a very threatening amount of power behind its attacks thanks to its sun-boosted STAB Heat Wave, letting it take large chunks out of both opposing Pokemon. Solar Beam is used to make quick work of Water-type and Ground-type Pokemon. Hidden Power Ground allows Mega Charizard-Y to beat Heatran, which is conventionally a hard counter to it.

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 176 HP / 252 SpA / 80 Spe
Modest Nature
- King's Shield
- Wide Guard
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon

Aegislash provides an additional way of dealing with Diancie. Wide Guard allows it to shield its partners from spread moves, notably protecting Mega Charizard-Y from Rock Slides and Diamond Storms, Kyurem-B from Hyper Voices, and itself and Venusaur from Heat Waves. Every member of this team is weak to some form of spread move, meaning Aegislash takes full advantage of Wide Guard in almost every game. Aegislash also provides a way of dealing with Landorus-T, as it can use Wide Guard on Earthquake or Rock Slide to force Landorus-T to switch. Weakness Policy is used to tank a hit and KO the attacker, while the speed investment allows it to outrun and KO Diancie under Tailwind.

Kyurem-Black @ Leftovers
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 108 HP / 252 SpA / 148 Spe
Modest Nature
- Protect
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Substitute

Kyurem-B provides this team with a win condition against teams that are well prepared for Mega Charizard-Y and Landorus-T. This team uses a standard Substitute Kyurem-B set. The Speed investment allows Kyurem-B to outrun Jolly Breloom, while Special Attack is maximised in order to deal as much damage as possible. Earth Power provides this team with a 3rd method of beating Heatran, and Ice Beam allows Kyurem-B to easily take down Landorus-T and Thundurus.

Venusaur @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 112 HP / 252 SpA / 144 Spe
Modest Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Protect

This is the Standard Chlorosaur, with the Speed investment allowing it to outrun Jolly Scarf Landorus-T. Special Attack is maximised, and the rest of the EVs are invested into Venusaurs bulk. Venusaur is a formidable offensive presence in the Sun with its fast Sleep move and Life-Orb boosted STAB attacks. Venusaur provides this team with another option for dealing with Diancie, and quite importantly, it does so without having to worry about Wide Guard or being outsped, like in the cases of Landorus-T and Aegislash respectively. Sleep Powder also allows Venusaur to act as a soft check to Trick Room teams by putting non-Goggles using setters to sleep to buy some time for its partners to take out the opposing team.

Zapdos @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Def / 108 SpA / 112 Spe
Modest Nature
- Roost
- Tailwind
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt

The Zapdos used on this team was, at the time of conception, unique in its build. It popularized the use of Roost on Zapdos. The choice of Rocky Helmet over the more common Sitrus Berry is also rather unorthodox. The EVs on this set allow Zapdos to take 2 spread Rock Slides from Landorus-T. The Speed investment creeps Mega Charizard-Y by 1 point, allowing Zapdos to pair with it in order to beat a Heatran behind a Substitute by breaking the Substitute with Thunderbolt, allowing Mega Charizard-Y to subsequently KO it with Hidden Power Ground. Tailwind was used as a form of speed control in order to support the whole team.

Threatlist

Blaziken can pose a significant threat to this team, as it is capable of dealing significant damage to every member of this team depending on its coverage moves. It can be worn down quite easily, however, as it relies on single target moves. It also usually does not carry a Rock-type move, meaning Mega Charizard-Y and Zapdos are able to 2HKO it with Heat Wave and Thunderbolt respectively while avoiding being KOed back.

Volcarona, especially when paired next to a Wide Guard Aegislash, can be a very tricky matchup against this team. The problem with this core is that if you allow your opponent just one turn to set up, it will be almost impossible to recover as Volcarona is capable of putting a huge dent in every Pokemon, or straight up sweeping late-game. The most important way to combat Volcarona is to keep the pressure up and not end up in a position to get set up on, such as by having Landorus-T locked into Superpower. The team's saving grace is that Aegislash stops Volcarona from spamming Heat Waves in sun with Wide Guard. If it has the uncommon Flamethrower, however, it is much more of an issue.

Much like Volcarona, Charizard-X only needs one turn to set up and steamroll this team. After one Dragon Dance, it outspeeds Scarf Landorus-T and is capable of OHKOing it with Flare Blitz. It can easily set up on Zapdos and Mega Charizard-Y, and when paired with Jirachi, Kyurem-Black and Venusaur won't be able to stop it from setting up either. The best way to handle this core is to knock out Jirachi as soon as possible and keep Mega Charizard-X from getting to +2 Speed, so that Venusaur outspeed it under Sun and either revenge kill it with Sludge Bomb if its health is low enough, or put it to sleep. Another thing you can do is wear Mega Charizard-X down with recoil by switching Landorus-T in and out to prevent it from boosting its Attack, and play mind games with Aegislash hoping that they attack when you use King's Shield. Overall, it is a very hard core to play against.

Stratos

Banned deucer.
shouts for not changing my set order.

also yeah this team gets super pwned by speed boosting fires, u could use EP hydreigon over cube if you want another fire resist, it may be a better version of the team tbh. This is what I've been using for over a year though.

Scarf cube is also a big threat to the team, not on the level of speed boosting fires but the next hardest thing to handle. And Trick Room can be difficult. Other things to look out for are Talonflame, Bisharp, Diancie, Heatran, other Zard Y. This team beat shaian when he was usin all of talon/bisharp/diancie and got up stealth rock tho so they're definitely not unplayable. Thanks for doing this rmt shay =)

edit: FUCK whoever said this team couldnt be named "BIG TITTIES". Look, heres a post from 2015 showing it was named BIG TITTIES even back then
