What major threats would your stat spread allow CAP 23 to hard check/counter?

I actually did a lot of calcs for this, so by all means, we can take a look. For the defensive calculations, on the physical side at least, I'm rolling with the same spread as Deck. He showed his thought process behind that already, and I agreed with it, hence swapping to it. My Special Defense stat isn't set in stone, so I can't actually provide much in way of calcs on that right now. I just have 100 as a basic benchmark that seems fairly good to have somewhere around.

The speed stat lets CAP23 threaten all Pokemon at speed 101 and below, such as Zapdos, Volcarona, Rotom-W, and Thundrus. However, I wanted our speed as low as possible. Therefore I chose the option where we can make Garchomp not a reliable revenge killer against us (except Scarf variants), but still is a threat that we don't want to deal with. So it creates an interesting stalemate scenario, rather than always checking Garchomp like if CAP23 was any faster.

Anyways, onwards to actually discussing what we can hard check/counter.

120 Attack Spirit Shackle (252) OHKOs Scarf Kitsunoh 62.5% of the time.
120 Attack Spirit Shackle (252+) OHKOs Scarf Kitsunoh 100% of the time.
120 Attack Spirit Shackle (252) OHKOs Scarf Kitsunoh after Stealth Rock.

C23 can make Kitsunoh hesitant to switch in.

120 Attack Brave Bird (252) OHKOs Offensive Tomohawk 93.8% of the time.
120 Attack Brave Bird (252+) OHKOs Offensive Tomohawk.
120 Attack Brave Bird (252) OHKOs Offensive Tomohawk after Stealth Rock.

C23 with Brave Bird checks Offensive Tomohawk (Hurricane dents, but we can clobber if we give Brave Bird).

Brave Bird (252) 2HKOs Defensive Tomohawk.
Brave Bird (252+) 2HKOs Defensive Tomohawk.
Brave Bird (252+) with Life Orb can OHKO Defensive Tomohawk 87.5% of the time after Stealth Rock.
Z-Brave Bird (252) OHKOs Defensive Tomohawk after Stealth Rock.

C23 with Brave Bird counters Defensive Tomohawk when using Z-Brave Bird, and still hits hard even without Flynium-Z.

Brave Bird (252) 2HKOs Assault Vest Tangrowth.
Z-Brave Bird (252) OHKOs Assault Vest Tangrowth.

C23 with Brave Bird counters Assault Vest Tangrowth, especially when with Flynium-Z.

Spirit Shackle (252) followed by an Outrage KOs Defensive Zapdos after Stealth Rock.
Spirit Shackle (252) followed by two Outrages KOs Defensive Zapdos.
Outrage (252) 2HKOs Defensive Zapdos 89.1% of the time.
Outrage (252+) 2HKOs Defensive Zapdos.
Spirit Shackle (252) with Life Orb followed by an Outrage KOs Defensive Zapdos.

C23 counters Defensive Zapdos by using either Spirit Shackle coupled with an Outrage or two.

Z-Outrage (252) OHKOs Defensive Cyclohm
Outrage (252) 2HKOs Defensive Cyclohm
Outrage (252+) with Life Orb OHKOs Defensive Cyclohm

I don't know how much Draco Meteor does, but we pretty safely check Cyclohm. When using more offensive sets, we OHKO with Outrage thanks to the Tough Claws bonus. Still not an ideal choice for C23 thanks to Static being common.

Z- Spirit Shackle (252+) OHKOs Belly Drum Cawmmodore 31.3% of the time.
Z- Spirit Shackle (252+) OHKOs Belly Drum Cawmmodore with Stealth Rock.

If we choose to run Z-Spirit Shackle, we can make Cawm regret switching in. This seems important to me just because people switch Cawm in against all sorts of Pokemon, and we need to make sure that we at least have some sort of way to make sure Cawm doesn't consider us complete setup bait. Note that this is still Checking, because we definitely don't want to be taking an Acrobatics or Knock Off.

I'm still working on the other calcs, but these are some of the ones I've done so far. Essentially, we can check/counter all pivots that we were wanting to beat when given strong Flying coverage, and even without it we beat the Electric types we were wanting to beat at the very least.

