Scizor (OU Revamp)

So I'll just throw up a brief skeleton plus the Bulky SD set here. Will add more as I go on.

[Set Comments]
Quite possibly the most dangerous lategame sweeper in the OU tier, this Scizor aims to use its good mixed bulk to set up Swords Dance lategame before sweeping. Bullet Punch is your main offensive move, getting the jump on faster foes that would normally impede your sweep, while hitting most other mons fairly hard at +2. Swords Dance is your set-up move, which really needs no explanation. Roost is really important as it keeps you from getting worn down while setting up while helping you to take on a variety of Physical and Special Attackers. Lastly is your secondary STAB, Bug Bite or U-Turn, both of which can have merit depending on your team. Bug Bite, thanks to Technician, hits a lot harder in general, which can be crucial if you want to break bulky teams, but U-Turn's ability to grab momentum against more offensive teams, especially against attackers like Gyarados or Rotom-W that would otherwise ruin your sweep, is also quite appealing.

The EVs are fairly straightforward, 44 Atk with an Adamant Nature gives you the crucial OHKO on uninvested Tyranitar. The rest of them are dumped into HP for overall survivability and SpDef for the ability to set up on a wider range of attackers (as while Scizor’s Defense is solid without investment, its SpDef can be quite lackluster.) The SpDef is particularly crucial as it allows Scizor to act as a pseudo-check to Life Orb Starmie and Offensive Gengar.

[Additional Comments]
If you want you can cut SpD in favour of Defense to handle Physical Attackers better. 80 Defense EVs means you can tank hits from a variety of troubling mons such as Gyarados, Kingdra, Tyranitar, Flygon and Metagross. Keep in mind though, that this makes you much weaker against Special Attackers like LO Starmie and Gengar, which makes it a team - specific choice.
Superpower and/or Brick Break is an option over Bug Bite if you dislike Skarmory and want to try and remove Heatran, while also keeping stuff like Empoleon and Magnezone from walling you. If doing so then paralysis support helps so you don't necessarily have to hit Heatran on the switchin.
Iron Plate is an alternative item if you want more power coming off your BPs, and can also bluff a choice item to facilitate setup better. However the loss of Leftovers can hurt you in certain matchups, as you will miss that tiny health refill.
SD Scizor appreciates a partner that can weaken or outright remove Skarmory, Heatran and Rotom-A. Mixed Tyranitar, Shuca Heatran and Specs Zapdos, three of the metagame s top picks overall, are good choices for this (MixTar and Tran can also set up Rocks to pressure Gyarados and opposing Zapdos, which can annoy Scizor).
If running a more hyper offensive build Magnezone makes a good partner, as it can trap Skarm+Choiced Heatran, while SDZor tends to fit in well on the type of Offenses one would use Mag on (like DragMag teams).
Despite having Roost this set can get annoyed by Hazards some times, especially if the opponent can get up one or more layers of Spikes. Starmie is the best spinner in the tier and can support Scizor in a variety of ways: it checks Infernape, Heatran and Gyarados with ease, beats Skarmory 1 on 1, and can lure in Rotom-A trying to spinblock and weaken it with Hydro Pump. Type synergy helps a ton as well.

Despite having Bullet Punch to overcome his low Speed, Scizor can often find himself requiring more Speed than the Choice Band set provides. This is most notable against Pokemon such as Starmie, Gengar, and Rotom, all of whom have a chance to OHKO you before you can U-turn or Pursuit them. With a Choice Scarf equipped, Scizor is able to outspeed all of the aforementioned Pokemon and OHKO them with the appropriate move. Having such a fast and powerful U-turn also makes Choice Scarf Scizor an effective scout, able to avoid taking damage should the opponent refuse to switch.

This set may not hit with the power of Choice Band, but it does not attempt to overpower the opponent like the Choice Band set does. Rather, Scizor is scouting the early-game with a fast U-turn before coming back in on a revenge kill to put someone into a checkmate position with Pursuit or Bullet Punch. This set's boosted Speed stat additionally allows it to check threats such as Swords Dance Lucario and non-Choice Scarf Heatran in desperate times.

The given EVs allow it to outspeed positive-nature base 120 Speed Pokemon, which is all Scizor needs. Only 216 Speed EVs are need to beat Starmie, if you'd like to give Scizor a little extra bulk. Bullet Punch is the main option as this allows you to nab some damage on the likes of Mach Punch Breloom and Infernape, Ice Shard Mamoswine, or Extreme Speed Dragonite and Lucario, while Iron Head can be used instead for more power if such priority is not a concern. Night Slash is an option for hitting defensive Rotom-A as is Aerial Ace for hitting Breloom, Infernape, and Machamp. Even if you are running Iron Head over Bullet Punch, Technician is still the ability to use, since the power of Scizor's Pursuit rivals that of Choice Scarf Tyranitar's, which is especially important if your opponent does not switch.

