Galarian Zapdos has recently started soaring in usage in OU with its effective Speed tier, bone-breaking Brave Bird, and cranium-crushing Close Combat, which make it very difficult to switch into safely because very few Pokemon resist its STAB combination. Stomping Tantrum makes Tapu Koko, one of the few Pokemon that resist its STAB moves, more wary of switching in. Thunderous Kick is a viable alternative over Stomping Tantrum, giving Galarian Zapdos a weaker yet safer Fighting-type STAB move, and it also has the ability to beat Pokemon like Corviknight, which can normally spam Roost, with the Defense drops. Galarian Zapdos's ability to take advantage of Defog with Defiant makes entry hazard setters like Ferrothorn and Landorus-T great partners. These Pokemon also provide Galarian Zapdos defensive utility by checking revenge killers like Tapu Koko, and Dragapult. Pokemon like Zeraora and Tapu Koko, which can take advantage of Landorus-T's high usage and lure it in, benefit Galarian Zapdos by helping it activate Defiant. Future Sight users like Galarian Slowking and Slowbro boost Galarian Zapdos's wallbreaking power, with Galarian Slowking also giving it defensive utility against foes like Zapdos and Slowbro providing a safe switch with Teleport.

Galarian Zapdos has recently started soaring in usage in OU with its bone-breaking Brave Birds and cranium-crushing Close Combats making it very difficult to switch into safely as very few Pokemon resist both. love it, these alliterations are straight out of a terrible anime. though i would maybe also mention its speed tier being something pretty prominent as well. Landorus-T usage is also a gigantic reason we're seeing Gzap more since unlike most wallbreakers Intimidate actively benefits it instead of hinders its breaking power. Tapu Koko being one of the Pokemon that resist both of its STABs, influences Galarian Zapdos to use Stomping Tantrum to make Tapu Koko it more weary of switching in. Tapu Koko also generally outspeeding it incentivizes predicting with Tantrum a little more as well since you can't just one-two punch it with two back-to-back CCs Thunderous Kick is another viable alternative over Stomping Tantrum giving it a weaker yet safer STAB that allows it to break through the likes of Corviknight, which can repeatedly spam use Roost its recovery moves on its Close Combat. Galarian Zapdos's ability to abuse Defog with Defiant makes hazard setters like Ferrothorn and Landorus-T great partners. These pokemon also provide Galarian Zapdos defensive utility by checking Electric-types like Tapu Koko, and Zapdos. I wouldn't just talk about Electric-types but I'd moreso emphasize revenge killers as a whole that may want to come in against Gzap after losing a mon, which Gzap is super vulnerable to. Things like Dragapult, Choiced Kartana, etc. Still good examples but it's not just speedy Electric-types Landorus-T's high usage benefits Galarian Zapdos, making it a great partner for pokemon like Zeraora and Tapu Koko which can double switch to Galarian Zapdos as they bait in Landorus-T giving it a attack boost. Galarian Zapdos's strong Fighting-type STAB naturally makes it a good partner for Future Sight users like Galarian Slowking and Slowbro who can really boost its breaking power allowing it to break through Zapdos, and Toxapex. Do either of these Pokemon provide anything defensively for it? Or can they position Gzap? Things like that

Thunderous Kick is another viable alternative over Stomping Tantrum giving it a weaker yet safer STAB that allows it to break through the likes of Corviknight, which can repeatedly use Roost on its Close Combat. This is my bad, it's probably important moreso here to emphasize how Thunderous Kick lets it nail the same switch-ins Close Combat does, while letting it break past Corviknight that may attempt to come in after a Pokemon is knocked out.
