Golisopod @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Emergency Exit
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- First Impression
- Knock Off
- Leech Life
- Aqua Jet / Liquidation

Despite its mediocre Speed, Golisopod is a great revenge killer and defensive stop to several dangerous offensive threats in RU. Powerful STAB priority in First Impression and Aqua Jet threatens faster Pokemon like Flygon, Celebi, and Rotom-C. Its solid bulk and defensive typing make it a good check to Ground- and Steel-types like Flygon and Metagross as well. 84 Speed EVs outrun Pokemon with base 50 Speed like Diancie and Registeel. Heavy-Duty Boots mitigates Golisopod's Stealth Rock weakness, which is especially useful because of the often-awkward Emergency Exit; while it can sometimes be useful to get a free switch, it hinders Golisopod's defensive utility. Knock Off punishes Golisopod's common switch-ins, making Crobat, Noivern, and Water-types like Milotic easier to wear down. Leech Life reliably smacks bulkier Pokemon weak to Bug like Reuniclus and Umbreon, which would otherwise heal off First Impression or block it with Protect. Because Golisopod very often lures in Crobat and Noivern, Steel-types like Registeel and Steelix are good partners defensively.

QC 1/1 careful of the word limit, I think this can definitely be compressed in some areas

Despite its mediocre Speed stat, Golisopod functions well as a revenge killer and defensive stop to several dangerous offensive threats in RU. Access to powerful STAB priority in First Impression and Aqua Jet let it threaten faster Pokemon like Flygon, Celebi, and Rotom-C Sharpedo(Runs Protect and 2HKOes with Dark Pulse). Its solid bulk and defensive typing make it a good physical wall against (I think check is more appropriate, not sure I'd really call something that gets as easily warn down as Golisopod a wall.) Ground- and FightingSteel-types like Flygon and MetagrossLucario(E: +2 espeed is a roll to activate emergency exit and CC straight up does, so I think this is a better example.) as well. Heavy-Duty Boots mitigates its Stealth Rock weakness, especially useful because of its often-awkward ability Emergency Exit; while it can sometimes be useful to get a free switch after taking sacrificial damage, it hinders Golisopod's ability to defensively answer Pokemon things. Knock Off punishes Golisopod's common switch-ins, removing Crobat and Noivern's Heavy-Duty Boots as well as Registeel or other Steel-types' Leftovers.(Steel-types won't want to switch into Golisopod unless they've to, I feel bulky Water-types like milotic and seismitoad would be a better example.) Leech Life is a reliable way to smack bulkier Pokemon weak to Bug like Reuniclus and Umbreon that would otherwise be able to heal off First Impression or block it with Protect or use Protect against First Impression. Liquidation and Aqua Jet are both ways to hit Fire- and Ground-types better, but Aqua Jet is able to revenge kill faster targets like Chandelure and Darmanitan Salazzle(Darm rose to UU) at the expense of a much harder hit against Rhyperior, Steelix, and Stakataka. Because it very often gives lures in Crobat and Noivern free switches(Taking a Knock Off isn't exactly free.), Steel-types like Registeel and Steelix, as well as more offensive checks like Raikou and Heliolisk, (These 2 don't really like taking Brave Bird + U-turn or Draco Meteor, especially Heliolisk. ) are all good partners defensively.(Mention the speed on the set is for base 50 speed Pokemon like Diancie.)

Knock Off punishes Golisopod's common switch-ins, removing Crobat and Noivern's Heavy-Duty Boots as well as Milotic's, or other Water-types', Leftovers. (idk exactly how to phrase this but milo likes boots while most other waters like lefties) making Crobat, Noivern, and Water-types like Milotic easier to wear down. (I imagine this checks out?) Leech Life is a reliable way to smack reliably smacks bulkier Pokemon weak to Bug like Reuniclus and Umbreon, (AC) that would otherwise be able to which would otherwise heal off First Impression or block it with Protect. Liquidation and Aqua Jet are both ways to hit Fire- and Ground-types better, but Aqua Jet is able to revenge kill faster targets like Chandelure and Salazzle at the expense of a much harder hit against Rhyperior, Steelix, and Stakataka. (this spotlight running on the longer side, and the removed info feels pretty intuitive) Because it Golisopod very often lures in Crobat and Noivern, Steel-types like Registeel and Steelix are good partners defensively.