[Additional Comments]
Since this set can take out Starmie and Rotom-A with ease, having partners who can sweep with these Pokemon removed is recommended. Heatran, Gyarados, and Dragonite make good partners, since they can switch in on the Fire-type moves aimed at Scizor. Gyarados, in particular, enjoys having Rotom-A removed from the picture. Alternatively, Swampert and Suicune make good choices since they can switch in on Fire-type moves and force the opponent out. Tyranitar earns a special mention since Scizor and Tyranitar have good synergy, and Scizor can U-turn to Tyranitar whose Pursuit can finish off the Rotom-A and Gengar weakened by Scizor. Since the loss of power from Choice Band means that Scizor won't be hitting as hard, bulky walls such as Skarmory, Swampert, and Suicune can often wall it. In the case of Suicune and Skarmory, they can often recover off the damage from Scizor's U-turn or Superpower, although with U-turn you can always switch to a counter without Scizor taking damage. It is good to have high-powered Electric-type attacks to help deal with these threats. Good Pokemon for the job include Jolteon and your own Rotom-A.

Choice Band Scizor's massive 591 Attack, combined with STAB U-turn and priority in the form of Technician-boosted Bullet Punch, makes it one of the best revenge killers and scouts in the metagame. Add in it's decent defenses and it becomes clear why this mon is so effective after so many years.

Bullet Punch is the crux of its set. After STAB and the Technician boost, it sports 90 Base Power, which allows it to pick off many a weakened sweeper. Bullet Punch 2HKOes 4/0 Dragonite, and can OHKO Gengar after SR as well. U-turn hits incredibly hard after STAB and allows Scizor to scout for its counters and bring in a counter of your own. Superpower allows Scizor to OHKO two of its most common checks, Magnezone and Heatran, as they switch in, while also being your best answer to opposing Scizor. For the final slot, Pursuit can allow Scizor to pick off opposing Choiced Rotom-A and Gengar locked into resisted moves. On the other hand, Quick Attack provides Scizor with the ability to revenge weakened Zapdos, Gyarados, or Kingdra more effectively. Night Slash is also acceptable to hit Rotom-A on the switch, but U-turning to a suitable counter is often just as effective. The EVs are straightforward, running maximum offensive firepower along with a sizeable amount of bulk.

[Additional Comments]
Stealth Rock is Scizor's best friend, as it allows Scizor to revenge kill Pokemon such as Dragonite and Gengar much more easily. It also allows Scizor's team to take maximum advantage of the switches that U-turn commonly induces. Once Stealth Rock is up, the best teammates for Scizor are Pokemon who can switch into its common counters and either eliminate them or force them out. Tyranitar can eliminate opposing Rotom-A, as well as covering opposing Heatran and Zapdos. Heatran can absorb Will-O-Wisp from Rotom or Heat Wave from Zapdos, and possibly lure and Explode on bulky Water-types such as Suicune, Vaporeon, and Swampert. For a more offensive option, effective teammates include frail sweepers such as Gengar and Infernape that can take advantage of free switches scouted by U-turn.

Packing a Rapid Spinner can also be advantageous when using Choice Band Scizor, as Stealth Rock and Spikes can prove to be a nightmare for Scizor, which can find itself switching in often. Starmie is the best spinner to pair with Scizor, as it resists Fire and has access to instant recovery. Meanwhile, if Scizor can eliminate Blissey with Pursuit, Starmie is capable of sweeping late-game. Forretress can also function well, as it reinforces Scizor's resistances and can also provide Spikes support to take advantage of the switches caused by Scizor's power. However, be cautious of doubling up on Fire weaknesses, since Forretress and Scizor have the same typing.

While the Bulky SD set is meant to be more of a glue mon for a team, this Scizor is meant to sweep and nothing else. Swords Dance combines with Bullet Punch to give Scizor massive damage potential alongside powerful priority, hitting harder than Swords Dance Lucario's Extremespeed.