I've been disappointed so far in the lack of diversity in the submissions, compounded by a lack of discussion. Speed tiers in particular are a huge deal for this CAP, since it places a hard definition on what CAP 23 can and can't reasonably trap. As an example, speeds lower than 92 mean that it is unreasonable to think we can ever trap Landorus-Therian, while speeds over 105 can reasonably expect to trap and nuke Krilowatt. 95 is an especially important number since it is Colossoil's speed tier, and being slower than Colossoil makes the matchup far, far harder on CAP 23 than it is if CAP 23 is faster, almost unwinnable. Base 100 mostly affects CAP 23's relationship with Zapdos and Mew, while 102 affects the relationship with Garchomp. 105 affects our relationship with Krilowatt, which is important because of Volt Switch. After than, Kitsunoh and Latios at 110 are direct competitors for usage, sharing one type each with CAP 23 and a comparable "nuke things" role. Nothing truly important hangs around 115, but there is a major cluster around 120, where Kerfluffle, Syclant and Greninja are, in that order. All three matchups change radically based on which Pokemon is faster. 125 is the home of Weavile, which is a tremendous danger to CAP regardless of the speed matchup because of Ice Shard + Pursuit. 130 is the fastest we could realistically go with this concept, but there is nothing important you outright outspeed between Weavile and 130, so you gain only the speed ties with Tapu Koko and Stratagem. Any of these speed tiers we pick involves opportunity cost, in particular because greater speed will generally mean less bulk and vice-versa.

For now, I'd say the spreads I am leaning most toward slating are:

jas61292: 80 HP / 123 Atk / 85 Def / 62 SpA / 65 SpD / 120 Spe (535 BST) (289.18 BSR)

The most obvious choice to slate, since it's unique, gives its counters ample reason to switch in, clearly defines its role, and isn't strong enough to bludgeon its way through our counters.

Kyubics: 90 HP / 127 Atk / 78 Def / 58 SpA / 116 SpD / 96 Spe (565 BST) (315.96 BSR)

A good representative of the >95, <100 speed grouping, with very strong STank and respectable but still vulnerable PTank. Lower Attack than some others in its grouping, which tended to mess a bit with the Steels that are supposed to counter CAP 23.

Garbagery: 95 HP / 130 Atk / 90 Def/65 SpA / 95 SpD / 95 Spe (575 BST) (321.93 BSR)

A balanced and overall very strong spread, hitting 95 speed exactly but boasting strong, balanced defenses and powerful Attack.

Victor S. Court: 98 / Atk 135 / 80 Def / 47 SpA / 109 SpD / 101 Spe (570 BST), (334.1 BSR)

One of the more optimized and overall strongest spreads; comes right to the limit of every BSR category.

NV: 84 HP / 133 Atk / 71 Def / 51 SpA / 111 SpD / 101 Spe (551 BST) (309.05 BSR)

Less PTank and overall bulk than Victor's spread, while sporting comparable PSweep.

Korski: 94 HP / 126 Atk / 65 Def / 65 SpA / 94 SpD / 106 Spe (550 BST) (306.7 BSR)

Together with Deck Knight one of the few >105,<110 speed submissions, clearly distinguishable by having much better STank and much worse PTank than DK's submisison.

Deck Knight: 82 HP / 127 Atk / 93 Def / 56 SpA / 85 SpD / 107 Spe (550 BST) (303.25 BSR)

A strong representative of both the >105 and PTank > STank schools of thought.

mxmts: 100 HP/138 Atk/65 Def/55 SpA/110 SpD/92 Spe (BST: 560)

Representative of the <95 grouping, mxmts takes a bulky, very powerful approach,

I am posting this mostly so that there is time to debate and discuss the various benchmarks represented therein, and also for any users who wish to do so to make final adjustments to WIP submissions. This discussion will be closed and go to a poll in 48 hours.

I'm a really big fan of Victor S. Court's submission. My issue with most of the other sets is a lesser ability to take out Tomohawk outright. We obviously don't want Tomohawk to be outright beaten by CAP23 100% of the time, but increasing the number of scenarios in which we can take it out fits right into where we want this mon to be.

I personally think putting PT above ST is problematic, because at that point the only way CAP23 is viable is by just becoming a sweeper, due to the low set BSR for PT. Becoming just another offensive mon makes Comatose's utility limited to just preventing burns and paralysis--something Colossoil essentially gets with it's typing and Guts, for example. I think increasing the speed too high (105 and above) puts us too firmly in this category.

Again, I particularly like the speed tier of Victor S. Court's submission due to the ability to outspeed Zapdos, but not Garchomp, creating loss of tempo after trapping a mon. It also allows us to viably keep the PT lower and increase the nuking ability.

Looking at Heatran's trapping sets as a baseline, Heatran's ability to trap is based on it's high SS with a lower speed tier, along with good bulk, preventing it from being easily KO'd by more passive mons. We want CAP23 to do this same job, only more consistently and with different targets and checks/counters. I think by this logic increasing the speed of this mon too much is a grave mistake and puts us too far away from the concept.

TL DR: Victor S. Court's submission gets my vote because it creates a nice balance of bulkiness, nuking ability, and ability to be checked by offensive mons, but the others don't seem to as much.

