Metagame Mergemons

Hey guys,
I've considered my options about Shell Smash. I'm going to put it to a vote, since there hasn't been nearly enough play to get together a super-informed council. So I'm leaving it to the PEOPLE!

Edit: POLL IS CLOSED

Considering the absolute power creep of this tier it's a bit irrelevant, but Mega sceptile gets good coverage options and two pretty good boosting moves, so here we go

as you may guess things like heatran, tapu fini, koko and ferrothorn get absolutely demolished. Only problem is that without dragon pulse you can't touch dragons lol

Unfortunately, Mega Sceptile is unreleased, and almost certainly will not be for a long time, so this isn't actually relevant.

Your team was rejected for the following reasons: - Poor Posture (Kyurem-Black) can't learn Close Combat.
I'm confused... (Kyurem should get CC from Keldeo, right?)

The Immortal not everything might have been fixed
Kyurem-Black is between Kyurem and Kyurem-White in the PS! dex. There's no bug. I think I can easily make it so that all three Kyurems would merge with Keldeo/Meloetta if that's what you want.

Here is a cool set.

Ursaring @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Facade
- Close Combat
- Knock Off

Ursaring is between Heracross and Magcargo, giving it access to Shell Smash and Knock Off. Jolly nature gives it 458 speed after a smash which can outspeed everything without boosts, and you don't need adamant because you hit like a nuke anyways. Fire Punch is an option for Skarm and Cele but you don't really need it that much. Play Rough can kill Mega Sab when it gets released but for now Knock kills all ghosts. It is weak to priority and scarfers because it gets worn down kinda fast but it is a sweeper that can destroy bulky teams and find some use against offense.

+1 252 Atk Guts Ursaring Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Landorus-Therian: 397-468 (103.9 - 122.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Guts Ursaring Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 112 Def Sableye-Mega: 160-189 (52.6 - 62.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 Atk Guts Ursaring Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 222-262 (66.4 - 78.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Guts Ursaring Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 195-229 (58.3 - 68.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Guts Ursaring Facade (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 274-324 (69.5 - 82.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Guts Ursaring Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Sableye-Mega: 362-428 (119 - 140.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

yeah that's exactly what we would want (although kyurem is in between landorus and keldeo btw). while you're at it is there a way to do that with all similar alt forms?

I haven't seen much activity here, so I decided to list a few important mons that get reliable recovery, because why not

Charizard: Or better saying, Mega Charizard Y. It already has recovery in Roost, but what really makes it shine here is the Drought+Synthesis combo

Blastoise: Recovery alone is good, because it's bulky, but it's more relevant as now it gets Quiver Dance from Butterfree (Roost)

Tentacruel: Synthesis is only semi-reliable, but it's enough to work on Tentacruel, with it's Bulk + Scald + Not Bad Typing

Snorlax: Fat mon with good offensive presence and reliable Roost recovery. No longer relies on RestTalk

Azumarill: Again, Synthesis is only semi-reliable, but can bring you all the way back after the Belly Drum

Forretress: Forretress is that annoying hazard Setter and Remover, now with Roost

Steelix: (And the whenever released mega) Can finally fit it's role as a bulky mon. Recovery was always something it needed (Roost)

Shuckle: Still has low HP but now is much more annoying. It can Roost for days now.

Raikou: Can finally use Calm Mind set better now. (Soft-Boiled)

Tyranitar: Self explainatory (Recover)

Gardevoir: Calm Mind sets work, but you'd better wait for the mega. (Roost)

Shedinja: Yeeeeee
Aggron: More for the mega, but gets Recover

Zangoose: Well, getting that HP back you lost due to Toxic Orb/Boost is nice (Roost)

Metagross: (And mega) Oooh boy. Also, gets Dragon Dance. (Roost)

Lucario: Can now set up without having to worry as much about damage taken (Slack Off)

Drapion: Good typing and defensive spread (Roost)

Mamoswine: Standard already is able to take a few hits, so with Roost it can be more bulky

Regigigas: Well... If it can Moonlight enough to break through the hability...

