Ponyta @ Berry Juice
Ability: Flash Fire
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 76 Def / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Wild Charge
- Flame Charge
- High Horsepower

Thanks to its Speed, powerful Flare Blitz, and vast coverage, Ponyta is a notable offensive threat in LC. It is difficult to check Ponyta, as Flame Charge turns it into an effective sweeper and makes it unable to be trapped by non-Choice Scarf Diglett. Wild Charge demolishes Water-type switch-ins like Staryu and Mareanie, and High Horsepower KOes opposing Ponyta and Fire-types like Vulpix. Ponyta's defensive utility is also outstanding, with its Fire typing letting it be a soft check to the prevalent Grookey and Flash Fire making it a counter to sun teams. Berry Juice complements Ponyta well, allowing it to quickly deal serious damage to defensive cores and heal back to full HP from the recoil from Flare Blitz and Wild Charge. Grass-types like Grookey, Ferroseed, and Foongus are great partners, checking Water-types like Staryu and Frillish. Grookey's Grassy Terrain also reduces the effectiveness of trappers, Ferroseed's entry hazards weaken foes into Ponyta's KO range, and Foongus's Spore cripples bulky foes like Koffing. Pairing Ponyta with trappers such as Trapinch and Diglett can be effective to remove opposing trappers while also providing a way to handle foes like Mareanie.

and Frillish,
Too much of a risk for Ponyta for the damage output, let's make this Mareanie.

High Horsepower KOes Mareanie and opposing Fire-types like Vulpix
Let's make this Mareanie mention opposing Ponyta, it fits a lot more with what HH does anyway.

checking Water-types like Staryu and Mareanie
Let's make this Mareanie mention Frillish

as they can counter-trap opposing trappers while also being able to remove foes like Mareanie situationally.
A bit of a difficult concept for readability. Can we reword this somehow?

This article talks a lot about other pokemon and not so much about Ponyta. We don't really need so much on the Grass-types when we can talk a bit more about how this set can do lots of damage quickly and recover with Berry Juice. Can we put in a line about what the set does, I know we mentioned that it speeds itself up with Flame Charge but that should be an afterthought. Maybe something like, Flame Charge turns Ponyta from a wallbreaker into a sweeper with its ability to outspeed...

Would like to see those changes before I QC this.

Edit: QC 1/1