I decided to make a new post since my original one is so far back, I hope that's ok.

As a sort of preface to my more in-depth explanation of each aspect of this stat spread, I would just like to mention the kinds of themes I was looking at when deciding its strengths and weaknesses. I wanted to focus on the features of this CAP so far that make it unique instead of just submitting a generically good bulky attacker. As I will explain in more detail later, I have centred my spread around Z-Moves, which synergise especially well with CAP 23's main concept of trapping, and this CAP's useful Dragon / Ghost typing which, with the right stats, may allow it to carve a niche on the very common and very effective bulky offense archetype. Also just so you are aware, I will reference any included calcs at the end of my post.

Physical Tankiness: 120.504 (limit 138)
This is the stat bias closest to the given limit, but that is definitely not to say that this is an area where this spread excels. Personally, I feel like having somewhat decent defense is extremely useful to a slower offensive Pokemon as it gives it much more longevity and does not give it a crippling weakness in being very easily revenge killed. That said, almost any super-effective physical attack will knock CAP 23 out, with the exception of low base power moves like Pursuit. Flame Orb Colossoil will never OHKO this spread with Pursuit if CAP 23 stays in [1] which consolidates Colossoil as a check as it can no longer mindlessly use Pursuit and remove CAP 23 whether it stays in or not. The PT without investment also means that CAP 23 will almost never be knocked out by SD Tapu Bulu's Horn Leech into Wood Hammer in Grassy Terrain [2,3] and it will never be OHKO'd by Sand Rush Excadrill [4], both of which are Pokemon in the Target and Pressure category. Despite this, CAP 23 is easily outdamaged by Pokemon that are supposed to counter it, for example, Celesteela will almost always 2HKO this spread with a 120 BP Heavy Slam. One less point in Defense would make this guaranteed, however CAP 23 could invest the leftover 4 EVs in Defense and avoid this benchmark anyway.

Special Tankiness: 180.313 (limit 200)
Probably the strongest area of this spread compared to others submitted so far, in my opinion a good Special Tankiness is invaluable in taking advantages of this CAP's typing: Dragon / Ghost. This typing has some great resistances to elementary types such as Fire, Water, Grass and Electric, and it is my aim with this spread to take advantage of that. As a result, CAP 23 would offer great role compression for bulky offensive team as it can check or counter many powerful special-attacking threats. For example, univested CAP 23 is never 2HKO'd by Mega Charizard Y (including Hidden Power Ice) [5,6], 2HKO'd by +0 Volcarona [7,8], OHKO'd by +1 Volcarona (including Shattered Psyche) [9,10,11] and almost never 3HKO'd by standard pivot Tapu Koko not carrying Dazzling Gleam [12,13]. Good special bulk also means that the defensive Pokemon such as Tomohawk, Zapdos and Mega Venusaur that we are supposed to beat can barely do any damage to CAP 23 at all - this spread is never 3HKO'd by defensive Tomo [14], for instance. That being said, defensive Tapu Fini is still kept as a good counter as it will always 2HKO with Moonblast [15].

Physical Sweepiness: 184.331 (limit 212)
Arguably the most important area of these stat spread submissions, PS will be the defining stat bias of CAP 23. i will start with explaining my choice of Speed and will then go on to justify my chosen Attack. Base 96 Speed outspeeds the incredibly crowded base 95 speed tier, which I thought was an important benchmark for this CAP. it allows CAP 23 to easily run an Adamant nature as the most relevant base 95s do not run a speed boosting nature - for example Colossoil, Zygarde and Chocie Specs Volkraken. Those that do run such a nature, like Tapu Lele, most often run Choice Scarf sets so the speed tier is irrelevant. It also underspeeds DD Naviathan, which always OHKOs with Heavy Slam [16], so it remains a check. I did not feel like outspeeding base 100s was necessary at all as it makes it much harder to justify a more powerful Attack stat, which this CAP intrinsically needs. The matchup with Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona is unchanged and Mega Charizard X is consolidated as a check. Mega Gardevoir and Mega Medicham do become more of an issue as they gain the ability to revenge kill CAP 23, although they are unable to switch in on its most spammable move, Spirit Shackle, so were unreliable as checks anyway. In summary, 96 Speed acts as a balancing factor for CAP 23's many other positive points, primarily its good bulk.
The attack stat is, I feel, the focal point of any stat spread and has been debated more than any other in regards to how CAP 23 lures in Pokemon it wishes to trap. The solution I present with my spread is Z-Moves. This Attack stat is designed to dismantle a portion of our threatlist depending on what Z-Move it decides to run - in other words, variation in a single set is responsible for different aims rather than having multiple sets. I envision that CAP 23 has access to three Z-Moves: Devastating Drake based off of Outrage, Supersonic Skystrike based off of Brave Bird and Shattered Psyche based off of Zen Headbutt. If this is poll jumping please let me know as it is critical to the justification of my spread. The given Attack stat with an Adamant nature allows CAP 23 to always KO standard Toxapex with Spirit Shackle into Shattered Psyche with Stealth Rocks up [17,18]; always KO the Grass and Fighting types on our Target and Dismantle list with Spirit Shackle into Supersonic Skystrike (after SR in Pyroak's case - note that many can be KO'd by Devastating Drake after rocks) [19-28]; KO physically defensive Zapdos with Spirit Shackle into Devastating Drake some of the time and always with Stealth Rock up [29,30], and always KO defensive Landorus-T with Spirit Shackle into Devastating Drake into Outrage after Stealth Rock [31-33] (CAP 23 can take one hit from Landorus). This use of Z-Moves means that CAP 23 can choose which Pokemon it is able to trap and kill depending on its team's needs.