Emboar: Ehhh... It's a Recoil abuser so Synthesis might be good

Gigalith: With Sand Stream, it's now a pretty good mon. (Roost)

Excadrill: Not sure if worth a move slot (Roost)

Scrafty: Can set-up more freely now, and has an actual not bad bulk (Roost)

Cofagrigus: Oh. OH. Gets COSMIC POWER too (Roost)

Escavalier: Bulky physical attacker with recovery is good, who would've guessed (Roost/Synthesis)

Alomomola: OK, NO. GET OUT. (Recover)

Eelektross: Bulky Coil actually works (Recover)

Cobalion: C'mon, guys, Cobalion is the Physically Defensive Sword of justice (Roost)

Thundurus: Well, can recover HP other then Switchng onto electric (Roost)

Landorus-T: Bulky sets, here we go (Roost)

Diggersby: SD Roost sounds good tbh. Add Brave Bird Earthquake and you're ready to go

Pyroar: Simillar to Blastoise, relevant because also gets Quiver Dance. Shame bulk isn't that great (Roost)

Sylveon: Calm Mind Roost with Pixielate is better then Wish.

Zygarde: Coil Roost maybe? Just be thankful Powr Construct is banned because Complete Zygarde with Roost would be hell

Volcanion: Well, stronger Scald with Roost.

Wishiwashi: Remember I mentioned Complete Zygarde with recovery would be hell? Here's the fish version of it, only that it's legal (Recover)

Mudsdale: +1 Def every time is hit + Recover is pretty self-explainatory

Bewear: Well, has 120 HP, a great tanky hability, and now Synthesis

Golisopod: Eeeeh... If you get a forced switch, you can Shore Up

Silvally: Relevant because gets Shell Smash and can be every type. (Recover)

Nihilego: Roost is interesting I guess? It has good Sp. Def and keeping HP when you have Beast Boost is important

Xurkitree: Quiver Dance Beast Boost Roost. Nuff said

Guzzlord: Yeah, it's defenses suck, but Moonlight is better then nothing

Magearna: Good defensive typing with Moonlight. Also has a good hability that is basically Beast Boost too

Everyone just decided to Roost around. Alright then.

Well, that being said, offensive presence might put a pressure on Recovery

Tell me if I missed any relevant mon

Surely it gets Slack Off from Hippowdon? Speaking of Drapion, it has Battle Armor, and Hippowdon also gives it Stockpile. Good luck breaking through +3/+3.
70/110/75 isn't very good tho, especially on the special side
And with the amount of crazy boosting nukes in this metagame, I don't think Drapion will become a serious threat

Edit: THE POLL IS CLOSED. A few days behind schedule LOL.
Big announcement time!

By popular demand, Shell Smash is now banned from merging.

Well there goes 90% of my sets. To clarify, when you say banned from merging am I right in understanding the original users are still able to use it, as per metas such as Sketchmons or Stabmons?

Shell Smash ban isn't going to stop the almighty Numel! Bow down before the god of death!

Numel @ Normalium Z
Ability: Simple
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Splash
- Flame Charge
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Set up to max attack with one z-splash, get yo speed up with flame charge and sweep your opponent all the way to Jupiter.
Counters: Damaging moves.

Sorry, but Z-boosts aren't affected by Simple (or Contrary).
So that means this can be a thing!

boosts lol (Malamar) @ Normalium Z
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Happy Hour
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab

Pretty simple. Z-Happy Hour ignores Contrary, so boost to +1 in everything, then start snowballing. Superpower to snowball, Knock Off for STAB, Poison Jab for Fairies.

Is this how it works in-game? I'm asking because there was a popular Sketchmons set (prior to its ban) on Swoobat, which had things boosted to +2 all around:

Swoobat @ Normalium Z
Ability: Simple
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sketch
- Stored Power
- Heat Wave
- Roost / filler

replay demonstrating (skip to turn 9 to see): http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7sketchmons-516621842

Simple/Contrary used to effect z-moves on Showdown but it got fixed.

oh, by the way

Due to the way Mergemons works, split evos get each others merges just fine, but the things that get merges from split evos do not get anything from its other branches (Alolan Marowak can get Leaf Storm because it has a branch evo, standard Marowak, adjacent to Alolan Exeggutor, but Alolan Exeggutor cannot get Flare Blitz from Alolan Marowak because even though it is adjacent to a split evo of Alolan Marowak, that split evo does not learn Flare Blitz). The more you know and all that.

in other news

Cobalion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Quiver Dance
- Focus Blast
- Flash Cannon

quiver dance Cobalion

Cobalion's stats seem pretty good at quiver dancing, so i'll probably end up using this set if i ever find it in myself to make a real team
