SM Ubers Analysis Index - Writeups Edition

SM Ubers Analysis Index - Writeups Edition
Time for a rerun! Now that everything on the Smogon Dex has a preliminary skeleton, its time to really get things on the road. I said back during the skeleton stage that we would move onto 'writeups', and that time is now. The format is unchanged from last year, so for those who are familar with the ORAS C&C process, this is the exact same thing. So what changes from our skeleton stage?

1) Now that the metagame has had sufficient time to settle, and the high level games have given insights into optimal sets and spreads, we can put the maximum amount of quality into these analyses. Expect the QC members to be stricter on the quality of the content and in their overall checks.

2) For the first two QC checks, the writer follows the same process as we did previously, with a skeleton outlining the details that will be present in the writeup. After two QC checks, the writer is then able to change all of the bullet points into formal writing. The third QC check will be assessing the content of the writing, to ensure everything was covered sufficiently.

3) There are two GP checks, not one.

The C&C Process

This section of the index is pretty much the same as the skeleton stage, but the format has changed!

First of all, you must have the time and dedication to see these analyses through to the end, as they can take time and most importantly, effort. Being able to take the advice and/or criticism of the QC team in a respectful manner is also something you will be expected to have.

C&C (Contributions & Corrections) now follows the process outined below:
  • Reserve an analysis by posting in this thread, checking that the Pokemon in question hasn't been reserved already by checking the reservation list and posts before your own.
  • You now have 3 days to get a skeleton up, running, and able to be reviewed by the QC team. Failure to reach this deadline without any explanation to the C&C leaders is very likely to result in a reassignment.
  • After 2 QC checks, you must now turn the bullet points into formal writing. The 3rd QC check will only come after the skeleton is written up.
  • After the 3rd QC check, the skeleton will go through the GP process twice. After that, it's ready to go on site!
Pre-writeup skeletons still use this format. You should fill the gaps with information in bullet points, making sure the information you are adding is relevant to the Pokemon, and the section of the skeleton in relation to the Pokemon. If you are unsure on the formatting, keep an eye out for badgeholders reserving the skeletons - they are expected to know the drill and you can take inspiration from them.

Oh, and one other thing I wanna make absolutely clear:

Plagiarism (taking work from previous analyses as your own) is a severe offense in this subforum, and will result in immediate reassignment and a harsh infraction. You have been warned.

The QC Team

Below is our list of Ubers QC (Quality Control) members. The QC team is a handpicked selection of players by the C&C moderators shown to have a good grasp and understanding of the Ubers metagame, as well as the C&C process. Activity is also highly valued in QC members as they are what keep this forum pushing onwards. The role of the QC team is to assess and offer advice/critcism, but more importantly, give QC checks to analyses in progress. If you wish to become a QC member, show your knowledge and activity in both this forum and the main Ubers forum and you might well be invited to join us.

If your skeleton/analysis has been sitting around without any progress, feel free to directly annoy the QC team via the Ubers Discord at https://discord.gg/Ybycvrw. All QC are encouraged to be active on this platform, and they have a specific role group that they can be tagged by: "@QC".

Reservation Rules

The more important Pokemon in Ubers C&C will have Badgeholder (BH) restrictions in order to maintain a higher level of quality and ensure they are in reliable hands. The QC team also have the power to give non-badgeholders the ability to reserve these Pokemon if they believe that the required quality/knowledge from a user is acceptable, regardless of whether or not they have a badge. Generally these cases are rare and require the user to have good knowledge of the C&C process beforehand.

Here are the general "Rules of Reservation". There have been changes since the skeleton stage!

  • Non-badgeholders can take up to two analyses. Badgeholders and QC members can take up to 3, potentially more if approved by the Ubers C&C leaders.
  • If you have had an analysis reassigned for quality concerns, you will be restricted to 1 until an analysis has been successfully uploaded.
  • Users can take more analyses once one of their reserved analyses are completed or are in the GP process.
  • This thread is the only place to reserve analyses. If a QC member has given you the approval to take a skeleton on a different platform (Discord/PS), make sure to specify that in your post.
  • Keep an eye out for posts in front of you before reserving - the reservation list may not be completely updated as we have a large influx of things flying around.
  • Do NOT edit your posts in this thread. Double posting is acceptable here if you wish to change your reservation or drop it.
  • If a non-Uber Pokemon is not on the reservation list and you strongly believe it deserves an Ubers analysis, you are welcome to contact the QC team on Discord and it can be addressed.
  • Do not reserve skeletons/analyses if you do not have extensive knowledge and experience with the Pokemon at hand and the metagame. If either of these issues become evident, the analysis may (and probably will) be reassigned.

Analysis Thread Tag Information

Threads posted in this forum can also be equipped with tags, which should be used to indicate at a glance where in the C&C process your analysis or skeleton currently is. Here is the general idea of what to use, and when:

WIP - This tag should be used just after reserving an analysis. Posting empty threads with this tag is ok, but remember you only have 3 days to fill it with QC-ready information!

Quality Control - This tag should be used to indicate that your analysis is ready to be checked by the QC team. If the analysis is a revamp, or just one set addition over a full revamp, specify that in the title of the thread. Here are some examples:

Groudon - QC 0/3
Groudon (Mixed Rock Polish)* - QC 0/3
Groudon (written)** - QC 2/3

* This indicates the set name and therefore that the thread will only contain one set, without anything else. An analysis for something like a niche pokemon with one set does not require this, as such an analysis will still require things like an Overview and Checks & Counters.

**This indicates that the analysis has had its writeup completed and is ready for a third QC check.

Copyediting - This tag indicates that you have reached (and implemented) all 3 QC checks required, and the analysis is ready to be assessed by the Grammar and Prose team. They will take care of any grammar issues and pretty it up for reading purposes on the dex. Make sure to proof read and minimize any errors before posting it in the GP queue to save both you and the GP team some work! The skeleton will be ready to be uploaded after 2 GP checks.

Done - This indicates that the analysis is completely finished and ready to be uploaded to the site by the C&C moderators.

Reservation List - Note that all Pokemon that are Ubers by tiering require an analysis, no matter their viability. Pokemon not Ubers by tiering and not on the reservation list require QC approval to have an analysis started as noted earlier. Remember - the (BH) tag means it can only be reserved by badgeholders or otherwise approved writers!

Rejected Pokemon
These Pokemon have already been rejected by the QC team. If you believe that a Pokemon deserves another chance at an analysis, contact the C&C Leaders or the QC team with your reasoning. Pokemon that have been recently rejected are very unlikely to see a new attempt unless -something- in the metagame has played directly into its favor.

Any questions or concerns can be freely directed at the QC team or the leaders of this forum (myself or Fireburn), otherwise feel free to start reserving!

Regarding Blaziken:

With Blazikenite supposedly arriving in early May, Blaziken's analysis will not be able to be reserved until Blazikenite is available. It currently has a skeleton on the dex that sufficiently covers its role in SM for the time being, and doing a writeup for it now can lead to wasted effort on the writer and the QC/GP teams.

Ahhhhhh... I wanted Toxapex, but don't know how to do a skeleton
This thread will likely help you out - the index (first post) also has more details. To answer the (now deleted) posts, Toxapex is unreserved and open if you wish to take it, but I personally recommend going over the resources available to make sure you make the right calls.

I guess I'll reserve Aegislash and Mewtwo again as well as Mega Scizor.

Edit: I'm fine with doing both Mewtwo formes.