Special Sweepiness: 92.3398 (limit 110)
This is kind of irrelevant since CAP 23 should never use its Special Attack, however the stat I chose is realistic and rounds off the BST to a nice number.

I think the best way to tackle the concept is to have a solid attack that doesn't outright smash anything in front of it. If it would, the things we want to dismantle wouldn't even bother to switch in. I think it's better to rely on coverage moves to beat the mons we want to beat.
As such, my calcs will contain certain coverage moves often seen on fully evolved mons or that have already been mentioned in other threats.

109 HP:
This gives us 359 HP without any investment, a Life Orb Number. Also I wanted a high HP number to make TrapCAP more vulnerable to Leech Seed to help our Counters.

120 Atk:
120 is enough in my opinion. Given we have the coverage we need, this attack stat allows us to beat everything we need to. It is also enough so that we can't 2HKO Tapu Fini with our STABs.

60 Def:
This is enough to tank Knock Offs from our targets, but still weak enough so that AV Colossoils Sucker Punch kills us.

55 SAtk:
55 Atk is not enough to threaten our counters, but it is enough to threaten Lando-T with HP Ice.

60 SDef:
Just as the defense, this is enough to tank attacks from Mon we need to take a hit from. An important benchmark it hits is the OHKO from Scarf Geninja's Ice Beam.

106 Spe:
Initially I wanted 101 Speed, which is enough to outspeed Zapdos, because I wanted to reserve more Checks like Garchomp or Mega Sharpedo.
But Krilowatt's Ice Beam is just too dangerous for us, so our only way to pressure it is going in a Speed tier above it. And since Mega Sharpedo is (more often than not) at +1 Speed, its worth the trade for me.

The coverage moves used are just examples and not meant as poll jumping, even tho I admit that my spread is not meant to funtion without (Z-)coverage.
This is the the set I used:

TrapCAP23 (Giratina) @ Life Orb
Ability: Comatose
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Spirit Shackle
- Earthquake
- Brave Bird

Other Coverage / support moves used: Psychic Fangs, Stone Edge, Icicle Crash
Other Items used: Z-Crystals, Choice Band (for Counters)

Tomohawk (offensive)
252+ SpA Life Orb Tomohawk Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 355-419 (98.8 - 116.7%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tomohawk: 351-413 (100 - 117.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Offensive Tomo has a good chance to OHKO, which gives it reason to stay in, but it has to fear Brave Bird, which cleanly knocks it out.

Tomohawk (defensive)
0 SpA Tomohawk Air Slash vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 138-163 (38.4 - 45.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 Atk Giratina Supersonic Skystrike (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tomohawk: 302-356 (72.9 - 85.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Psychic Fangs vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tomohawk: 177-211 (42.7 - 50.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tomohawk: 96-114 (23.1 - 27.5%) -- 3.4% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Giratina Supersonic Skystrike (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tomohawk: 302-356 (72.9 - 85.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Defensive Tomo might also want to stay in since it can 3HKO us with Air Slash (2HKO if we hold a LO).
If we run Supersonic Skystrike, we can 2HKO it after Stealth Rocks.

0 SpA Toxapex Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 39-47 (10.8 - 13%) -- possible 8HKO

252 Atk Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Toxapex: 69-82 (22.6 - 26.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252 Atk Giratina Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Toxapex: 114-136 (37.5 - 44.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252 Atk Giratina Tectonic Rage (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Toxapex: 206-244 (67.7 - 80.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

Toxapex is a sitting duck since it can't status us, we can weaken it with EQs until we can kill it of with Tectonic Rage

Tangrowth
0 Atk Tangrowth Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Giratina: 142-168 (39.5 - 46.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Giratina Supersonic Skystrike (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 212+ Def Tangrowth: 248-294 (61.5 - 72.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Tangrowth Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 142-168 (39.5 - 46.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 Atk Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 102-121 (25.2 - 29.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 Atk Giratina Supersonic Skystrike (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 322-380 (79.7 - 94%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

This is basically the same as Tomohawk, it can kill us if we don't run Supersonic Skystrike.

