Hello, and welcome to the CAP forums! Do you love CAP and want to talk about it even more than you already do? Then come check out our live chatrooms on Pokemon Showdown and Discord. We're always willing to discuss the current CAP process, as well as the CAP metagame, CAP policy, and so much more! This thread is designed to tell you about all things related to the CAP live chatrooms.

Our PS room and Discord server are meant to discuss CAP policy, projects, and the metagame at large in a real-time environment. This includes specific submissions, CAP rules, and smaller, relevant tangents that may occur in discussion threads. This prevents clogging of threads and back-and-forth discussions between a small group of people. It's meant to be faster and more efficient than thread posting, but not meant for large posts. CAP discussion takes precedent over any other off-topic discussion, always.

Status in our Showdown room is gained through activity. No one is guaranteed status, and do not ask for it; if you are a high quality, active contributor, you will be recognized. Higher status levels are also responsible for moderating the chat, and so promotion to these levels is also carries a level of responsibility. Status on our Discord server is currently based on status in other parts of the CAP project, including both the forums and Showdown. The Discord server is fairly new, and should it become more popular in the future, the status system will likely be adjusted to reflect activity in the chat, just like on PS.

So please, come stop by our live chat rooms for friendly, real-time conversations with CAP contributors! I look forward to seeing you there!

CAP Showdown Room Status Level Descriptions

Voice (+): Voiced users are people who have proven themselves to be a positive presence in the CAP room. They must show maturity, have discretion, and have the ability to respect CAP discussions. While not a position of authority, some responsibility is also expected of such users as they have access to broadcasting commands in the chat, which can be disruptive if used irresponsibly.

Driver (%): As with all higher status levels, driver is a position of actual authority in the chat, and as such, requires a higher level of responsibility, due to having the ability to warn and mute other users. In addition to the traits needed to be a voice, a driver has to have reliable activity in the PS CAP room and a generally calm and rational approach to internet chatting. Drivers not only need to demonstrate the responsibly to use their powers appropriately but they also need to have the ability to calmly stop situations from escalating. Drivers also have the ability to start room tournaments, room polls, and a few other activities and must have proven their capabilities of making good judgments when starting such activities. Last but not least, drivers are part of the CAP room authority team and thus must be able to effectively communicate with other members of authority.

Moderator (@): Moderators are the highest common level of authority in the chat room. In terms of powers, the biggest increase from driver is the ability to ban users from the room. Perhaps the biggest additional thing that we look for in a moderator is the ability to judge the character of others, as this is very important when it comes to assigning bans. Furthermore, moderators are allowed to give direct input on other potential promotions, a process in which such character judgement is equally important.

Room Owner (#): The highest level of room specific authority, room owners are the leaders and face of the chat room. Room owners are responsible for keeping the room's intro up to date, and making sure the room's staff is operating efficiently and cohesively. They have the final say in any and all promotions and punishments in the room. Only when there is a need will a user be promoted to this position, and even then only the most outstanding of all users will even be considered.

Global Status - In addition to users who have earned status within the CAP room, you may see other users with status symbols by their name. These people have global status, which is status that carries over between all rooms on Pokemon Showdown. Global authority (drivers and above) have the ability to give out harsher punishments, such as a lock, and are trusted to use their power in any room, including the CAP room.