Brick Break is the preferred move here, as after a Swords Dance boost, it has all the power needed to OHKO troublesome Pokemon such as Heatran and Magnezone. However, Superpower is always an option to nail these Pokemon on the switch and also deals significantly more damage to Skarmory. Superpower is capable of 2HKOing a non-roosting Skarmory after Swords Dance, however it compromises Scizor's SD boosts and its ability to take Physical Attacks. The last move is used mostly for utility. Bug Bite is a STAB boosted by Technician, and it is Scizor's strongest attack for eliminating opponents such as Swampert, Suicune, and Vaporeon. Roost plays alongside Scizor's natural bulk and resistances and can allow it to heal and set up on Pokemon such as Forretress or non-Surf MixPert. Finally, Quick Attack gives Scizor a priority option against Gyarados, Kingdra, Starmie, and Zapdos.

Life Orb is the preferred item due to the boost in power that it provides, but Leftovers can allow Scizor to passively heal off damage, making it easier to set up or sweep after setting up on a resisted attack. Iron Plate can be acceptable to bluff a Choice item and boost the power of Bullet Punch, but the loss of power on Scizor's coverage moves can be an issue. Since this Scizor runs a more offensive set, a simple max Attack / max Speed spread is preferred. If using Leftovers or Metal Coat alongside Roost, an alternate spread of 212 HP / 252 Atk / 44 Spe can be used. 44 Speed reaches a total of 177 Speed, which outspeeds zero Speed Skarmory and any other base 70 Pokemon with no investment. More can be used to beat faster variants, such as the common 16 Speed Skarmory.

[Additional Comments]
Quicker Water-types such as Starmie or offensive Suicune can cause problems for this set, as well as Rotom, faster Heatran, and Zapdos. Heatran can lure and Explode on the first set of counters while directly countering the second set, and as such makes an excellent teammate for Scizor. Tyranitar variants also do well, as they can eliminate Rotom-A and Zapdos while easily switching into Heatran. It can also wear down Swampert and Suicune, which often switch into Tyranitar. Choice Band Gyarados makes an especially effective ally for this Scizor, as it can lure and eliminate many counters, especially Rotom-A and Starmie. It also easily 3HKOes Suicune with Earthquake and does plenty of damage to Swampert and Vaporeon.

Other Options:
Night Slash is an option on all sets, as mentioned before, to club Rotom-A, but it is an inferior option overall. Aerial Ace can be used on the Scarf set to nail Fighting types.
Though inferior to Gliscor (due to the former's access to Taunt), Scizor can Baton Pass boosts such as Agility and Swords Dance to teammates who can sweep, such as Metagross. It's solid bulk and solitary weakness make it easy to grab these boosts, while it can usually BP out of a counter like Heatran or Zapdos who expect it to switch (and it does).

Checks and Counters: (just a quick Brain dump)
Rotom-A is probably the best check, as it fears nothing but Pursuit (if choice locked), or the rare Night Slash. Zapdos, Gyarados, Heatran and Magnezone also all laugh at Scizor's STABs, though Heatran and Magnezone fear Superpower, and switch-in with impunity, keep in mind though, that Scizor will frequently U-Turn out into a counter.
Skarmory walls almost all Scizor, barring one with SD and a fighting move, however it is easy to force out or Trap with Magnezone.
Infernape revenges all variants (assuming it's healthy and the Scarf set is not locked into Superpower), however it does get worn down and thus more prone to being Bullet Punched off its feet.

Yeah I kinda just threw up something quick to reserve this. I will make the final version look good though!

try following the skeleton format from my skarmory analysis before we approve it for writing, makes it easier to change stuff

by the way, bulky sd spread probably should be 248 hp / 44 atk / 216 spdef adamant
 
I added the skeleton format to the Bulky SD set. Also put in set order though I don't really think the sets themselves need a fix.

However I would like to keep the EV spread I got, the team is old but the spread is still ridiculously effective and useful in all sorts of scenarios. I did mention you could run more SpD in additional options.

bulky sd scizor needs all the bulk it can get so it can tank lo gengar, leftovers starmie, and every other special attacker that hit it for neutral at best because scizor is not bulky at all on the special side. your spread has a much bigger chance of being 2hkoed by lo gar focus blast and you don't ohko back with bullet punch. you also are killed by lefties starmie nearly half the time in 2 hydro pumps, whereas 248 / 216 is only 2hko'd 0.4% of times. the speed is pretty much useless, no one uses vaporeon anymore and the set creeping itself is not allowed in c&c. also what's the point of ohkoing infernape at +6? no one who has an infernape is gonna let bulky sd scizor get 3 swords dances. 44+ lets you 2hko 0/0 ttar which is all you need

slash u-turn with bug bite, it works great on offensive teams since this scizor's lack of coverage could turn it into a momentum drain. sometimes this scizor's role is not always to sweep but make sure your offense squad doesn't autolose to something like gengar and this makes it a perfect fit. also I guess metal coat could be mentioned somewhere (bluffzor is alright)