Arghonaut
220+ Atk Arghonaut Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Giratina: 204-240 (56.8 - 66.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
220+ Atk Arghonaut Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Giratina: 304-358 (84.6 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 200 HP / 0 Def Arghonaut: 168-199 (41.8 - 49.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Outrage vs. 200 HP / 0 Def Arghonaut: 253-298 (63 - 74.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Arghonaut wants to stay in if we are Life Orb since its Knock Off puts us into a range where we can dish out a max of two attacks.
Even tho this would be enough to kill it, we would also go down because of the recoil.

Pyroak
0 SpA Pyroak Lava Plume vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 63-74 (17.5 - 20.6%) -- possible 5HKO
0 SpA Pyroak Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 59-69 (16.4 - 19.2%) -- possible 6HKO

252 Atk Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pyroak: 87-103 (19.6 - 23.2%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Giratina Outrage vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Pyroak: 129-153 (29.1 - 34.5%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery and Leech Seed recovery

Again, SE Z coverage in Brave Bird or Stone Edge (with their respective Z-moves) gives us the opportunity to unexpectedly kill Pyroak.
Without any of those, Pyroak can Leech Seed stall us out.

Mollux
Defensive:
0 SpA Mollux Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 166-196 (46.2 - 54.5%) -- 59% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Giratina Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Mollux: 480-568 (121.8 - 144.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Defensive Mollux can't threaten us enough to want to stay in, since EQ is a big danger, and it's also weak to Stone Edge and Psychic Fangs.

Scarf:
252+ SpA Mollux Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 220-260 (61.2 - 72.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Giratina Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mollux: 480-568 (145 - 171.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Scarf Mollux can outspeed 2HKO us, so TrapCAP doesn't have enough time to trap this.
It has to kill it immediately with EQ or almost any Z-move.

Mega Venusaur
0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 156-184 (43.4 - 51.2%) -- 5.9% chance to 2HKO
0- Atk Venusaur-Mega Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Giratina: 190-224 (52.9 - 62.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Giratina Psychic Fangs vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 136-162 (37.4 - 44.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Giratina Shattered Psyche (160 BP) vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 256-302 (70.5 - 83.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Giratina Brave Bird vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 192-228 (52.8 - 62.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Giratina Supersonic Skystrike (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 304-358 (83.7 - 98.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 125-148 (34.4 - 40.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Brave Bird vs. 248 HP / 88 Def Venusaur-Mega: 250-296 (68.8 - 81.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Venusaur can tank and heal off our Attacks it we don't have the coverage. It also has the option of Knock Off to get rid of our Life Orb.
SE Coverage is again the key to beating it.

Zapdos
0 SpA Zapdos Discharge vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 79-93 (22 - 25.9%) -- 4.7% chance to 4HKO
0 SpA Zapdos Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 158-188 (44 - 52.3%) -- 17.6% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Zapdos: 183-216 (47.7 - 56.3%) -- 30.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Zapdos: 304-359 (79.3 - 93.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Zapdos: 141-166 (36.8 - 43.3%) -- 99.3% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Giratina Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Zapdos: 420-496 (109.6 - 129.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

LO Spirit Shackle -> LO Stone Edge kills it, as does Spirit Shackle -> Continental Crush.
Since we are faster, we never have to worry about Zapdos' Roost and the loss of its Flying type for that turn.

Landorus-T
0 Atk Landorus-Therian Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Giratina: 194-230 (54 - 64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Landorus-Therian Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Giratina: 290-342 (80.7 - 95.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

-1 252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Landorus-Therian: 87-103 (22.7 - 26.9%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
-1 252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Landorus-Therian: 244-291 (63.8 - 76.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

-1 252 Atk Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Landorus-Therian: 67-79 (17.5 - 20.6%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
-1 252 Atk Giratina Subzero Slammer (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Landorus-Therian: 352-416 (92.1 - 108.9%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Defensive Lando-T can switch into the LO set's Spirit Shackle and take a Icicle Crash afterwards, so it can kill it with a Knock Off.
The Icium-Z set on the other hand manages to get the KO on Lando-T before it can KO back.
Same goes for offensive Lando, except that LO Icicla Crash or Subzero Slammer OHKO it.

