[1v1] Hitmonlee (reassigned)

Overview
  • Can only really run two sets that are very predicatable
  • Countered by any mons that don't use attacking moves
  • two sets - Liechi endure or normal gem sub
  • unburden allows it to outspeed much of the meta
  • reversal is a 200 bp move at less than 4.7% hp

Standard Sub-Normal Gem

Hitmonlee @ Normal Gem
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 204 Def / 52 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Reversal
- Substitute
- Stone Edge / Toxic / Close Combat / Earthquake

Set Comments

Moves
  • Fake out consumes normal gem and also activated unburden, which allows it to safely sub 4 times without fear of being outsped.
  • Reversal is a move that gains in bp the less hp you have
  • Sub is used to safely get down to 1% for that 200 bp reversal, over the less reliable endure
  • Close combat is run to beat porygon z, since porygon often runs uproar, which goes through sub.
  • Stone edge or rock slide can kill pinsir
  • against aegislash and tapu koko, earthquake provides coverage

Set Details
  • spread is generic

Liechi endure Hitmonlee

Hitmonlee (M) @ Liechi Berry
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
IVs: 0 HP / 0 Def / 0 SpA / 0 SpD
- Endure
- Fake Out
- Reversal
- Stone Edge / Toxic / Close Combat / Earthquake

Set Comments

Moves
  • Fake out is used to break sturdy.
  • Endure is used to get down to 1 hp without dying

Set Details
  • Min defences b/c you want to your reversal to reach max power.
  • This set requires you to predict their attack

Usage Tips
  • Beats everything without a resist to fighting, priority, or a sound move, all 3 of which are not common, but not rare.

Team Options
  • Things that beat gyarados and things that can pull off a ground Z move, as many of hitmonlee’s counters are weak to earth.
  • Need a pory-z counter if you don’t carry close combat.

Strategy Comments
  • This mon is pretty easy to use, though its matchup with aegi may be a little bit rough, as you will have to predict the kings shields
  • Hitmonlee is niche, unlike many other mons like zard x which usually 2-1 a team, Hitmonlee either 3-0s a team or is 0-3’d by one

Other Options
  • band or scarf.

Checks and Counters

Mawile: It can kill you with play rough or sucker punch even if you can kill it with eq and fake out, which you cannot.
Gyarados: Doesn’t mega and beats you with waterfall/eq/crunch spam. Nothing you can do about it, unless you crit both fake out and stone edge, and that only kills non bulky variants
Porygon-Z: This mon usually carries uproar, which goes through sub. Running liechi endure will help with pory allowing you to reversal it, but close combat on sub works too.
Priority: Reversal has no priority, meaning you’re dead if they are able to hit you before you hit them, since you’re at 2 hp.
Protect: If fake out does not hit, due to protect, you don’t get unburden boost since normal gem is not consumed and die.
Anything that resists fighting: effectual 100 BP on reversal doesn’t kill very often.

Hey, not sure if you're new to this, but your analysis is supposed to be in bullet points until you check the second QC check, which is when you write it up in paragraphs.

Overview

  • Niche mon

  • Weak vs stall

  • Liechi endure or normal gem sub

  • unburden+reversal=200 bp fighting move with ~500 speed

  • Is completely countered by aegi, gyarados, and things that resist fighting

Standard Sub-Normal Gem

Hitmonlee @ Normal Gem

Ability: Unburden

EVs: 252 Atk / 204 Def / 52 Spe

Adamant Nature

- Fake Out

- Reversal

- Substitute

- Stone Edge / Toxic / Close Combat / Earthquake

Set Comments

Moves

  • Fake out consumes normal gem and procs unburden

  • Reversal is a move that gains in bp the less hp you have

  • Sub is used to safely get down to 1% for that 200 bp reversal

  • Close combat to beat porygon z

  • Very rarely is toxic alright to use

  • Stone edge or rock slide for pinsir

  • Eq for aegislash

Set Details

  • basic atk-spe spread.

  • +atk b/c you don’t need more speed. -spa because you don’t use it.

Usage Tips

  • Beats everything without a resist to fighting, priority, or a sound move, all 3 of which are uncommon.

  • Most of the skill you’ll have to know is when to pick him, as hitmonlee is niche, unlike many other mons like zard x which usually 2-1 a team, hitmonlee usually only beats 1.

Other Options

Another set to try is Liechi berry endure, with min hp/spedef/def and -spedef nature, to guarantee anything will kill you but that is not particularly recommended, as you will have to predict an attack from the opposing pokemon. Swapping out sub and reversal for coverage options is actually a valid set, but in terms of viability reversal sub is better.

Checks and Counters

Mawile: It can kill you with play rough or sucker punch even if you can kill it with eq and fake out, which you cannot. This mon is just plain impossible to beat with hitmonlee, even if you go groundium z.

Gyarados: Doesn’t mega and beats you with waterfall/e q/crunch spam.

Ok, I'm going to hold off on QCing this because there are a lot of bullet points rather than complete thoughts. When you say "niche mon" or "weak vs stall" explain why and give some context. So please add some details and figurative meat to the analysis first.
