Jolteon [QC: 0/3]

[OVERVIEW]

•High speed and good special attack make Jolteon an excellent revenge killer and late game cleaner on offensive teams.

•It faces competition from Galvantula and Heliolisk as an offensive electric type due to their better movepools and the former's additional utility in sticky web.

•Poor physical bulk and HP means that it struggles to take hits well.

•Jolteon is an excellent check to speedy but frail sweepers such as Swellow and bulky water types

[SET COMMENTS]

*Thunderbolt is a decently powerful stab attack that can wear down walls it can't hit supereffectively such as Registeel, Comfey, Snorlax, and Umbreon.

*Shadow Ball hits psychic types such Cresselia, Bronzong, Reniculous, Espeon, and Gardevoir, which jolteon otherwise struggles against

•Hidden Power Ice is a must to be able to hit ground and dragon types supereffectively

•Vol Switch is the key move on this set, as it allows Jolteon to act as an offensive pivot and revenge killer.

========

Set Details

  • The EVs are fairly straightforward, maximizing special attack and speed to allow Jolteon to fulfill its' role of a revenge killer.
  • Choice specs is the preferred item to make up Jolteon's lack of raw power. Life orb is also a viable option to still allow switching moves without sacrificing too much power, but when combined with its lack of bulk and vulnerability to entry hazards Jolteon is worn down quite quickly.
  • Volt absorb is Jolteon's only viable ability, as it allows it to switch into electric attacks to get a free health restoration.

========

Usage Tips

========

•Jolteon should be utilized as a revenge killer, picking off weakened threats with Volt Switch and gaining momentum.

•If choice specs is used, play carefully around ground types, as a misprediction can be a crippling momentum loss.

Team Options

========

•Chesnaught is a great partner for Jolteon, as it can hit most ground types hard with wood hammer and lures in flying types that Jolteon can check. Cloyster and Dhelmise also synergize well with Jolteon.

•Wish or healing wish support can allow Jolteon to make a comeback late game, and Umbreon and Shaymin fulfill these roles quite well.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

•Due to it's very limited movepool, Jolteon lacks many other options.

•Hidden power water can be used to hit Rotom-H and Rhyperior harder but has little use otherwise.

•A choice scarf can be run to emergency check setup sweepers such as cloyster but is generally inferior to choice specs or life orb.

Checks and Counters

===================

**Trace Users**- Gardevoir and Porygon-2 can trace Volt Absorb and force a switch on the Choice Specs set.

**Strong Attackers**- Poor bulk and lack of useful resistances means that Jolteon struggles to take hits.

**Rotom-H**- Rotom-H takes little damage from any of Jolteon's moves and can hit it hard with Overheat or burn a switch-in with wil-o-wisp

Fix the spacing issues in the skeleton please, it's really hard to read at the moment. Also, just from a quick skim, it seems pretty bare bones at the moment along with some incorrect information. Heliolisk is not competition, it is weaker and slower, Thunderbolt does not wear down Registeel, Umbreon, or Snorlax, the latter two possessing reliable recovery and don't care about paralysis and the former taking next to no damage. Shadow Ball is mostly for Bronzong as a neutral Thunderbolt hits nearly as hard. Jolteon is not limited to just a revenge killer, it has a great Speed tier that allows it to threaten pretty much every non-Choice Scarfed offensive threat. Hidden Power Ice is also for Grass-types. There's a lot more that needs to be fixed here, but I'm not going to go into detail until this is updated a bit. Regardless of Jolteon's rather mediocre presence, this analysis still needs to be more in-depth than just saying basic information that any run of the mill battler already knows.