Rotom-W
0 SpA Rotom-Wash Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 93-110 (25.9 - 30.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 SpA Rotom-Wash Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 59-70 (16.4 - 19.4%) -- possible 6HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 248 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 117-138 (38.6 - 45.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Outrage vs. 248 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 173-204 (57 - 67.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 248 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 90-106 (29.7 - 34.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Giratina Devastating Drake (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 210-247 (69.3 - 81.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Spirit Shackle -> Devastating Drake has a good chance to 2HKO, while Life Orb Sets fail can still 3HKO.
Rotom basically doesn't want to switch in on us, since it can't even burn us.

Volkraken
252+ SpA Choice Specs Analytic Volkraken Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 434-512 (120.8 - 142.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Volkraken Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 204-242 (56.8 - 67.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Volkraken: 322-382 (94.1 - 111.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Giratina Tectonic Rage (180 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Volkraken: 446-526 (130.4 - 153.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Scarf Volk can outspeed and 2HKO us with HP Ice, while Specs is slower than us and does even OHKO thanks to Analytic.
But we also can threaten it with EQ and Stone Edge.

Krilowatt
252 SpA Life Orb Krilowatt Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 286-338 (79.6 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Krilowatt Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 82-97 (22.8 - 27%) -- 51.2% chance to 4HKO

252 Atk Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Krilowatt: 160-190 (36 - 42.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Giratina Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Krilowatt: 321-378 (72.2 - 85.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Giratina Tectonic Rage (180 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Krilowatt: 480-566 (108.1 - 127.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Once Trapped, We can Beat Krilowatt with Neverending Nightmare or Tectonic Rage.
If we predict a Volt Switch, we can also directly go for Tectonic Rage to OHKO it, so it is pressured to hard switch instead.

Excadrill
252 Atk Life Orb Excadrill Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Giratina: 329-387 (91.6 - 107.7%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Excadrill Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Giratina: 263-309 (73.2 - 86%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Excadrill: 242-286 (67 - 79.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Excadrill: 403-476 (111.6 - 131.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The faster one wins here basically, so it basically wants to stay in if sand is up.
If we run EQ we can OHKO it tho, while risking not to trap it.

Volcarona (offensive Firium-Z)
+1 252 SpA Volcarona Inferno Overdrive (185 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 351-414 (97.7 - 115.3%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 230-270 (73.9 - 86.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Outrage vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 341-403 (109.6 - 129.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

It is threatened by Outrage, so it would want to switchout before taking any hit. If it stays in, predicting a Spirit Shackle, it survives and can set um a QD, after which it OHKOs us with Inferno Overdrive.

Keldeo
252 SpA Keldeo Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 198-234 (55.1 - 65.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Giratina Shattered Psyche (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Keldeo: 360-424 (111.4 - 131.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Specs and Scarf outspeed us, so HP Ice is a huge Threat to us.
Our Threat is Brave Bird or Shattered Psyche, even tho woth LO for the former, we can die to LO recoil against Specs HP Ice.

Tapu Bulu
252 Atk Tapu Bulu Wood Hammer vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Giratina in Grassy Terrain: 221-261 (61.5 - 72.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Bulu: 283-335 (100.7 - 119.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

We can trap an beat it if it's SD Bulu, but CB Bulu threatens us with an OHKO, so we would need to OHKO first.

Mega Charizard Y
252 SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina in Sun: 195-229 (54.3 - 63.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Life Orb Giratina Spirit Shackle vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 199-234 (67 - 78.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Outrage has a great chance to OHKO it, and since we are faster, we can also 2HKO with Spirit Shackle.
Mega Charizard Y should not stay in against us.

Calm Mind Naviathan
4 SpA Naviathan Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 63-74 (17.5 - 20.6%) -- possible 5HKO
4 SpA Naviathan Hidden Power Ground vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Giratina: 63-75 (17.5 - 20.8%) -- possible 5HKO

We take only small damage from all its attacks, and in return trap and 3HKO it fairly easily.

252 Atk Giratina Tectonic Rage (180 BP) vs. 48 HP / 0 Def Naviathan: 406-478 (113 - 133.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

An instant Tectonic Rage is the only thing that OHKOs Naviathan, otherwise it can set up a DD and then outspeed and OHKO us with Iron Head.

EQ is irrelevant since Skarm will always Roost after us.
Any damage we could do to it is easily shrugged of with Roost, while Skarm can use its offensive move to kill us slowly.
It also has Counter which can OHKO us on Never-Ending Nightmare.

Again, EQ is irrelevant since Celesteela doesn't have Roost.
Celesteela can stall us out with Leech Seed + Protect. Depending on our weigth, Heavy Slam can really dent us.

Ferrothorn has an even easier time to stall us out with Leech Seed + Protect, since Iron Barbs additionally chips away our health.
If it wants to, it can even carry Rocky helmet to max out the chip damage. Its access to Knock Off also helps it take less damage and beat us faster.