bulky sd scizor doesn't care all that much for scarf rotoms (unless they're heat, but that's rarer than wash), it's mostly the bold ones it's afraid of, so make sure to mention that. mention magnezone as a partner for eliminating skarm, u-turn sd fits especially well on mag offenses. shuca tran is also a good partner because it baits scarftran and some other sets, and can switch into wisp / overheat rotoms and do lots of damage. it also lures in stuff sciz doesn't care about like bulky starmie so it can set up more easily. also sets up rocks to wear down zapdos

yeah I agree the bulk is very necessary, I was a big fan of eggbert's team when it came out and think it's one of the defining sd zor squads but the evs aren't exactly Optimal. I actually don't think you need much attack, if any at all; I've been running 0 atk adamant for a while and have not noticed a difference. I threw some in defense and it was nice for things like various earthquakes, ttar stone edges, gyara waterfalls, cb outrages, luke cc. however tbh as long as you're jacked in the spdef department you're fine. the only time I would consider using a decent amount of attack investment is when you have superpower/brick break and you need to hit a certain threshold for heatran (mention that if using a fighting attack paralysis support is nice so you don't have to predict the switch). bp/bug move don't really have anything nearly that urgent they need to do. I'll do some calcs but for now rachee's spread is fine

u-turn is really good because you can keep momentum early-game when your counters are still alive as well as chunk things with a +2 one if they try to get a hazard in before switching (for example, phil vs. pana). in most cases lategame you can just grab multiple boosts and bullet punch everything if you don't want to switch out after attacking (think vs. like agiligross or subroost zapdos). you can't really go wrong with bug bite though and it's better if you're using it to fight an offensive cune or superachi 1v1. u-turn's more of a luxury, it's a very nice one but you can't really go wrong with the last slot.

ttar is a good partner bc it can trap rotoms (even scarf ones can annoy scizor with potential trick and specs tbolt hurts), wall heatran/zapdos (worth noting btw that sciz beats non-heat wave/specs/roar zap [and unless it's had a ton of roosts wasted by lots of spikes, it'll win in a lastmon situation]) and lure skarm with fire blast. specs/magnet zapdos eats skarm and puts massive dents into heatran. starmie checks tran/ape, usually isn't a bad skarm switch and helps deal with spikes.
 
I like the spread I put more but for what it's worth I'll use Jirachee's, will cut some SpDef to boost Defense for Gyara Tar etc. Mentioned Fighting Move+U-Turn but I'll move them into slash. I mentioned all BKC's partners (MixTar, Star, Zapper) in additional comments but will add Magnezone+a few others later. Will also get Scarf up soon and the others in a bit.

Edit: Anything else I need to know before writing up the final version?

Defense allows you to dodge the 3HKO from ResTalk Gyara's Waterfall.
u avoid that just with 248 hp anyways:

0 Atk Gyarados Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Scizor: 105-124 (30.6 - 36.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Gyarados Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 12 Def Scizor: 103-123 (30 - 35.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

i haven't made a big bunch of calcs but 12 def doesn't help much (tar se still can 2hko, eq scarfgon is 3hko regardless, etc.)

i would just put back those in sdef imo, but what i would mention in set details is running 248 hp / 80 def, it drops ur special bulk significantly, but ive been running that on some teams that needed a bit more reinforce vs physicals, some examples:

- se tar has 0.4 chance of 2hko (no rocks)
- adamant eq gon is a 3hko even after sr (which has like 60%~ to 2hko wth 248/0)
- survives explosion from metagross at full health (not lo ones) and takes a lot better zong one (even after 2 rounds of sr)
- +1 160+ wfall kingdra (chestorest) is a 3hko
- guarantee survives +2 scor after sr

these are some examples, i don't know if there is better spread, but in general i think def investment is quite useful in a lot situations so i would mention it

and i would mention speed is cool in scizor vs scizor but i am not sure if u're allowed to mention that stuff on analysis

This getting worked on still?

When the rest eventually is added, for the set order, put this second after CB. I think CB is still the overall best, though Bulky SD is catching up with the way the meta is right now for sure. Absolutely shitty to face late game if you've lost your guys with Fire moves and are left with moves that can't 2HKO. You can manage the LO set usually because of residual damage and no Roost.
 
Honestly I think that they're just about the same level, however I've been told in no ambiguous terms to put Bulky SD first, sry.

Also this has been ongoing, I'm just in the middle of a move which has meant this project has been dormant. With that said, tagging BKC and Jirachee cause the Bulky SD set analysis is done.