Problems:
Pokemon against which the concept fails:

Checks we beat:
Kyurem-B, Zygarde, Garchomp, Tapu Lele (all unless scarfed), Mega Gardevoir (always)

Alright so I spent a lot of time thinking about this for someone who's not hugely influential in competitive, but my mindset for this is actually fairly simple.

First of all, some mons won't be broken through damage due to their sheer availability of healing. Tomohawk's Defensive Sets are difficult on a bad day, and Toxapex was giving me a migraine. Realistically, these mons either want to be slapped with a Toxic... or in the case of Toxapex, a Heal Block / Taunt. The former (Toxic) is a given based on conversations in here, so for those mons I'm broadly implementing the ideal of "Be bulky enough". Which is also kinda important for switching in.

(Yes I'm poll jumping a wee bit maybe, but I don't think assuming Toxic is that bad tbh)

HP: 80
ATK: 122
DEF: 50
SPA: 59
SPD: 138
SPE: 121
BST: 570

PT: 72.451 (138)
ST: 198.8432 (200)
PS: 210.5286 (212)
SS: 102.5286 (110)
BSR: 320.34101 (335)

Notable Traits: Fast, Physically Frail, Specially Bulky

Speed:
121 Speed is fairly fast (It allows Adamant 252 to outpace +Spe 105s, including notably Krill). A higher speed gives us a lot of flexibility in our EV Spreads and Nature Choices, which for a Lure-Trapper is a useful trait.

121 shares a tier with Syclant, who's ability to check us is largely unaffected - Ice Shard still clobbers us with minimal residual, and 122 ATK (combined with the need to run Jolly vs Syclant) means that Spirit Shackle doesn't manage a LO KO about 80% of the time.

Physical Bulk(?)
Yep, it's made of paper! Alright not really, but this relatively low HP/DEF introduces some concept-friendly matchups, including Skarmory 2HKOing 4/0 EV variants through Leftovers, Scizor landing the 2HKO around 65% of the time, and Defensive Celesteela can 4HKO with Heavy Slam 100% of the time (And able to work around Leftovers, Life Orb, and Choice Band variants).

It also ensures that other threats remain, well, threatening. Colossoil can force us out with Sucker Punch (And Pursuit on a Flame Orb set), and Sharpedo and M-Gyarados do likewise.

In terms of those we wish to counter, the lower defenses leave us vulnerable to Tangrowth's Knock Off - although this is true with substantially higher bulk anyway - but Arghonaut still struggles against us.

In terms of other survived hits, Exca becomes more difficult to check, as does Landorus-Therian, but Tapu Bulu notably can't OHKO us with it's Swords Dance set.

Special Bulk
As a counterpart to our Physical bulk, our Special Bulk is very high in order to appropriately tank the damage from those who we should be Checking/Countering. This is, quite simply, "as high as I could make it". I know quite a few people are running low SpD as a luring method, but that kills our ability to even switch-in in the first place in my mind.

Attack
122 isn't huge, but it does reach the cap of PS. This is needed, however, to avoid our primary trapping isn't "Use Toxic and Protect". Calcs assume Adamant 252 and Life Orb, with a moveset of something like Spirit Shackle / Outrage / Brave Bird / (Toxic|Taunt|Heal Block).

Special Attack
It's... higher than our Defense! Still not usable, unless we go for a gimmicky Z-Heal Block set using Hasty or a more dedicated one (Good luck). Which does, admittedly, allow us to shenanigans a couple of mons, but it ain't worth it in my mind.

Final Submission

82 HP / 120 Atk / 93 Def / 61 SpA / 108 SpD / 102 Spe (566 BST)

PT: 134.6 (Good)
ST: 158.76 (Very good)
PS: 185.33 (Excellent)
SS: 99.43 (Below Average)
BSR: 317.43 (Very Good)

Hp/Defense Reasoning: I ended up using the same physical bulk spread as Deck Knight. It accomplished essentially the same goals I was looking for, while having a Life Orb number for Hp and generally being fairly strong. I'm just going to quote Deck's reasoning, since it's in line with my own.
"82 HP gives a natural minimum of 305, slightly higher than Rotom-Wash's Max invested HP.

82 / 93 Defense ensures CAP survives AV Soil's Sucker Punch at full health with no investment. Pursuit still KO's most of the time if CAP switches:
252+ Atk Colossoil Sucker Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def CAP: 254-302 (83 - 98.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Colossoil Pursuit vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Decidueye: 294-348 (96 - 113.7%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO.

What this does is give CAP room to avoid a 50/50 at full health. If the opponent chips CAP it will still be susceptible to the 50/50, but it is not the most desirable choice. Notably, boosting items like Life Orb and Guts activation return the scenario to the 50/50, but it requires them to compromise item choice which will allow us to measure CAP's impact to an extent - how do checks and counters alter their sets with it being present." ~DK

Hp/SpD Reasoning: 82 Hp was decided on because of the Life Orb value, but I opted for 108 SpD for a 2HKO by SpA Krillowatt's Ice Beam and Clefable's Moonblast, while avoiding any possibility of a 3HKO by defensive Tomohawk's Air Slash when given 4 SpD EVs. Note that with Stealth Rock up, Air Slash can usually 3HKO. The stat spread gives us a fairly good flexibility in taking special attacks from the likes of Mollux and and Heatran.

Attack Reasoning: I justified my attack stat just early with the KOs it manages to get, so I'll just quote it in a spoiler.

Hide Hide

Essentially, we can check/counter all pivots that we were wanting to beat when given strong Flying coverage, and even without it we check/counter the Electric types we were wanting to beat.

Special Attack Reasoning: The number 61 was chosen because it always avoids a 2HKO with Hidden Power Fire against base-form Utility Scizor when uninvested, meaning it's a a fairly safe value. It won't be 2HKOing any Scizor or Mega Scizor forms as long as the Scizor at least has some Hp investment. You could dump a bunch of EVs into SpA to try and get the 2HKO on Scizor with Hidden Power Fire, but it's a waste.

Speed Reasoning: This spread has 102 speed because I wanted to outspeed base 100, which seems almost critical for this CAP. I looked at 106 or 107 speed as well, but we were wanting Garchomp to check us. By choosing a speed tier of 102, we can simultaneously check Garchomp while having him check us, creating a dangerous 50/50 matchup. However, if the Garchomp is running a defensive set, we can easily beat it. This seems pro-concept to me since we are trying to trap and eliminate many of these setup Pokemon. We do miss out on outspeeding Krillowatt, but I feel like that's a much less important item on our agenda.

Hi Reach I actually have changed the SpA of my spread to 60 and the SpD to 99, a minor edit that allows CAP to always tank two Scarf Volkraken Fire Blasts (factoring in one Analytic boost).

I am nervous though about all the big numbers in defensive stats I'm seeing. If the 0 HP / 0 Def / 4 SpD CAP can't be RKO'd by LO Greninja or Tapu Koko/ Scarf Lele or Kitsunoh or Gengar or whatever there needs to be a really important reason because all of these spreads are offensively powerful enough to OHKO those supposed checks. This is an offensive Pokemon with a really good typing and strong ability, so these few really bulky spreads that are also pretty fast and very strong I think are messing with the build triangle in an unhealthy way, especially the ones that toe the stat limits so closely.

Time is up! At the deadline, my chosen slate for the Stat Spread Poll is:
jas61292: 80 HP / 123 Atk / 85 Def / 62 SpA / 65 SpD / 120 Spe (535 BST) (289.18 BSR)

Kyubics: 90 HP / 127 Atk / 78 Def / 58 SpA / 116 SpD / 96 Spe (565 BST) (315.96 BSR)
Garbagery: 95 HP / 130 Atk / 90 Def/65 SpA / 95 SpD / 95 Spe (575 BST) (321.93 BSR)
NV: 84 HP / 133 Atk / 71 Def / 51 SpA / 111 SpD / 101 Spe (551 BST) (309.05 BSR)
Korski: 94 HP / 126 Atk / 65 Def / 60 SpA / 99 SpD / 106 Spe (550 BST) (306.7 BSR)
Deck Knight: 82 HP / 128 Atk / 93 Def / 55 SpA / 85 SpD / 107 Spe (550 BST) (303.64 BSR)

mxmts: 100 HP/138 Atk/65 Def/55 SpA/110 SpD/92 Spe (BST: 560) (311.54 BSR)
Dogfish44: 80 HP / 122 Atk / 50 Def / 59 SpA / 138 SpD / 121 Spe (570 BST) (320.34 BSR)

From my previous post, you may notice the inclusion of Dogfish44's submission, replacing Victor S. Court's. I like Dogfish44's spread's high speed, very low defense, and commitment to special bulk--it gives CAP 23 the option of hard checking Volkraken while leaving it truly vulnerable to physical Pokemon, a key quality both in balanced Pokemon (I share Korski's concerns about power level here) and in luring specific Pokemon in to be trapped.

Once snake_rattler approves this slate or exercises his +1/-1 privileges, we move on the Stat Spread Poll!

reachzero's slate represents a wide range of stat spreads that will all work well for CAP23, so I'm not planning on using my +1/-1 this time round. I hope to see everyone in the polls!
